  1. Congratulations mate.......... It's the best feeling in the world.
  2. Yeah. If you're buying a new gun and don't have a gun to part exchange, you can usually get a pretty good deal.
  3. I bought an air rifle on the mainland about 18 months ago. The deal was done over the phone, and the dealer sent it over to my RFD,at a cost of £35 for P&P. My dealer then charged me a £30 handling fee. Even with these charges,I still saved enough money on the deal to buy a half decent scope. It was all very straight forward, and went through without a hitch.
  4. Registered Firearms Dealer............ Not sure about importing from the States. I would think that it would involve a whole lot of hassle.
  5. Another vote for a Lanber O/U. I use a Sporting Deluxe for my rough shooting.Very reliable gun. Yep,you can. But it has to come in through an RFD,and they'll charge you a handling fee.
  6. As above, great write up. That was a morning you'll remember for a long time.
  7. Cheers pal. Looks like it'll have to be 2+1 then.
  8. What are the special conditions that have to be met,for someone to be granted an FAC for a 12g 5 shot semi-auto,over here?
  9. Nice rifle mate,happy hunting.
  10. Managed to bag my first rabbit today. Around these parts it been years since we've much bother with bunnies,so I've never bothered with them. But this year has started to see an increase in numbers on our ground. I was spreading slurry today, and had the o/u with me,in case I came across any magpies, but managed to bag this instead........... from the tractor seat.
  11. Believe me,it doesn't take much.
  12. Thanks for the reply. I don't have clue about how to judge wind speed with any degree of accuracy.I thought that it would be a handy bit of kit to have, until I can learn to gauge wind speed from visual signs.
  13. Have any of you used a Caldwell Wind Wizard? How would you rate them? or is there any other wind meters that you would recommend?
  14. Glad to see you've got off to a good start with your new rifle.
  15. Here's an example of what can happen if it goes wrong. The farmer had taken a shot at a crow sitting in a tree and missed........... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7073695.stm
  16. I've never heard one,but my Dad can remember hearing them years ago. I think there had been one found somewhere near Castlecaulfield a few years ago.The RSPB got involved to try and protect it,but I'm not sure if it paired up with mate. Hopefully they will start to make a return. You would think that with the increase in the amount of land in the Countryside Management Scheme, that there would be a lot more suitable habitats for them to breed in.
  17. 'round here, the early morning is the best.
  18. Yeah, that's plenty. If they're coming in to the yard to feed, they're not going to be hard to bring in to the gun, your decoys will draw them into the area you want to shoot them in. If they're coming in in good numbers, use the semi and take them on the wing, you'll get a bigger bag.
  19. If the field has been grazed earlier in the season, and a crop of silage has been taken now, they usually hang about on it rather than move on to fresh ground. There's still plenty of cow $h1t on the ground for them to poke through.
  20. I had look at the HW66 when I was shopping around for my HMR. Lovely rifle, well engineered and it handled well. If I hadn't been on a budget,I would have went for one.
  21. I bought a Prostaff 4-12x40 a few weeks ago to go on my HMR. I had been going to go for a 3-9x40,but when the dealer contacted the Nikon distributor, they told him that they could do either the 4-12x40 or 3-9x50 cheaper than the 3-9x40.I ended up paying £165 for mine.I think read somewhere that there's a new model coming out with finger adjustable turrets,so I reckon they're trying to clear the older stock. I'm very please with mine, they're great scope for the money.
  22. The best deal I can find locally for hmr is £12/50 for hornady.
  23. I know what you mean about zipping through. I was zeroing my new rig, using 20grn Hornady's(it was all the RFD had in stock).I had 3" thick wooden backstop, and they were going through it. But,saying that I was out in the field yesterday for the first time and took a magpie at about 50yds.Exit wound was about 1" diameter and almost took the wing off as well.
