  7. Repeated crop damage bills from the tenant farmers on the land over which we now shoot saw off the last shoot. They used to put down over 7000 pheasants each year on a 2500 acre estate. The last claim was for 7k which was settled at 3k.
  8. I rear about 200 each year and have always used chick crumbs but also feed them eggs to increase the protein as chick crumbs are lower than game bird crumbs
  9. You will need to feed last years wheat as fresh wheat is too strong for digestive system and will go straight thru them
  10. It's no wind up. The cock pheasant does have some black fleck markings on its breast but it is definitely a pheasant with no comb and the hens are also pheasants. The poult - chick is about the the same size as the other poults and they are 6 weeks old it's just a slightly different shape. . I wandering if a Sussex had been running with pheasants when I first bought the eggs three years ago and this is a throw back as I've never had anything like this over the past two seasons and I've hatched about 70 white pheasants from the same birds.
  11. Sorry i didn't make it clear. I over winter breeding stock and all eggs which I incubate have been collected from my own stock, i only rear pheasants and have no other fowl.
  12. I rear a few hundred pheasants including white ones for our shoot each year. One of the white ones this year is completely different from all the others I have every reared. Its stance and the way it walks and lack tail feathers make it imore like a chicken. A bit of a throw back
  13. In test until may 2015. Only filled up once since new. PCP gun sold as moved onto HMR. Comes complete with MDE Charging hose. £100.
  14. I have a mix of unrelated white, reeves, melanistic and ring neck cock and hens pheasants which i hatched in july 2013. Will they be fertile in their first season?
  15. Looking to buy a bitfitter and bits for 3 week old+ pheasants. Looking at sizes, the 'B' seems the one but, you can get 'soft' or 'standard' bits. Any advice on which is better. thanks
  16. They are on crumbs; I changed the light to a red bulb this afternoon so I will see how things go. Thanks for feedback
  17. I have hatched 21 white pheasants which are now 3 days old. They are in a brooder with chopped paper as a floor covering with a large electric hen for heat and a 15w low energy bulb for light. They are not over crowded as the brooder is 1m by 1.5m however, they have started to feather peck already. Should I reduce brightness of the light or change the colour to red? Also is 3 weeks about the earliest to bit them? Any help comments appreciated.
  18. Winchester SX3. Great gun. No loss of camo. You won't be disappointed if you buy one. Excellent value for money
  19. Got call at 10.30 from farmer that there were 500+ pigeons on rape. He said 'i bet you don't fancy having a go at them in this weather, I'll have to get the bangers out and defrost gas guns if not' (heavy snow 4-6" covering and howling wind blowing snow horizontal). I said i'd there within the hour. Got to the fields nothing on the ground or in the air. Put one in the air and 200+ moved out of trees lining the fields. Wouldn't decoy at all although did drop onto fields every 1/2 hour or so, but not near me! Put a few shots in the air to get them moving. Bird that got anywhere near were fast having strong wind behind them. Spent 2.5hrs pinned against a hedgerow. Birds then disappeared. Ended up with 3 pigeons and 1 crow. Not the best day out but farmer happy I'd kept them off even for a short while.
  20. We used to have one attached to a large cable spool which, at the beginning of the drive, someone would pop down the ryde and pull it out, then once the drive had finished it would be rolled back onto the spool. It worked well.
