  1. I'm expecting the pigeons to fade away any week now they always do once the stubbles have been ploughed but at the min they are still going on disced fields went back to the same area we shot sat and sun last week and they were still here in big numbers spread over 3 fields if was a bit of a dilema where to set up for the best, but settled on a spot it was 1.30pm and didn't take long before birds were in not all decoyed so it a very sporting afternoon all kinds of shots they slowed up dramatically at 5pm and just stopped 15 mins later birds were still going in at the bottom of the field but it wasn't worth packing up and moving they are switching off before 6pm and it will get earlier and earlier as the weeks go by we picked 90 lost a few
  2. If you can get under the flightline anybody with any knowledge would obviously do that but it's not always possible the flightline could be just over the boundary going across a field you don't have permission on so in that case I get as close as possible on my side of the fence or hedge etc and try to pull them over to the field I'm on
  3. I've had a ff5 flapper for 6 years and obviously tried it over that time but I always ended up setting up the rotary course the flappers work but in my opinion the rotary wins hands down had so many days when I couldn't get pigeons to decoy untill I got the rotary going and ended up with 3 figure bags which I know I wouldn't of had without it
  4. This was the case for me on sat it was overcast and not boiling hot I normally shoot about 10 then fetch them in and put them in the shade under a net on hot sunny days so I left the birds as they fell i had about 100 dead birds scattered all over the place I could see at least 4 belly up in the decoys made no difference at all they still came in and they wasn't all young birds either that came in
  5. I honestly don't know but I bet they are getting plenty young birds it's always the same, around here in sept large amounts of young woodies
  6. About half the bag at the min are young birds
  7. Went back yesterday to the same area and farm I shot 141 on sat just a different disced in field with grass and weed growing in it the birds had diverted 500 yards from the stubble to this one only answer to that is they were shot off the stubble the day before ,must of been after the weed and what little grain they could find on it multiple lines coming in but they where landing all over the field a fairly big open one with little cover to set up at so the best option to set up would be an old veg sorting trailer sat on the track that spilts the field it hasn't moved from there for many years despite it being a permanent fixture they were wary of committing to the decoys a lot skirted round the decoys at 60 yards or flared at the last second they have been shot heavily in this area by us in the last few months on a weekly basis so I put it down to that fact still 86 came close enough to shoot so that's thats what we ended up with lost around 10 birds that flew on and dropped over the boundary or to far to get a good mark on them
  8. that's exactly why we went down the steel shot birds route the game dealers we used for donkeys years just stopped taking them
  9. yeah i sell them to bird of prey owners
  10. we haven't had a lot of success on cut maize the odd pigeon and crow shoot never over a 50 bag and i can't ever recall shooting on drilled maize
  11. One area has been head an shoulders above anywhere else we shoot this last few months this it just keeps throwing up good bags and today was no exception, it's a huge block of land separated by ditches most the stubbles have either been disced or ploughed apart from one small 5 acre stubble when I arrived sure enough that's where they was, 3 lines heading to it easy decision where to set up so I did at 1.30pm it was obvious it was going to be a good afternoon,my dad was on a partridge and duck day rang me to see how I was getting on I said 40 on the clicker the next Time he rang to say he was on his way I had 88 by the time he got to the hide I was on 122 so I let him shoot the remainder of the session finished up with 141 on the clicker and bagged up 125
  12. 20th Aug 58 stubble 26th Aug 76 stubble Had a break inbetween a week in majorca witch was very hot then come home early hrs of Wed morning booked two weeks off work so I was gonna make the most of it I was out wed afternoon I thought if I can't find a spot in the shade I won't shoot it would of been unbearable but after 3hrs in a shaded spot we picked 70 I went out again today same field as Wednesday it had been disced in it didn't put the birds off they were flighting in well from different directions so set up same spot as wed 3pm finished with 87 and a crow
  13. Well they do until you come into contact with em 🤣
  14. We know you will be having withdrawal symptoms but leave the seagulls alone 😂
  15. Been waiting for a a block of 3 wheat fields to be cut for weeks and today they had there is a set in stone flight that passes over this block when standing its a funny place though 2 public footpaths run across them one isn't used nearly as much as the other the birds were on the predicted flightlines didn't take long to figure were we needed to set up at a pithole in the middle of one field wind at our back at 2pm testing shooting on the strong wind it was a mixture of decoyed and flighted birds not a great deal missed today 6 right and lefts to boot finished at 5.30pm with 110 picked 101
  16. At the moment there's certain areas and fields that the birds only start going on after 2pm turn up at 1 pm and you hardly see a bird come 2pm you see more and more flighting same case yesterday set up at 3pm shot till 5.30pm and ended up with 60 stark contrast to winter when it's all over by 3pm if your lucky enough to shoot any that time of year
  17. Wasn't looking good at first couldn't find birds in a decent number anywhere a few birds here and there flitting about on the wind spotted a good line in the end they wanted a stubble over the boundary from us though so tried to decoy them on a grass field bordering the stubble it worked to an extent twice as many passed wide either side of us than what came over us but good shooting on the strong wind picked 40 and lost 10 from 3pm to 5pm
