    Landline problem

I think water ingress is a big problem. Years ago I needed 3 engineers to find a fault on my line between house and pole. Was told expansion in hot weather and contraction in cold weather breaks the insulation on the wire, and allows water in. The same with TV aerial if it's on the roof and water runs down to your equipment, I once had water into VHS recorder.
  3. Cheers for that. Surefire or Superfire ? Where from ?
  4. I've got some flowers coming on strawberries.

    Landline problem

Well update for this, seems to have rectified itself, or no one has contacted me about anything anyway. Did go through another little phase where when I tried to phone out on landline phone just displayed line busy, which it wasn't. Anyway, all seems ok at the moment. Happy Days, or we'll see.🤞
  6. I don't reload, so anything I clean in mine, jewellery, shaver heads etc., I just paper towel dry and leave to evaporate. Only two of my older shotguns have ever been out in the rain, so again paper towel dry and hair dryer and left to evaporate, then the usual oily cloth. Cleaning mix is warm water and washing up liquid. Shotgun reference is only to suggest hair dryer.
  7. Does anyone know of a motion sensor head torch that just has 1 mode, on and off, without all the bells and whistles of strobe etc. ?

    Landline problem

I am pretty sure into my house is just copper. The annoying part is it's intermittent, and Rimfire says in his post above he's getting similar and he lives far away from me. My brother's fault with BT could be totally different from mine, but I'm with sky and they said they found nothing wrong. Like I mentioned above, if I use my landline to landline or mobile to landline ( I have Tesco mobile ), I sometimes get the message " this number has not been recognised ), this can happen once, twice then next time will go ok. Next Thursday I have a Sky engineer coming to upgrade to Sky Q as my HD+ box has broke ( the telephone problem existed before this happened ), I'll pick his brains. Also, to throw into the mix my faster broadband which is part of the deal I had is being switched on today and I have a new router to change.
  9. Jaymo Are you a pilot or sound recordist then ?
  10. I think I'm correct in saying all landlines are BT supplied and rented out to various companies Sky etc. Intermittently for weeks but getting more frequent, when I phone landline to landline or mobile to landline , a message sometimes says, " this number has not been recognised ", this involves sky, bt, landlines and mobile, Tesco in my case to landlines. Either by direct dialling or using the phones phone book, so landlines seems to be the common factor, and is happening on outgoing and incoming calls, with people phoning me getting the same message. I phoned BT for my brother and they said they found a fault, I phoned Sky for myself and they could not find a fault but would monitor my line for 1 week. Is it a possibility that there is a problem for my area where I live that is affecting the telephone landlines of many people ?
  11. We are having a whole lamb so need to empty the freezer somewhat. Rummaging through what we can eat to make room, my wife come across two separate brands of mixed shellfish, prawn squid etc. , none had been opened. Both had 2024 dates, I've started one now for tea. Packaging on this one was as you'd expect. The second package however is like an inflated football, although it is still sealed it's like it's been pumped up. I can't remember ever seeing any frozen item like this, and would not have bought it, it just doesn't look right. Has anyone any comments, I'm not going to consume the contents, I'll use them for fox or rat bait.
  12. I've had spiders hanging on door mirrors for dear life when they've made webs on my car. Yesterday, my brother went with a farmer for a ride taking cattle to market. When coming home a mouse appeared sitting on a wiper arm, then disappeared down into the engine bay. When they got back to the farm, lifted the bonnet and found a mouse nest.
  13. That took me back, to standing on the tailboard of a " S " reg rangerover with a shotgun for fox or rabbit. Tap on roof, farmer stops. Bang, picker up collects. Something nice about using a traditional light. 👍
  14. When you see aircraft cockpit or sound equipment like you see in a recording studio. Do you think pilots or sound person actually use or know what all the buttons and switches are for ?
  15. Welsh 1 Thank you I appreciate and accept your apology. Thanks to all my fellow members for their support.
  16. Rally the troops Ditchy. "30-6 is innocent" I think I need an apology and warning taken away.
  17. For Welsh 1, I DID NOT change the spelling that is the title of the film. It passed the filters. So I still maintain I have done nothing wrong. For Ditchman, If I need any pointers I will contact you, as you seem the best man to advise me LOL 😄. Do you think I need to start a " 30-6 is innocent " campaign ? 😉😉😉
  18. Well, just had a warning off Welsh 1 for putting up the title of the film. It passed the swear filter as was spelt different. Took the warning, but to be honest thought it was an unfair warning.
  19. Watched the film can't remember the first name but it was something basterds. Did anyone who watched it think it was a bit gory, especially the very last scene.
  20. I've mentioned this before years ago. I wanted to start collecting bullet cases and the bullet, together with some fired bullets to compare them. So had a .22 lr pulled the bullet, emptied the powder out and wondered about the live primer in the rim. So I bent a 90 degrees bit on the end of a stiff wire and proceeded to scrape out the primer. One bang and black fingers later, realized that was not a good idea. But, they say, ' if you don't make mistakes you'll never learn '. I learnt something that day.
  21. There is a name, email and mobile contact given.
  22. That sounds genius thinking. All we done was fashion a bit of copper pipe and drop the firework in backwards after lighting.
  23. Old'un We just lit the banger and dropped it in backwards. We used to have " gambos ", pram wheels and planks, anything combustible went on there, and when full we'd sit on there and ride it home holding up the traffic. Another thing we done was fire rockets up the roads, laid on the tarmac they would follow the kerbs. We did clear the paths of snow for people, and used to hang around strategic positions so when cars got stuck in the snow, we'd offer to push them for a fee. Bus stops and working men clubs were the best for penny for the guy.
  24. Good old days. Neighbouring villages fought each other, trying to light each others bonfire. Each had " sentry's " on duty. The middle was hollowed out to make a camp. Used to make banger guns out of copper pipe. Used to buy cheap clip together boats, airfix type thing, sail them on the local river and elastic band bangers to them and blow them up. In the 60' s 5th of November was important to a 10 year old.
