  3. so i thought i might sit in the hedge one night with my pigeon hide set up waiting for rabbits to imerge. sure enough rabbits started comin out of the hedge one by one. i picked a few off with my air rifle for the quiet factor and i had my shot gun with me for back up! all was quite when this fox started to make it's way towards an opening in the hedge no 10 meters from me. i have never squelled for a fox befor but off i went squelling away and the fox started bounding towards me. i grabbed my shotgun trying to be quiet and keep the squelling going! i could not beleive how much this fox wanted in. it got within 10ft of me i stood up and bang! nailed it! i had full choke's in for the rabbits so the fox got a facefull.
  4. hatsan escourt mate. cheap and reliable.
  5. i admit i do love the 17hmr. but still there is nothing quite like having a bit of holdover! with my air rifle! holdover makes me feel a little like i know what i'm doin, u know? if u try to explain the tridgectory of bullets to someone who has never picked up a gun, it's amazing to think what we know and what we can do! and if u hit that bunny that is out of range with a 4" holdover! i know i am extra happy with the shot! because it is not 50/50 to the gun and the shooter! it's more like 70/30! and i like this! i will get a .22 and a .17! this way i will cover everythin and not be dissapointed with not getting one or the other!

  9. hello again. Since writing my last topic i have been out yet again with the same .17hmr rifle :clapper: . it was a different night. we started off bashin a few clayes with a silver pigeon (lovely gun), then headed out for the rabbits. i started drivin and me mate nick had the first shot with success. head shot at 97yrs :boxing: this one i would later skin and freez. no more in that field so we headed to the next. i jumped on the back of the wagon. spotted my first rabbit. missed!!! damn it!!!! :censored: so moved on! i missed the next two rabbit's!!! not possible!!! i'm better than that. :wallbash: . we set a target up on the root level of the nearest tree! prob around 60yrds i would guess. we soon realised that the rifle had fallen in the back of the truck from an upright position. the sights were around 12" out  ! sorted! back in buisness!! nailed em all from there on in :toast: . i even got so confident i aimed for a couple of heads! nailed em :boxing: . i picked up the head shots for food and leavin the mangled ones for the foxes as i am not allowed to shoot the foxes on this particular land bbeause the owner likes to sort the foxes himself. hear are the head shots! all skinned and ready for the pan now!! num num!!! :clapper: excellent!!! i'm gettin one for sure! with the the range this rifle has it would serve me really well in the future. but i also think i will put down for a .22 also as it would be nice in some area's to be a little quieter! notice the top rabbit's eye hanging out! great shooting!!!

  13. i'm not sure how to delete this topic. so can someone like a administraitor delete it for me??
  14. i have recently gained over 1200 acres of land for pigeon and rabbit control. witch is amazing. what i did not expect was a trip out last night with the farm chargehand with his rifle. i think it was a .17 hmr is it\? i'm not sure. this was my first time out with a rifle. i have fired one befor and i am well aware of how far they can go. but JESUS!!! i have really been missing out. i got the impression this is a small rifle and by the look of the bullets it was. after a quick target practise to get to grips we were off in the truck for what seemed like miles. great to have so much land. in the first field within ten minutes i have already beaten my best. nailed at least ten!!! i think i managed to pull off a shot at around 130 yrds. i've had alot of practise with my air rifle befor but this thing was amazing. i have to get a fac now! that is it i have the bug! here are a couple just befor i skin them! notice the blood on hand from the previously skinned rabbits. have just ate them around ten mins ago. lovely stuff!! o and we ended on around 25 i think. i was so exited i lost count... ha ha

  16. hello mate sorry about friday! **** hath hitteth the faneth mate! havent split yet but i fear it is on the cards! i spent the weekend at me mothers as the break would do us good! just have to wait and c what happens a. i'd sure like to find out exactly what ft/lb me gun is! we will have to re-orgonise.
  17. i disagree, i have shot rabbits in the neck and shoulders. they drop quick enough! but i will agree on the fact you really have to practise! practise practise! get your shooting spot on! there is nothin worse than clipping a rabbit in the hind legs and listening to the squeel as u run towards it! we have all done it! anyone who says they havent is either telling fibs or has not had many shots at rabbit's.
  18. i read about a court case in the paper not long ago about a bloke who shot a racer pigeon with a ring on it's foot. he owned up to it! rang the number on the tag! fair play to the bloke. hands up he knew he had done wrong. what he did not know was that the person who owned the bird that he shot would from there on try to persue a case in court about this insident. in the end. the bloke who shot the pigeon , sorry "racer pigeon" walked completely free of charge! why?? i hear u ask. because the pigeon was a pest!!! the bloke with the gun was shooting over CROPS!! with a shotgun and that 100 yards is out of range for a gun of this type. upon veiwing the site. charges were dropped as there where no houses for 1.5km.
  19. .50 cal at point blank on a dear perhaps???
  20. i agree with westcountryman, pick a cartridge and stick with it! only on occassion should you change- say for foxes or clays. i shoot rabbits pigeions rooks with a 6-1/2 shot. makes rabbits and pigeons edible. also i reframe from long shot's as i cannot stand watching a rabbit crawling back to the hedge with two feet! i have seen it once or twice! it's horrible. the feeling of a clean kill is amazing but we all have to take the bad with the good. when u see that a few times. u will know when a rabbit is out of range.
  21. Adam, I started my shooting life with a Gamo Whisper X and it got me into the sport sufficiently for me to now have my FAC and SGC. Nice guns, have you had the trigger sorted, that was the only bit about it I couldn't get on with. hi, i have not had a problem with the trigger so far! why?? what went wrong with your's? it's alot of fun for me. as i am a carpenter & general builder i talk to customers about what i do and often they have problems with pest's like squirrels on the strawbery's and jackdaws in the chimneys!. air rifles are amazing guns for built up area pest control. now i have owned a gamo i would never rule one out! the only thing i dont know about them is how they hold up to the test of time! u know--what will go wrong with it in the future a?? i'm sorry i dont know what ft/lb it is? i dont know how to test it either?? i think it will all lead to getting a fac because i like walkin about for rabbits, so it makes sense to get a .22 bullet rifle. but for now i'm happy with my air rifle and shotgun licence.
