  1. Me too really enjoyed the day and got lots from it. Need to get out there now and see what happens.
  2. Thank you for all your comments, hares definatly a no no with the air rifle. Cheers,
  3. Hi all, I have a Daystate .177 non FAC air rifle and was wondering if it will be man enough to deal with rabbits and possibly small hares??? If so at what distance will it be effective, on my permission their seems to have been an explosion of rabitts and hares, normally i use my shotgun for pigeons but i cant get close enough before they up and go. I dont want to take a shot unless i know the gun is effective enough and can kill cleanly. You thoughts please
  4. Guys On my permission they have prepared the soil ready for sowing the cover crop, have any of you tried to fool pigeons into thinking that the soil has been freshly drilled? If no do you think it would work, the plan would be to create to separate small folks say 12 in each with a rotary and 2 floaters. What do you think. Cheers
  5. Thanks for the advice , i am not going to give up becasue i enjoy the sport too much, but i must admit it was nice just to sit there in the beautiful sunshine with my dog looking over the yelow fields.
  6. Hi all, I know most of you are far more experienced than me so please bare with me on this one. Ok I have been involved in pigeon shooting since Jan this year so i know i still have a lot to learn however, i have since this time been trying to apply myself to learning my craft by reading books, magazine articals, watching DVD's and asking questions on this site. I have been going over to my permission most days just looking for flight lines, evidence of were the birds are eating the crops and any other evidence or consistant behavier patterns. I have also been going at differnet times of the day and late evening. I have 1500 acres to shot over most is open fields with hedge rows and wooded areas, the crops contain rape seed and corn there are also some ponds. I have been over there shooting on 8 occasions and my best bag is 2!!!! What if anything am i doin wrong? So this is were i have to ask the question do flight lines really exsist? and what point is field craft? Equipment wise i have an assortment of decoys totalling 24, i have a rotory and some floaters but nothing seems to work, i make sure that i stay perfectly still and make no movement, fortuantly i stay most of the time in wooded areas so cover and visability is very good. I have been over on Friday and today and saw a total of 6 pigeons 3 crows and quite a few ducks (shame that not in season) Does all this really boil down to being in the right place at the right time, all i keep hearing and seeing is these big bags of birds. Thanks for reading (Frustrated of Brentwood)
  7. Cheers, exactly what i was looking for.
  8. Ok point taken, let me put it another way. Is there a usual time at which point the pigeons are not going to come in anymore. For example its not worth waiting around lets say 1 hour before dark or you need to be in place 3 hrs before sunset or you keep going until you cant see anymore?
  9. Hi all, Just wondering that now the clocks have charged when do you think it is time to stop shooting?, I was mainly thinking of them coming in to roost? Cheers,
  10. All, This is more of a discussion point then a question. We all know that pigeons can pick you out if you are not covered correctly our your moving around. But what about when roost shooting, i have a very well trained lab that i make sit while i am standing still in the woods. Do you think that if i where to allow my lab to move around while roost shooting, the pigeons would be put off by the site of a black dog? I'm farly new to this so your thoughts are greatly appriciated. Cheers everyone
  11. Hi All, Purchased a used Mk3 Daystate from a repeatable dealer a few weeks ago in immaculate condition. Checked on the Daystate website and found out that it is 4 years old but no service record. I know that my airgun could have been serviced elsewhere but how often would you recommend a service (i realise it depends on usage) and what sort of charges would I be looking at? Finally should I go to Daystate directly or are there good airgun service centres out there I live around the Brentwood area Cheers,
  12. Brilliant, I remember my labs first runner, it almost made me cry.
  13. Hello all, I,m new to this so when you are out roost shooting do you stay put or move around? Cheers
  14. Yes i agree 100% i shoot game with my 12 bore but only after i spent a lot of time and money on lessons at the clay range. Plan to do the same with the air rifle.
