I've worked in front line child protection for over 10 years. I put my heart and soul into my job, work ridiculously long hours for what I consider is insufficient pay, and get no thanks/reward whatsoever. Usually just abuse, both verbal and physical - not just from family's but the general public. It's nice to hear my profession being backed up for a change.

I was once a complete towny, and not long after I met Scaffy, we were in the car driving through the countryside. I commented that we must have been driving through the land of rich farmers. Confused, Scaffy said 'eh?'. 'Well', I said, 'they can afford to cover their hay bails with plastic'. I now know what haylage and silage is. sigh.

Typically apt the law was passed in 1969.

Greetings, and Ello to all of you I haven't spoken to in a while. I've been a social worker in child protection for coming on 10 years now. I won't even bother to respond to ignorant comments about my profession, as it's so not worth it. I also don't plan to rant and rave on a public forum as 1. I don't want to get banned, and 2. Big brother is always watching and I have a great respect for my professionalism. However if you'd like a private chat with me, feel free to pm me and I'll do my best to give you my personal honest opinions.

I wouldn't want to be a mod for love nor money. I think it's a thankless task and hard work. I have on occasion been warned myself, and upon reflecting and in hindsight, accept the reasons. I think sometimes people take offense to being warned or having a thread closed down, but in all honesty if there was no censorship and order then things would become unmanagable.

Puppies can be hard work, but you get out of them what you put it to them. All worth it in the end. Persevere!

Despite which arena of media we're discussing, unbiased reports are just not possible. Everything has a political agenda these days otherwise it wouldn't get reported. However, just because a report is biased in one direction or another, doesn't mean the general jist of the information being provided is false. The media have to be careful about ensuring they report the truth, however reports then often get skewed by opinion added on, don't ya reckon?

If you're going on what the manufacturer states the mpg should be - you need to remember they are taking into account things like correct tyre pressure and driving the car like a granddad on a Sunday afternoon (incominggggggggg ). I know I drive my vehicles a little hard and Scaffy always gets better mpg than I do (Sunday driver again ). However, I've begun to realise just how much money I'm wasting driving so hard. Since the fuel has gone up again, and knowing it's just going to continue to rise, I've made a conscious effort to keep away from the red line. Now fuel is almost as expensive as vodka, I'm saving myself a fortune (and I'm sure the vehicles are thanking me for it too).
