  1. Hiya, I tried similar with the plan of getting rid of the Hmr, I have a very good load for the 50 grain VMAX that I use with the triple and thought about the 40 grain for rabbits & crows etc.. ended up just sticking to the one 50 grain Vmax load and using it for everything
  2. Nice shot, animal was dead before it hit the ground and no meat damage... cant ask for better.
  3. All down to shot placement, I had 11 yesterday out to 40 yards with my .177 rapid.. they all dropped with (some Texas style) heart & lung shots as it was a tad breezy for headshots
  4. Hiya, My new companions Maori & Morvern... New Zealand Huntaway pups
  5. aint the FAC Rapids just great
  6. Ok been chasing this Vixen for a couple of months now, slightest hint of a lamp and she was off at 300 miles an hour :( tried baiting her but she just wasn't interested in anything I left out tonight I did my usual routine of putting some bait out at the usual place I see her with the Spypoint covering it and waiting for it to be set off. As per usual she was a no show so I decided to go for a quick wander. Got to the small hump that lets me see pretty much all the ground in these two fields and had a quick flash of the wee lamp on low power with a amber filter.. bingo caught a glimpse of eyes at about 230 yards directly upwind of me. Got down on the bipod, lined up the Triple on roughly where it was and fired up the lightforce that was mounted on my scope.. there was Foxy bang in the centre of the beam dancing away trying to catch a mouse. As soon as she caught it she stood still for a couple of seconds facing me and that was all I needed to send a 50 grain V-MAX her way which gave the tell-tale thud of it hitting the target I then wandered over to find her, I could see her in the shortish grass no problem and as I got to her I put the torch on her, only to catch the mouse, still alive climbing out her mouth and scurrying away.
  7. We are not all pro independence nutters, some of us have enough brains to realise that it is a very bad idea. The point is we should be as members of the shooting community sticking together and supporting each other.
  8. start baiting one spot as often as you can, preferably every evening, keep the camera on it to see when it gets visited. once you get your visitor, keep baiting for another week or so before setting up an ambush. Put a battery PIR out covering the bait and wait for that to trip line up the rifle, lamp on and bang .. problem sorted ... the fox will be so used to the free food it's preoccupied with it and normally takes longer to react to the lamp going on... works every time for me
  9. Check around the field and see where "it" is entering, grass should be worn down and set up a camera covering that spot.
  10. Hiya, I cant do the lamping either and their are loads of foxes about :( This is possibly true but at least everything is reasonably under control on my ground :)
  11. Hiya, Thanks was back out today but not so many birds about, they were on a barley field that had just been harvested at the other side of the estate, (yet again no one was shooting them) still managed a bag of 18 though I've tried every route possible to help the farmer out more, as far as the estate is concerned the Syndicate are the only ones that get to shoot on their land and unfortunately the farmer rents the Barley fields and a lot more ground (600 acres) from the estate :( He does have his own grazing fields, but the Syndicate kicked off about me using the shotgun on there even though it wasn't their ground causing friction between the farmer and the estate :( so it's not worth the hassle to use anything other than an air rifle and keep hammering them that way. I even tried to join the syndicate but strangely enough I never heard any reply from them.
  12. Hiya, Was really hard going they were moving between one of the barley fields and a small group of trees next to the farm lane, all had to do was park my car so that I had a clear view of some branches then sit there with the window down and pick off any bird that landed :) I would have much rather have been there with the shotty as there was literally hundreds of birds about, but unfortunately the syndicate that's on the estate wont let me use the shotty :( Which is fair enough but bloody annoying when they hardly ever bother doing any pest control for the farmers, as they are only interested in the Ducks n geese that winter on this ground :( As a result the barley gets hammered every year with flocks of 300 to 400 birds in the fields quite common :(
  13. Hiya, Had planned to go out and do some work on the new hide this afternoon before baiting up a few fields for Foxy, stopped off at my first farm and kinda got side-tracked All taken around 30 yards with the sub 12ftlb .177 Rapid... might go and have another bash at them tomorrow
  14. you also have IGamebook which is also very good
  15. mine always go in the bin, or if I'm in the field my pocket...there is no worse sight that empties lying about where they are ejected in the field.. tis the height of laziness :( the "shooter" that did this thought it was quite funny to leave the bush looking like a Christmas tree :(
  16. Hiya, Nice one ... they are bloody addictive when you start on them
  17. Nice one.. you can never hit them hard enough
  18. Hiya, Not posted much on here for a while due to being too busy, so this is as good a time as any to start again I went out to see a new farmer yesterday after work that had called me about some foxing, not really expecting much I decided to drop by on the way to one of my other permission to have a chat with him. As I drove up the lane towards the yard, the place was alive with Woodies and Crows so started thinking to myself .. this could be ok introduced myself to the farmer and started talking about what he was looking for me to do, main issue was foxes as the lambing is due to start in a few days, No problem I said.. how many sheep do you have ? to which he replied oh about 2500 rather stunned I replied how big is the farm.. just over 2000 acres he replied ... it took a hell of a lot of effort not to start in front of him lol. After a long chat he took me for a spin on the ATV to show me where the foxes are usually seen and showed me where three of the boundaries were, stating the other being about 4 miles in that direction, pointing across the moor . I felt a quick change of plans was in order and I arranged to have a quick go at the crows on the ground before having a wander with the lamp n Triple. The first field had around 30 carrions sitting about 200 yards out, I managed a BOGOF deal with the first 50 grain V-MAX nailing 2 Crows with the first shot Strangely enough that upset just about every crow in the area and no more shots were presented for the Triple. As it started to get dark I set up station in a big reasonably flat field bordered by thick wood on three sides, It didn't take much calling before a pair of eyes appeared in the wood but , it wouldn't show for a clear shot :( A move to another field seen this fella wandering around about 150 yards out I called it quits not much later and have arranged to do ta full shift on Friday & Saturday night... I think I'm gonna like this place
  19. Oh the Crow was deffo written off
  20. Slight possibility that it may be dead
  21. I can back up first foxes review, was not impressed with it at all :( his new ns200 is a different kettle of fish though and I was well impressed with it last night .. tis just a pity he cant shoot straight
  22. And feral Pigeon added to the list of quarry please, as I'm fed up typing it in
  23. Hiya, having owned and shot both on Roe, I sold on the .223 and kept the Triple as it was a nicer round to shoot and it did everything I need it to do. Both kill the deer just as dead at 150 yards and providing you do your bit and have decent kit they both put the Bullet on the right spot. For me Ammo is not an issue as I reload for the triple so can use pretty much what I want.
  24. Taken from the .222 v .223 thread .222 50gr Vmax - 23.0gr N133 = 3210fps .223 50gr Vmax - 24.1gr N133 = 3248fps Not much in it at all
