    cz rifles

thanks for the replys,at the moment i think i will probably go for the american as all of my shooting is done on foot, and after looking into it further the zeiss 3-9x50 with mounts and flip up covers as it will still work out alot cheaper than buying a 3-12x50 over here CHEERS

  9. hello all, after having had a couple of topics on scopes and rifles i had more or less made my mind up on what i wanted, but after a conversation with a friend of mine i may have been totally wrong.I was going to get a anschutz 1517 with a zeiss 3-9x50 scope, but after talking to him he said i would be better off getting a CZ452 AMERICAN and instead of importing the scope from america which will incur taxes etc get a zeiss 3-12x50 over here thus saving money on the rifle but getting a better scope, whilst still saving a few bob.Having read reviews on the cz the only real problem seems to be the trigger which can be modified for about a tenner.Any help would be appreciated also which one would be the better choice in cz the varmint with heavy barrel or the american which is reported on one forum as prone to overheating if out all day bunnying. anschutz

thanks,if the zeiss is parallex free at 100 yds and im shooting say 150yds do i not need a/o to focus in on the target or am i totally wrong,i do fancy the zeiss more than the leopold but it will be the 3-9x50 due to the price but am unsure of the above(parrallex,-a/o etc)

    anschutz

thanks for all the replys everybody, some difference of opinion, but just to let you know what i have found out.Phoned frank dyke tonight and this is roughly what he told me.anschutz were making 14" barrels for the.22 and somehow altered the bore setting but not the length setting of the barrel, therefor 100 .17hmr barrels were made, when they were tested it was found that the accuracy was NOT AS GOOD and it was alot LOUDER than the 18" barrels,it was decided allegidley not to make the barrels for the english market but for some other foreign market.Dykes have not imported them for about a year now and any that you can get over here are what he called grey imports.Hope this settles the matter a bit,as i think what everybody has said was right somewhere along the line.Just to put another cat amongst the pigeons what scope would everybody recomend for the HMR ,was going to geta buushnell 2.5-16x50 but was told didn t need a/o or such a high mag,so then looked at zeiss 3-12x50 but price put me off, then looked at zeiss 3-9x50(imported),still thinking about that one or a leopold.Plus do i need a/o on the scope or not.Any help would be appreciated thanks

    anschutz

I am thinking of buying an anschutz 1517 .17hmr and fancy it with short barrel, they do one with 14"barrel but i have heard the accuracy on these barrels is a bit ify,but my local gunsmith says the oposite (dont know if he s just trying to sell me one).Anyone got one of these or had any experience with them cheers
  15. would i be correct in thinking the 22 is accurate from 0to75yds without any bullet drop in that distance, and the hmr the same out to 150ish.Will probably go for a less mag scope but am still unsure about gun as i will probably only get one or other at the moment and dont want to make an expensive mistake ,just trying to get as much info as poss
  16. thanks for the help, what kind of accurate distance could i expect from both rifles
  17. hi all,new to forum and after some advice.I am going to apply for my FAC after air gunning for some years on and off,i have been looking around and had decided on a anschutz .22 1417 with bushnell 2.5-16x50 scope and sak mod.But after some thought and more research am in two minds on getting an anscutz 1517, 17hmr with bushnell 6-24x50 scope and sak mod as there are alot of open fields with very little cover on my shoot with distances of 100yds plus, but at the same time there are distances where i can get a shot at 15yds.Any advice on choice of gun and scope would be very much appreciated, also i will be selling my air gun a weirauch hw 100,hawke map 6 scope and 1 piece mount all 5 months old if anybody interested when i get fac which will probably be nearer xmas, sorry for prattlig on so much
