  1. Thanks for the link, I agree that would look smart on the rifle. Cheers, peter.
  2. Hello, Been a while since I've posted but once again need to pick your collective brains. I've recently been given a Diana G44 .22 springer and although it's obviously old a little bit of work should get it looking decent again. I only know what it is as it has it marked at the rear of the rifle I know very little about air rifles It has a tube and blade at the foresight position but nothing towards the rear of the rifle. I was wondering what rear sight would have been fitted originaly and is it still possible to get a replacement now. There is a rail at the back of the rifle but I dont know if this was intended for mounting a scope or not, I would prefer not to use a scope if possible. I'll only ever be shooting up to 20 yds. I would also like to know if I should be replacing any seals etc. it will mainly be used at my allotment for plinking and the odd rat, some thieving *** took my 850 air magnum that used to do the job! I have stripped the stock of its old varnish as it was quite flaky, any recomendations for the best refinishing product? i was thinking of staining and stock oil. Thanks in advance for your help
  3. Thanks for the very comprehensive reply, I know what you mean about racking it, I had to stop myself as I was beginning to look a bit obsessed. Looking at the photo of yours the scope doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. Think I'll get that application in the post! Cheers, Peter.
  4. Hello, I've just been down to st. Albans to visit a friend and whilst down there he suggested that we go out with his rifles for a spot of rabbiting . His mate came along and as he knew I haven't done a great deal of rifle shooting he thought I might like a few shots with his .44 marlin underlever. What a laugh, it made a right mess of the back of the wooden board the target was pinned to and kicked like a 12 bore. My question is, are there any clubs in the north east that do gallery shooting ( I'm sure that's what he said it was used for) and because I enjoyed the whole underlever thing, if I got one in .22 how good a tool are they for rabbits etc just using the iron sights. Cheers, Peter
  5. Hello, I've recently bought an 850 airmagnum with a beech stock to use around barns and sheds to shoot pigeons, crows and rats. This is my first air rifle as all of my shooting to date has been with a shotgun either roost shooting, decoying or driven game. After reading a bit on the net I'm wondering if I've rushed my purchase a bit as there seems to be quite a few negative comments around co2 rifles, losing power in the cold etc. I'm quite happy with the rifles accuracy and I'm getting good groups to 30m which is ample for the shooting I intend to do with it, my question is, in the future if co2 proves to be a pain,is it possible to convert to air, how much is it likely to cost and how much hassle would it be? I realise that it would be easier to just buy a pcp but I like the rifle and would rather try and stick with it. Thanks in advance for your help, Peter

  7. After some top advice from sitsinhedges and andyh I've finally managed to reload some cartridges. I used the recipe that came with my lee loadall junior wich was 17.7grains of red dot with 30g of no6 shot and built up a wad with an over powder card and fibre wad. Couple of questions, I used gamebore black gold hulls which are Gordon system, will that matter as I don't even know what Gordon system is and when I've looked at recipes on alliants site they seem to use a lot more powder, does 17.7 grains seem right? The recipe says it will produce 1200fps Thanks, Peter
  8. Cheers for the info, there's a lot of helpful people on this forum and you're definately one of them, Peter.
  9. Thanks sitsinhedges, Just looked and my hulls are 65mm long, will that make a massive difference. I have some 70 mm but no primers for them, I got the 65mm ones pre primed from kranks. I'm using a lee loadall junior and find it hard to get the unfired hulls to crimp, is that usual? Thanks, Peter
  10. Hello, I'm trying to reload some 28gram No6 12 gauge with red dot powder and fibre wads. All of the recipes I've come across state plastic wads of a specific type. Can I simply substitute fibre wads for the plastic ones or will this alter the pressures etc and make the cartridge dangerous? If I can simply substitute the wads do I just make up the height to match the hull so that it will crimp properly, I have some softer fibre wads with shiny paper at either end which are about 14mm high and some hard compressed card that are about 4mm, can they be mixed and matched or are they only to be used in specific circumstances. I have some 65mm hulls, and some 70mm ones are they interchangeable with recipes using fibre wads? Sorry if these are really stupid questions but I've tried searching the net and cant come up with the answers. Thanks, Peter
  11. Cheers rubyred, think I'm sorted a bit closer to home.
  12. Hello, looking for a lee loadall in 12g, would prefer it if I could collect from the NE area to save on postage. Cheers, Peter
  13. Thanks for the replies, went to visit Alan Myers but didn't realise it was his house and not a shop, to cut a long story short he was out. I also tried a gunshop in town, fenneys I think, but they didn't really stock much, still very pleasant though. Fenntay I didn't see your reply till Sunday and it was too late to try malmo, thanks anyway. I decide to drive back to Durham via pudsey and visited Henry Kranks, when I got there they didn't have any loadalls in stock but I've got the rest of the stuff I'll need so it wasn't a complete waste. I've got the alliant powder catalogue and I'm looking to load some 28 gram no6 fibre wads. All of the recipes state particular wads and I've just got a bag full of fibre ones, Dave at Bradford Stalker said you just alter the size of the wad to suit but I'm still not sure. Sorry if I'm being thick but could anyone reccomend a good book or source of info to point me in the right direction. Thanks, Peter
  14. Hello, I am going to have a go at reloading for my 12 bore, nothing fancy just standard fibre game loads, I know I wont make any savings it's more of an interest thing. At the moment I've got some No.6 shot and thats it, I live in Durham but this weekend I'm off to Lancaster and was wondering if anyone knew of any shops that I could visit that could kit me out with wads, primers, powder etc. Also if they sell lee loadalls that would be a bonus. I know I can get all the stuff online but I prefer to buy face to face when possible. Thanks in advance, Peter.
