  1. I bought one in about 1995. I think it was a Pinewood make. I took it to try out one Saturday morning and set up on the edge of a massive field of rape. Didn’t set a hide up or put any other decoys out but got down out of sight in a dyke. I was absolutely amazed as pigeons started to come for it from what seemed miles away. I only stayed for about an hour and shot 11 but I thought I’ve cracked it! Anyway next time out with a proper set up I hardly got a shot. Over the years it was a very useful tool but when it didn’t work I would bring it in and try something else One thing I did learn that on bright days the arms could catch the sun and put the birds off - I solved that by wrapping them in cammo tape.
  2. For ***** sake stop moaning everyone. Nothing is going to work efficiently or properly in case you haven’t heard there is a corona virus pandemic and key people even the PM have gone down with it. Probably the biggest national emergency in our lifetimes! We all have to pull together and do the best we can.
  3. Like Hamster I shot there in the 90’s. I suspect things were less developed in 1996 than they are now. I took my own shot gun over but hit a problem when Hertz would not let me have the hire car I’d ordered and paid for in the U.K. because I did’t have my driving license even though they had seen it in the U.K. Until I got things sorted out I hired a scooter from one of the local companies and have fond memories of trying to find Paphos shooting ground with a gun strapped to it and in those days it seemed like a mountain track route off the main road to the ground. I did have some very enjoyable and very cheap Fitasc sporting shooting there though at the equivalent to £2.50 for a round of 25. The locals and owner were very friendly even though they didn’t speak much English and my Greek is non existent. I shot there several times during my two week stay in Cyprus and on the day before we left the ground owner offered to take me game shooting with them. I couldn’t make it as we were going back but I thought how kind of them especially as their game shooting season was very restricted at the time.
  4. Good advice, I shoot that exact combination of fixed chokes using 9s and don’t have any problems with close targets.
  5. Obviously there are different levels of “shoots” from the small walk round to the large commercial driven shoots but I think the main thing is that beaters and pickers up are treated with respect and not taken advantage of. A nice friendly day with like minded folk is one thing but what causes resentment in my book is when beaters are looked on as glorified serfs. Also on some commercial shoots the massive anomaly on what is charged at the guns end and what is paid to the beaters. Beaters and pickers up should not be subsidising the guns/shoot owners.
  6. Have used Legia spray for shotgun cleaning for years but this latest can is leaving a brown residue on the metalwork around the breech and ejectors. Anyone come across this or throw any light on it?
  7. Friend of mine has just gone through the same experience after many years of shooting game. He started on clays with his 28” Browning 725 game gun but has improved his sporting clays scores by going to a second hand 32” Miroku MK38 trap gun.
  8. The Hull ones are definitely not comp x but in my opinion are excellent cartridges. His new express pros are also excellent in that to me they have minimal recoil and give really good “kills”. I consider both good value and in fact now use the pros for all my clay shooting, competition and practice. Previously I was mainly using the more expensive Fiocchi Officials but have not noticed a decline in my score, if anything they have improved marginally.
  9. Remoaners throwing all the **** they can - don’t they realise it’s doing them more harm than good!
  10. Try Sporting Targets in Bedfordshire.
  11. If you go, don’t take a dog with you. They are definitely not dog friendly.
  12. Yes I believe it can. I have gone through a similar process as yourself and as you have demonstrated different chokes weigh differently. Even the same choke type eg. a Beretta factory optima 3/4 will weigh heavier than a cyl. I’ve experimented with various different makes/ weights of chokes in my DT 10 and am convinced that it can affect the handling of the gun. Funny thing is like you went back to the original factory cokes!
  13. Much prefer the boxy shape to the new disco, proportions look right!
  14. They have been protected since at least the 1980s. Seems their biggest losses come from shooting during migration in Spain and France. The ones that do make it have to contend with increased numbers of flying predators in the UK. Have not seen one for about 10 years in our part of S.Lincs.
  15. Cut some strips of white plastic and tie them onto a string washing line style and criss-cross the pen with them. Like sewelling!

Aren’t all politicians! Look at the state they have got the Country in with their indecision! If we need nurses and the police to have a university degree then it’s about time politicians had some requisite formal qualification to run the Country!
  17. An old dog trainer once told me if your dog runs off, leave an item of clothing with your scent on where you last saw it and go back half an hour or so later and the dog will be sitting by the clothing. Haven’t used this myself but met a professional dog walker who had lost an alsation in the 600 acre wood we were in. Told her to leave something and come back later. Found out she left a blanket with a note giving her number. Two hours later someone rang her saying the dog was sitting on the blanket!
  18. They put on great targets but do not do food, although you can get hot and cold drinks from a machine.

    Swifts

I too went for a walk in between rain showers today near my home in S. Lincs. The footpath took me around the edge and though the middle of two massive fields of peas which must have amounted to over a hundred acres. I was delighted to see hundreds of swifts and martins working the whole area, the most I’ve seen of both in years. I was surprised there were no swallows amongst them. Also interesting although I put 50 or 60 pigeon off the fields today there has hardly been any on them since they were drilled.
  20. Came across a full grown badger which I presumed was a road kill at the side of our country lane. Next morning something had been eating it and had dragged it a good twenty yards into the wide verge, a lot of the fur had been ripped off and chunks taken out of it. Anyway the next morning the whole thing had been taken off. It’s quite remote where we are so it it very unlikely another human being would have been involved. Could it have been a fox? I would have thought a badger would have been too heavy for it!
  21. Many thanks for all your comments, I’ve got a few options to think about.
  22. Sorry I’ve given the wrong impression, I’ve been clay shooting for nearly 40 years and have had a flinch on and off for more than 30. I’ve owned most makes of gun Beretta, Browning, Miroku, Benelli, Krieghoff, Caesar Guerini, Renata Gamba, and Perazzi. I’ve had guns properly fitted and even seen a sports psychologist but although lessened with proper fit and smooth cartridges has never gone away whatever gun I shoot with. Currently shooting a Perazzi MX8 Sporter with montecarlo stock, 32” , weight 8lb 10ozs I’m an A class sporting shooter and on a typical 100 bird shoot I can have on average 3 flinches, sometimes it costs me the target sometimes not, I can sometimes still get it at extreme range. Sometimes I can have 5/6 or more sometime none at all. Most frustrating! So when I re came across Pro Ones I know a good cartridge when I shoot it but put off by the price so hence the original question is there anything out there which is a direct alternative at a better price?
  23. Should have said that particular cartridge from a range of several after I outlined my requirements. That’s what I like about these forums there’s always one smart ****! 😃
  24. No but was talking to the chap from Malmo guns the importer at a the Cheddite championships on Monday he was recommending them and they certainly look the part. Pricey though?
  25. Yes I do like Officials and that is what I have been shooting for competition the past few years but just felt the pro ones were softer. I know it’s a bit subjective. I too buy from Cecil’s but with the new increase from Fiocchi they are not far off the Pro ones price now. Might take another look at RC2s as mentioned by cookoff013 have shot them in the past and they are a good shell.
