  1. I was looking to swap my SAK moderator for a Wildcat Whisper, more to try something else that was rated than because I needed too and I was told that it could be a four week weight for the moderator so I asked if the gunsmith rated anything else for the HMR and the LEI moderator was mentioned. When they checked the stock they had a 2nd hand one in stock. It was tiny. Only slightly wider than the barrel of the HMR. Anyone any experience of this moderator. By all accounts its very expensive new and came 2nd in the gunmart rating of HMR mods!
  2. Lol. Humane of course!!! Will try a few and those 2 but just confused about weights! What are the killing an accuracy differences in weights or is it simply down to aerodynamics?
  3. I usually shoot .22 rimfire and 17HMR but a recent permission demanded an air rifle so I picked up a BSA Ultra in .177. I just decided I wanted accuracy up to 40 yards without too much thought so this seemed the way to go rather than then harder hitting but loopy .22. Rifle zeroed really well and I'm getting the 30 to 35 shot count claimed by BSA in 2p size groups, which is fine for hunting. Now so far I've only had one shot in anger at a woody and I hit it in the throat area. I got a big puff of feathers but the bird appeared to fall 4 branches and then flew off a few trees away at least before I lost sight of it presumably to die at a later date. This was with RWS Superdomes at 8.3 grams. I packed up then because to be honest I want a clean kill everytime and I felt I just didnt know enough about the balistics to take another go. I'm just looking for some guidance from experienced airgunners regarding pellet selection and weights to use for what vermin. I've got the rifle for Maggie, crows and woodies but might chance my arm at a bunny at some stage. I've ordered a small selection to test for accuracy but after that I'm wondering if all the hollow point, magnum, ultashock etc are just marketing rubbish or my superdomes are not really up to human dispatch. All this not withstanding I should have put the pellet in the woodies head I guess!
  4. Filled a 7 litre bottle at Scuba Doctor in Altrincham this morning. £2.50 for the fill at 300 bar. That seemed amazingly low to me. One local gunsmith was charging me £4 each rifle refill previously! Is that about the going rate?
  5. That is interesting. Laying the patches out like that does tell a good story. I wonder if you had run the bore snake through it, assuming it was a good quality one, half a dozen or a dozen times with some oil or solvent you would have got the same results or very close to it. That would be the real test I guess
  6. Mmmmmm!!! Yeah! Just round the corner!!! Lol. Cheers mate.
  7. Just bought an air rifle and bottle and never thought to ask where I can get the bottle filled. I live In Hale outside of manchester and shoot in and around Northwich. Anyone know who does bottle refills in that area or what I should be searching for on the internet if I'm looking for a place to fill it?
  8. I'm currently selling a Cobra Merlin Gen 1 with eye relief and day scope adaptor. More than you will ever need for 50 yard shooting. I've even got the IR filter for the lamp you are using which I can throw in. A relatively cheap way to give it a go. Sales pitch over thought, I bought this setup a month ago and just cant get to grips with it. It all works perfectly and Ive sat and watched bunnies without them ever knowing I was there but I struggled to get a scope that worked really well with it and then when I did I found my eye straining looking into the scope. Simply it just didnt suit my style of shooting which on my permission is mainly from within the landrover. I think its going to suit someone out on foot better. Its in the For Sale area if you want to take a look. A lot of the guys on here using NV use the same setup and can tell you the pros and cons.
  9. I've just swapped a SAK for a Wildcat Predator. Hardly any difference at all. Probably would have stuck with the SAK had I known. This is with sub sonic ammo. I believe the differences are far greater using different ammo but I pretty much only use subs.
  10. Bumped because of price change Price update - Asked the Gunsmith to take it back and he offerred me £350. If anyone can better that then thats fine. If not will be trading it in at the weekend. £120 discount on new price and its virtually new! I bought this a month ago and I really dont get on with it. Ive got some high end scopes which it doesn't seem to like and it just doesn't suit my style of shooting. So here is a 1 month old NV Moncocular complete with all packaging and original box in mint condition and in fill working order. I paid £470 for it and I'm looking for as close to that as I can because its as new but obviously with a decent discount. No reasonable offers laughed at but I'm looking to get close to £400. Oh yeah and I bought about 10 packs of replacement duraell batteries for it so I can chuck them in as well. http://www.uttings.c...ttachment-1518/ Any questions then just PM me. Oh and if its any use a bought an IR filter for a Tracer mini and one for a Tracer Max. They cost about £20 each but if you use those lamps then you can have them for a tenner.
  11. On the BSAOG site there is a lot of talk about it and how it transforms the gun into somethgim very accurate and very deadly at sub 50 yard ranges for quite a reasonable price!
  12. Yeah pretty much what I've read although the fitter of the reg claims to fix those 70 shots at a constant 11.5 ft/llbs which is OK.
  13. There are regulators available for this air rifle that double the existing shot count but like you say, I guess it would eat air! To be honest I'm just looking for additions to make a stupid variation seem value for money!
  14. It looks like I'm going to have to have my FAC varied just to change an existing moderator for a new one and it seems a big waste unless I ask for something else at the same time. I've got a BSA Ultra PCP air rifle. Was toying with the idea of getting this cranked up to above 12ftlb and getting it onto my FAC. Any thoughts on whether I'm just wasting my time or even if its possible on this kind of air rifle? I'm a bit new to air rifles in general and only got this one for one specific permission that requires it!
  15. I love it when you reply to my posts just so I get to see the bouncy chick!!!!
  16. Some of mine are listed some are not. One has the wrong name on it! It seems pretty stupid to havw do a one for one on a mod but keen to know the law so I dont get it badly wrong!
  17. The last time I swapped a .22 I put in my variation for the new gun but did nothing with the moderator even though I swapped the old one for a new one. They were both SAK's. I now want to swap my HMR SAK for a Wildcat Whisper and I've been told I need to apply for a variation for this. Is that right and have I just been lucky previously with the .22? I assume I just need to show the sale of the SAK moderator and ask for permission for the Wildcat? Do they let you just apply for a 2nd moderator or is it a mod for each gun? Any advice appreciated.
  18. I'll actually have to measure mine. Its the 16" barrel as well but I can tell the difference when I have the .22 in. Its just easier to move around. I bet theres only a nats tadger in it but amazing how a little bit of extra length makes the difference! Think Ive heard the Mrs say that!!
  19. Ive got a fantastic little anschutz .22 (the 1417 ZG) that has a total length of 83cm and its so manouverably, especially when I shoot from the land rover. The thing is I love my Savage HMR. It packs such a punch and I rarely miss with it at any range but its just that bit longer and is awkward to move about with. I had a little look about for a nice short HMR and they dont seem to exist. Is this the case? Perhaos something to do with the powder burn time or something (talking like I understand that statement) or have I just missed a nice short version somewhere?

  21. Havent seen any with mix on my permission but I reckon year on year numbers have halved on my fav permission. Fox numbers seem to be up though!
  22. I've tried a combination of the bipod and a bean bag an now you say it, it was better without the bipod! Another thing to investigate. Live the hogue stock but not st the expense of accurate shooting!
  23. Fantastic reply mate. Thanks It's a particularly nice Ruger with a rubber hogue stock and I did wander why someone would have traded it in. Will go through the steps you described an failing that back to the shop
  24. I think I have some kind of problem with my Ruger .22 setup. Its a 2nd hand gun that has a target barrel. Ive put on a Nikko STerling scope and zeroed it at 25 yards and it gives me an under 1" group as you would expect. I take it out into the field and go straight out to 75 yards (my ideal vermin range) and I seem to be all over the place. I know it coul dbe lots of things but just wondered if any of the old hands can tell me the sequence they would logically check? I havent ruled out that the barrel isn't fitted correctly and it needs to go back. Just strange its fine at 25 yards! Remove and refit scope and rail making sure all is tight, rezero at 25 yards and this time perhaps at 25 first before pushing out to 75. Anything else?
