    A real treat.

Thanks for the wishes, and apologies for riding on JDog's coat tails. Alas I was working today, albeit from home, so no pics, so you'll just have to imagine me doing meetings over Zoom with a smart shirt up top and shorts and trainers below to survive the heat and trying to remember to switch the cam off if I had to get up.

  4. Mine still opens bottles beautifully. I hadnt even noticed it had dulled a little.
  5. Welcome aboard. I used to pass through Atlanta for work on my way to Huntsville every now and then.
  6. I've now pinned the thread so it can remain on the front page for a time, so that less frequent visitors to the forum can pay respects
  7. That's really sad to hear, he had been here as long as I can remember. I only found out yesterday he was unwell. RIP Hawkeye

  9. This type of fishing is great fun. I used to get some thumping Ouse chub early season with freelined bread.
  10. A horrific incident, all the worse because he was someone who had been deemed suitable to hold a shotgun. Without wanting to detract at all from the awfulness of the situation, it's probably worth reminding people that forums such as PW are scrutinised by firearms departments and are likely to be even more so now given what has happened. We remove daft comments where we find them but please remember to think before hitting the post button as people have been pulled up in the past for things posted on here and elsewhere, and that's only likely to increase.

    Afghanistan

It makes me feel sick. I lost friends in that war, apparently for nothing, and now we get to watch while the Taleban take Kabul. How long I wonder before that leads to another Caliphate of the sort we saw in Syria and Iraq?
  12. Sadly due to a number of factors covid and non covid related the shoots I've been beating on are no more, so I'm on the look out for any shoots big or small in the Northants/Beds/Cambs borders areas needing beaters this season. I've experience ranging from tiny family days up to big commercial stuff and would be happy with anything in between, provided its Saturdays. Depending on where it is I can probably arrange additional beaters if required.
  13. This is my sister and I sitting on the bonnet of my grandfather's landrover watching the combine in 1979 or 1980. It was one of the old open cab Claas machines, and it fed a stream of old cab over engine Bedford lorries taking the wheat back to the dryer. The tree line in the far distance was an old orchard and the trees had grown through an old prewar pink threshing machine which had been parked long ago. Grandad farmed from before the war right through to the 1990s. I still love watching the harvester at work and the smell especially takes me right back.
  14. S&J tools are good, my preferred brand for the allotment
