  1. Had it done a couple of years ago, not great but not too bad.

When the male nurse finished he said "You can have a tea or a coffee and a biscuit now"

I said "To be honest, after that I was expecting an engagement ring"  :)

  2. Althiough the NRA, BDS and many others offer various courses there is no officially recognised "Reloader Certification"

It should it not affect being issued an SCC, reloading is not part of the requirements.

As far as shooting on MoD ranges, the RCO has to be satisfied that all ammunition used falls withing the range limits, for home/reloads you may/should be asked to provide proof of your ammunitions load data including velocity and muzzle energy before being allowed to shoot it.

  3. I read the Basc report.

    Durham's figures are way off.

From what I've been told there are 2 girls and a manager in the office, at least one of them only works 2 days a week.  There's one full time FEO and another who is retiring.

Renewals are listed at 88 days, my club members are reporting times of 6 to 9 months, my own submitted at the end of 2020 took 7 months.

  4. Sent my daughters off for renewal + change of name, went 1st class recorded on the 20th arrived the next day.

Post Office tried to get me to "upgrade" to Special Delivery as apparently 1st class recorded could get lost!!

  5. Well done Mel :)

Getting special needs or disabled young people and adults involved with sporting or any other type of social gatherings can be very benificial to their development.

My youngest son (now 30) has Autism, his mum walked out just after he was diagnosed 16 years ago.  His social life then was almost non-existent.

I returned to shooting in 2006 and took him along, he's been a member of three clubs now for 15 years.  While we're at the range or at the indoor club he interacts and speaks to everyone there, I think he might know more of the members than I do!.

Without that social interaction over the years I'm sure he wouldn't be at the place (developmentaly) that he is now.

  6. I wish that one of the shooting organisations would stand up for once and say that this was not a result of poor or insufficient licensing/guidance.

Like the previous Horden shootings here in Durham it was a failure of the licensing department to enforce the current guidance correctly.

He should never have had his firearms returned, they were given plenty of evidence of his unsuitability, even his own family told them he was unfit and were ignored.

  7. Quick update. Had a phone call on Wednesday checking a few things like any changes to medication, security etc. Could I verify how many shotguns and firearms I had, could I check the serial number of one rifle as the seller I bought it from had it incorrectly listed on his FAC and never noticed!.

So at just over 6 months from applying (and 5 weeks after they expired) my certificates arived this morning, and there was no request for a doctors letter.

Had a response to my chaser, they are currently processing apps from end of Nov, mine was start of December, so hopefully only a week or so till some progress!

Just had a chat with one of my club members, he rang them yesterday and was told they were just starting on those from the beginning of November!

So God only knows what they're actually doing!.

  9. Depends on the capacity of the tumbler, my 7 litre Frankford Arsenal uses 5lbs as did the Thumblers B (Rebel 17 Extreme) I had before it.

Quite a few of the usual online firearms dealers sell them or Amazon have the STM or Lyman ones now and again.

Don't buy from CousinsUK, they advertised 6mm (which is ideal) but sent me 10mm which were useless.  As they are a "business to business" seller they wouldn't pay return postage even though they admitted describing them incorrectly on their web site!.

One good splash of washing up liquid and 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid granules (off Ebay).  Despite what you may be told you don't need any more than that, all they do is soften the water to enable the washing up liquid to work better.

  10. Don't hold your breath :)

Mine is just a renewal, given what other members of my club have experienced I'm not expecting it within the 8 week extension but to run into having to get a section 7 extension as well.  So probaly lucky to see it before September.

They visited me at the end of last year, that was for a very simple change of name on the club FAC I submitted in the April when I became club secretary, even that took over 6 months!.

  11. Durham are taking 9+ months for renewals and blaming Covid.

Strange how the two other local forces (Northumbria and Cleveland) can still manage in 2-4 weeks.

Probably nothing at all to do with Durham having been in the worst 3 performing licensing departments for the last 2-3 years and the firearms depatment with the highest fall in performance.  Employing a lot of young barely or untrained staff who have a high turnover due to the low pay certainly isn't helping either.

My own certs run out at midnight tonight.  I sent in the renewal 1st December so 5 months early, I've already had the "we are giving you an 8 week extnsion" letter but realistically there's very little chance of getting them sorted by then.
