    Evening everyone.
Just to make sure are these lead, they look that they could be a very good load in the correct area.

Definitely lead and would be English 3's . Shot hundreds of them along with the Winchester Super Double X with fantastic results against Geese before the Lead ban  👍

I used to use a Winchester model 23 waterfowl m/c eventually sold it on as it had a slight gap in the wood to metal by the trigger guard that annoyed me. I now have an AYA number 3 magnum and an old beretta xtrema. Next year should see me out a bit more. Best of luck for the rest of the season 👍

Yes i had a Winchester 23 supposed to be 1/4 and 1/2 choke but kept fluttering Geese and Duck down with the 1/4 choke got it checked out it was True cylinder so moved it on.

I to wish you the very best when you get yourself out 👍

Last time I used lead on geese it was 1 5/8 oz Eley number 3s in the right barrel and 1 7/8 oz Winchester XXs number 2s in the left barrel. I don’t know what the modern equivalent would be as I still have a few left and haven’t had to replace any.

👍👍 Man of my own heart Aya no 1/4 choke Eley 1-5/8oz 3's 1/2 choke Winchester 1-7/8 4's ( our 3's) but like yourself plenty of the 2's .

And now same choke's and mainly Steel 3's and 2's 😊

That’s me told then, silly me for trying to stimulate the fowling page here!

    Thats this shooter signing out….

Can't speak for others but in no way was my reply a Dig at yourself for posting your excellent results in fact it was the opposite. It was refreshing to see you Threads and i personally enjoy/enjoyed reading yours. I'm sure you would agree in general us Wildflowers are a lonely secretive bunch and when we do post ( as you done) we give nothing away. 👍👍

This was a touch and go type of moon flight. We wanted to have a shot under the moon before Xmas, the cloud was thick but it was to thin as the night went on and there was a fresh breeze blowing so we thought stuff it we will go.

It was very quiet as we walked out on the estuary but we heard enough to give it a few hours. In all honesty it was fairly boring with not much happening until well after 11pm. With the tide not far from the full the geese began to move and we got some sport. The most notable thing from the flight was my friend shooting his last goose at 11.58. Just minutes before we got in to Sunday and no shooting.

So 2 geese each 3 pinks and a grey. Special mention to the silent hero my lab Ghillie.

    my contribution

Excellent results well done 👍 Just my opinion but for myself Moon Flights are the very best sport to be had . Have a good Christmas and hopefully a few more moon flights over the Christmas period

Thank you for the reply’s, that’s the only reason I’m a bit cautious on my own is for not knowing the tides. I think I’ll call over and have a sit and watch walk the ground and figure a few things out like you said by myself.
    thanks!

If you let me know when you are thinking of going I'll check tides and weather for you and point you in a safe easy direction for you to have a flight. Well done for asking questions rather than going blind and getting in trouble. 👍

  8. As Pushandpull. Contact one of the club official members who would sort you someone to guide take you out. Failing that do a flight off a gradgebank ( as you are not allowed to shoot from the seawall ) then explore the area after flight is over. Don't ever cross a creek you can't step over be very aware of tides . Gate 4 and 5 offer very easy access onto the marsh but be very aware those two areas will flood behind you on decent tides ( not for the inexperienced wildfowler ) . IMHO you are far better learning the marsh yourself than being guided because a few years ago ( not saying you would do this) i took a member out who would have had a excellent flight had he shot well. The very next i noticed two lights up down across and back in the marsh . Although not a big tide where these two was walking about i knew they would be safe but stuck on the marsh. After my successful flight I walked within 20 yards of guess who Yep the novice I'd taken out the previous morning now with his mate. After I'd given them a good talking to i guided them to a point with care, chestwaders and plenty nerve you could wader this creek to my side  and just to make a point i made them wade two more Creeks wet absolutely covered in mud back at the vehicle the one I'd guided the morning before admitted he was desperate to get at the Geese and thought he knew enough after one flight oh really First he had walked right instead of left. Then crossed creeks he could not step over got lost and was walking around in circles. Had he taken notice of the previous morning walk left etc you don't even step over a creek. No life is worth a Goose or Duck respect the tides weather and marsh at all times.

  9. Evening Mark good to see and hear you are okay after your fall 👍 Well done getting a Pink well deserved 🤝 I myself had not one but two incidents (1) Crossing a wooden none sided bridge over a very large creek thankfully only my ego was dented i to was rewarded by shooting a Pink.

    (2) cut my middle finger with a Stanley Carpet Blade now that did and still does smart . Shot at a Pink 6 days later hurt like I'd cut it again and started bleeding. 😭 But as us hardened Wildfowler' s do carry on chasing them Geese. Have a good Christmas keep knocking em down 👍

I was thinking , have the time come where some of the wintering geese end up staying here and possibly breed , we have now got all sorts of birds that at one time would had been a rairity and would never have dreamt that one day they would be breeding in the area , we no longer give the Egret a look when they jump up from the reed beds , when the Little Egret first arrived it brought bird watchers from all points of the compass , now we have the Little Egret , Great White Egret and now the Cattle Egret , same with the Cranes and this year we had the Bee Eating birds breed here for the first time .

This so called global climate is here to stay and the sea is aloso getting warmer with Whales , Dolhfins and Sharks being seen very close to shore all the year round .

Strange times we are living in   MM

I agree about some of the bird's and mammals in fact for two days till they was rescued a adult with calf Dolphin was in the Ouse River at Earith 3-4 miles from where i live. Most geese eg Barnacle Snow Egyptian which breed in the wild now are from Stately Homes the odd Pink White Front are reported from collections. Before I'd ever shot a September Pink and was keen do so i spent many hours and miles trying to achieve my ambition ( I refused to go to Scotland) finally i shot my first and second ( R&L) on September 5th several years ago. Now I leave them alone after i successfully helped Conor and a few friends achieve this ambition. A good number of Pinks migrate straight from Iceland to Lincolnshire and various Norfolk winter haunts. I'd bet strong money within 3-4 days those 43 Pink will be in deep Norfolk and each day the migration will pickup pace. Obviously these are my personal findings and opinions of chasing Geese for over 50years all over the British Isles. Good luck to one and all chasing Geese this just remember in your excitement get them in range keep calm shoot for the Sooty Head 👍

  11. Received a phone call last night from a landowner that i have permission to shoot. Geese are back. 43 in total feeding on stubble. Due to hot weather and causing no damage they are safe from me well until last week of September

Sadly  with Tss now being used ,boasting of the 70 -80 yard goose is a common occurrence not sure if its worse than it was but it seems so to me  .

In my opinion worse. Having used a 20 for best part of 50 years on geese it's not the type of shot or bore it's the idiots spraying it around which really boils my pee

Hi  l loaded cartridges in 8gauge itm with the cardboard wads from Ian Charton about 15 years ago for a friend. The power l used was AO and blue dot and CSBO . I have data for hevi shot with cardboard wads but with A-381 l don’t think it’s available now. You can have the data if it’s any good for you. I only loaded bismuth in the 28 gauge.

Gas Seal any date would be very good thank you.

Andy H thank you downloaded but won't open

Excellent Simon well done 👍 myself and Conor spot with Thermal but take the shot with NV. So many times I've thought get a thermal scope but as yet held back one do to price the other being able to 100% ID and place a accurate shot at range when needed. Must admit seeing your video it did/does look a 250 yrd shot would be safe id and accurate shot ,🤔
