  1. Have a look at Miroku Moocher's work ...he's a member on here & it looks top notch to me. ched Images
  2. I've been thinking about a press for a while too. Plastic comes to my mind..... large diameter thick walled pipe for the "cylinder" (drainage or gas mains etc), with a "piston" pressing plate (10mm foamex from a sign makers, glued 3 or 4 thickness together to form a GOOD fit inside the body), reinforced with timber that doesn't come into too much contact with the apple pulp (maybe have to buy a piece of hardwood for a "con rod"). The con rod would be attached to a bottle or hi-lift jack jack which could be attached to a STRONG metal or timber frame, as big forces will be needed to press the chopped fruit. The juices could be collected in a plastic drum. There are loads of ideas of designs & materials on u tube, but I keep thinking about the materials I have to hand. Good luck with your design.
  3. Thanks for that. I will follow the recipie by the letter tomorrow .

    My Girl 2

I've been listening to the Radio 2 gig tonight & hearing this tune for a few days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cTYkHtys73c What are your hopes of the forthcoming new album...will it be as good as The Liberty of Norton Folgate?
  8. I get ours from a local Asain market... £1.09 for a 10Lb sack, or £3.95 for a 40Lb. They keep well too
  9. Have a look here http://www.gundoggear.co.uk/dog-vests--coats-29-c.asp I use the 3mm Avery 3mm dog parka for my lab when really cold on the marsh. They are top people to deal with too. PS I have just noticed that they are doing a deal on combined jack Pyke neoprene vests with a quilted vest for after working.
  10. It's good isn't it! Yours is very similar to the recipe I posted some time ago, but I use a lazy way of setting it by adding 3 oz (85 mls) of liquid pectin after 10 mins of simmering, then boil hard for 2 mins & Bobs your Uncle....perfectly set every time. I tend to have this on & in everything.
  11. If you go, you will find it's an agricultural show like they used to be... not a car boot sale or a show for townies. Last year there were a few traders catering for country sportsmen, a country sports tent (CLA, hunting, wildfowling etc). All in all, we think it is a good day out in the company of like minded country folk. Hope you enjoy it.
  12. I would be suprised if a spaniel got too cold in a beating line, even during a cold Black Country winter. Yes, you may see him shiver now & again when he is wet & in between drives, but is this excitement to get going again or a healthy body doing it's job. If you too, like me, get worried about a dog getting cold after a days working (or even during a long break at lunch time), then I recommend a fleece type waistcoat. I use an Equifleece jumper for my cocker, and after having the pi** taken out of me for putting it on him at first, a few of the other beaters have seen the light & got their dogs one too. Neoprene jackets have their place in my view if a dog is inactive for long periods in very cold weather with a swim now & again, although some hardened fowlers will dissagree with me i'm sure.
  13. I think it must take me 5 mins to get to my marsh, followed by a further 5 minute slog to get to my favoured gutter
  14. 2 skiens of about 10 & 40 flew over Wyre, Lancashire this afternoon heading south.
  15. My Gunsmith told me when I did my gun "apply a small drop of oil every day for a week, then every week for a month, then every month for 6 months & it will start looking good".
  16. 20ish of September round here too for the last few years. So lets wait & see.
  17. I would say they are Scotch Bonnets. Try this recipe I posted in in previous thread.... I've just tried my latest batch of chilli jelly & pretty damn good it is too. You get a good bit of heat & plenty of taste, all in a sweet jelly. I used 3 sweet red peppers, cored & de-seeded. 6 Jamaican hot red chillies (or Habanero if you want)with some of the seeds taken out as i wanted taste as well as heat. 12 fl oz of white pickling vinegar. 3 Lbs of caster sugar. 3 oz (85 mls) of liquid pectin. Blend the peppers & chillies together, and put in a large pan with the vinegar and sugar. Simmer for about 20 to 30 mins. Next add the pectin & bring to a good boil for 2 - 3 mins. Ladle into sterilised jars. It made about six 1/2Lb honey jars full & I think this will liven up sandwiches and cold meats a treat with it's hot & smokey flavour. If you're not too keen on the heat, take out all the seeds & white membrane, but next time I'm leaving them in.
  18. Bonham was brilliant! Moon had a personality alright....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVa4q-YVjD8 Will we ever see the like again?
