  1. Strange. Your shooting isn't going to bother his cattle?!?? Anyhow, good shooting. The other thing there will be plenty of in due course will be rats. And with the rats will come the foxes.
  2. Nice bag. The wind last weekend put an end to it for me. The acorns and beechmast are down and the birds are just staying in the roosting woods. That field however is going to be brill for you if it doesn't get cut!
  3. Ohhh so jealous. Sounds great. There's little comes close to it for sport.
  4. Here's a tip. I connect mine to a long wire wound up in an old extension cable holder. I have it connect at other end to a push button for a door bell. It's brilliant. You can hold for continuous flapping or give it a quick push for a small single flap. Ding dong. Pigeon at the door. So to speak. Oh, and I can also run two flappers of it at once.

Native. How long do you have to live in a place to be a native? Just watched the news and the police appear to have acted disgracefully against people undertaking peaceful actions. Completely overthetop. As was said previously, the Central govt could have just sat back. Waited for the result. And declared it invalid. Now if the vote goes in favour, the Catalan govt is likely to declare independence and the **** will hit the fan.
  6. Super come back. Looking forward to seeing more pics from pigeon central.

Catalonia is nothing analogous to what you suggest. It is the equivalent of Scotland, Wales or NI. They should be allowed their vote and I suspect the Central government in Madrid has probably done more to bolster Independence than the Nationalists could have wished for in their wildest dreams.
  8. Best shooting ever in my opinion. Nothing compares. I'd give every other type of shooting up for flighting pigeons.

How do they get from one house to the next? Taxi maybe?

    Ryanair

Prospective lawyers and doctors pay similar in uni fees etc... and then go on training contracts. What's the difference? The earning potential once qualified is certainly similar!

    Ryanair

These posts are just nonsense. Personally I detest Ryanair, but they make Profit! FACT! 1.1 billion in the last financial year post tax profit. Their business model is nothing like Freddie Laker.
  12. Great bag. Well done. I'm hoping Santa brings me a field of standing barley!
  13. Here's my bouncer in all its glory!
  14. On Monday on my way to work I noticed pigeons heading into the woods first thing. Not a good sign. Acorns? Beechmast? Fast forward to this afternoon. Not a bird to be seen. ? I was out from 12 looking and as time marched on in desperation I decided to check out a field under an old flightline. When I arrived there were 10 birds down feeding. Plus a few crows. It was such a nice afternoon. A strong southerly wind. Too enticing to simply give up. I also had a home made bouncer I wanted to try out. So, I set up with 6 shells and soon managed to get the bouncer going. Birds came in a steady trickle for the rest of the afternoon. Taking an age to slide in low crossing the field to join my growing flock. I finished at 5.30 and picked 73, a few crows and a brace of magpies. I suspect it's coming to an end for while though.
  15. Same here, on this side of the sea. Plus we have loads of beech mast. Still, I managed to bag a few today. Although I expect they will be disappearing soon. The wind this afternoon will have brought loads down.
  16. I thought Desmond Tutu put it beautifully in his open letter. "My dear sister: if the political price of you ascension to the highest office in Myanmar is your silence, the price is surely too steep".
  17. I had a frustrating but enjoyable day. At about 2pm I found a hundred on so on an old barley stubble. I set up straight away. The birds came back in two big bunches. I pushed them off again without firing a shot. A proper flight then started, but as they came back in two and threes they skirted the field and wouldn't decoy. I tried everything to no avail. By 4 pm I had pulled down about twenty or so. Not one had decoyed and most where stratospheric. The wind picked up and few large showers kept pushing through. The birds still weren't playing ball, so it was time to change tactics. I abandoned the decoys moved down the field and buried myself in a dry ditch. From here I could intercept them high on the line into the field. I finished at 6.30 and picked up 81. So turned out a good afternoon, although not as I had intended. There is only a few birds in pic. I had to pack up two locations in a hurry as the weather was turning real nasty.
  18. The issue of the Irish border has very little if anything to do with illegal migration. It's about Irish and UK citizens movement within the CTA and trade. People shouldnt buy in to the nonsense of the Calais issue somehow transfering to the Dundalk Newry border. It just rubbish being spouted.
  19. The UK/Ireland common travel area predates either country joining the EU. Free movement in and between the people of these islands is not an issue for either country. The bi-lateral treaty already exists. It is only an issue because the EU wants to make it one. But it seems today that this might be the first thing sorted out in the negotiations according to reports coming out from Brussels.
  20. I always have one with me. But I don't use it unless I have to. When I do set it up I always set it closer to the hide than the pattern and off to right or left depending on the wind. My theory is pretty simple. Generally approaching birds don't like flying over their mates to get into the pattern. The rotary is there draw their attention. So once you got that, you want them to focus on getting into land.
  21. Headed out this afternoon for a bank holiday foray. Found a field with 20 birds down feeding, but little joining. This was about 2 o'clock. The forecast wasn't good and I knew I was going to have to make a call quick otherwise the weather would close in. I notice the birds down were not on the ideal side of the field and I would have to set up with the wind in my face. Luckily there was a high hedge to get buried in. I watched for a half hour and decided to give it a go. Set up and shooting for 3pm. Finished shortly after 5pm. Birds decoyed nicely. No gizmos, just started with 6 shells and replaced them with dead birds as I went along. 42 was the final pickup. 36 in the photo. Oh. And as the title suggests. Rain stopped play. Otherwise the bag would have been bigger.
  22. There's alot of beech mast this year again as well.
