Have used 45 gallon drums with letter box openings x3 in the sides, about 3" from the bottom, on a couple of concrete blocks, we fed barley and wheat, they worked well. Placed them about 6 feet from the edge, on a bank that gave easy access, and return to water.

Spotted an Albino/pure white Swallow today amongst a group of ten or so 'normal' swallows. A first for me, and brilliant to watch it hawking insects with its fellow Swallows. Have seen Albino's/white birds in Pheasant, Blackbird, Woodpigeon, Jackdaw, Magpie and also pied birds in Carrion Crow and Starling but todays sighting was by far the best as regards unusuality.

It's a Collared Pratincole, a scarce summer vagrant from Southern Europe and North Africa.

Two adult Cuckoo's satellite tagged in May over in Ireland, have started their ' Autumn ' migration south. This is the first year Irish Cuckoo's have been tagged (BTO project, four Cuckoos tagged), to determine their migration route.

Used to attend meets up on the Cotswolds many moons ago, a time when I owned racing Greyhounds as well. Most Hares escaped through portholes built into the cotswold stone walls, This was all under Coursing club rules, and a good spectacle, I would say most Hares escaped, they knew the ground better than their persuers.

Its a lovely song isn't it, Highnam woods just west of Gloucester has breeding Nightingales, Three singing Nightingales were reported there yesterday (7/5/23). White stork reported over WWT Slimbridge yesterday (7/5/23), and later over Frampton.

A Hawfinch in a garden in Nailsworth (Nr Stroud), yesterday. 21/4/23, A Swift and five yellow wagtail at Frampton as well.

A singing Nightingale in Highnam Woods, Nr Gloucester yesterday (16/4/23). Three Ring Ouzel on Cleeve hill, one Ring Ouzel on Stinchcombe golf course (16/4/23). A Grasshopper Warbler in Frampton reed beds (16/4/23).

A Cuckoo, and two Pied Flycatchers reported in the Forest of Dean yesterday (9/4/23).

Osprey recorded from Hampshire To Northumberland ( 4/5 County Sightings ), on their return to breeding sites, over the last few days.
