Lack of testing! We have tested more than any other country (6,434,713) only behind USA (23,794,382) and Russia (14,218,674).

Except when we had the most cases going on they only tested in hospital and told everyone else to isolate at home. We are bulk testing now but there is no way at all that we are anywhere near the correct number of cases.  The early suggestions were we were out by a multiple of 10 but even that is probably too low

To be honest the stats globally are a joke. If you look at the death rate against he number of positive cases our health service doesn't look good. 14% of people tested positive have died. Same as Italy. Better than France at 19% but well behind Spain at 9% and miles away from those world leaders in healthcare - USA 6%, Germany 5%, Iran 5%, India 3%, Turkey 3% and Russia 1%!

Our NHS should be ashamed of itself letting all those people die! OR we just admit that the stats are ****

Country Total Cases Total Deaths  Death rate
    World  7,670,348   425,919  6%
    USA  2,100,999   116,389  6%
    Brazil  809,398   41,162  5%
    Russia  511,423   6,715  1%
    India  309,389   8,890  3%
    UK  292,950   41,181  14%
    Spain   290,289   27,136  9%
    Italy  236,305   34,223  14%
    Peru  214,788   6,109  3%
    Germany  186,933   8,853  5%
    Iran   182,525   8,659  5%
    Turkey  175,218   4,778  3%
    Chile  160,846   2,870  2%
    France   155,561   29,346  19%

Ours is purely down to lack of testing, millions have had it but not been tested

    Would a stump grinder work?

I’ve had to face one yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

    LS

But it depends how much it chops up the rhizomes and mixes them with the soil, as these spread massively in all directions you would then have to keep on top of any re growth.

  4. I bit the bullet with our neighbours one that has been invading and cleared the fence line it was coming through and dig over the soil. An entire recycling bin of rhizomes later and it’s still popping up in the lawn 10 feet away from the fence. Can only hope this will reduce over time but we shall see.  Good luck and keep spraying it!

I have an Hayter Harrier 48 the engine is perfect but the bearings in the split rear roller are knackered and it needs two front wheels, I can almost buy a new mower for the cost of the parts and apparently it's a pig of a job, admittedly it wont be another Hayter.

We’ve a Hayter 41 and my mother and the mother in law have 48’s I have to say touch wood with the use they get they seem very reliable. The newest likes drive belts to be changed every 2 years but that is probably down to the driver having some very steep banks.... with the way they cut we would probably replace but they seem to just keep going.

  6. We tend to have a week abroad then the rest in our touring caravan in the uk.  Small sites in Norfolk, Dorset and Cornwall.  I would say it is what you make it, if you enjoy lots of outdoors then They are all fantastic. The caravan makes life easy and we rarely pay more than £30 a night for 2 of us two children and two dogs. You just tailor activities to the weather, in ten years going to Cornwall in July/ August we have never failed to spend a fair proportion on the beach.  We will see what happens this year and if it is too rammed to be worth it

The 1.5 door models (Ford super or King cab, Isuzu extended cab, Toyota Extra cab, Nissan king cab or Mitsubishi club cab) give me all I need from a passenger compartment but with the added advantage of a longer load bed?

Also, the bigger trucks with rear a canopy are a pita to park where I currently live (I have to reverse off a main road and around a corner) - but we are moving next year (self build, in year 4 of a 2 year project....) where parking is not an issue.

Fuel economy I am not interested in. My annual mileage will be less than 5000 which may be why an advert for a P38 Range Rover in 2.5 diesel keeps drawing me back.

Unless I am mistaken the 1.5 cabs are the same size as a standard pickup as you gain bed length while loosing the body.
personally I have had l200’s for years now as they suit whatever we do.  It’s happy going to Cornwall loaded with bikes, children and dogs and towing a caravan and also ideal on  shooting / keeping duties. Economy wise the current one is averaging 32mpg since new which includes quite a bit of towing.  We also have an outlander and that’s fine as a car but not a shooting vehicle.

Parking wise with the cameras and sensors on the new ones it’s surprising how easy they are to park

  8. They are dead easy and the return seems ok. I seem to get about £500 a year but my other half has had 2 £1000 wins in the last 2 years plus the extra so well above the usual return.
The plus points are it’s easy to get money in and out, returns are tax free and you could win the big one.

It sounds like your over familiar young dog got 'taught' its manners by a, possibly a bit crusty, older dog and came away a trifle chastened by the experience.

This is how healthy normal dogs interact and I'm amazed that it should generate a page full of comments.

Thank god we got a sensible post in the end.  The dog learned a lesson and that’s it, if there are no marks then the other dog did a good job and the pup learned a lesson.  Ultimately you want your dog to interact and this will actually have done it good so just move on.

Michael O'Leary (head of Ryan Air) said on breakfast TV this morning that most passengers are going to simply ignore the 14 day quarantine rule. I suspect he is right about that.

Possibly but even before lockdown employers were starting to insist on 14 days before they would let you back to work if you had been to one of the previous hot spots so there is hope that it would be taken seriously. After all if your 2 weeks annual holiday was going to cost you a month off work who would bother

    And the alternative is?

As they started out, shield the vulnerable and let everyone else crack on.  The best case is you get herd immunity. The worst case is the younger side of the population keep the economy going and have to put up with catching this. From the initial appearance a lot will hardly know they have had it

A vet said to me the other day this could be worse it could be a virus that kills 90% of people.

  12. 23 hours ago, hodge911 said:

The only real number that matters is how many poor people who have been killed by this virus so why the hell the government have to lie & manipulate things beats me

Indeed that’s the numbers that matter. This is where the information is

    https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/deathsregisteredweeklyinenglandandwalesprovisional/weekending24april2020

Ultimately it shows covid 19 is only just catching up with pneumonia and flu as a cause of death. People do die and the media has whipped this up into a frenzy and the whole population seems terrified of it.  Ultimately if you distance and don’t socialise it seems the risks are low.  Then you add in the fact that even if you do catch it the odds of it killing you are below 1% you wonder how long we can nuke our entire economy and way of life.

I get the keeping the at risk groups locked down but as for everyone else it’s not a long term option.  The new app they are relying on seems like a liability.... the fact you can self report symptoms then anyone you have been near is supposed to self isolate seems massively open to abuse.  I can only imagine this in our workplace where come Monday morning half the warehouse is usually trying to pull a sickie this seems like the perfect way to put a spanner in the works!

  13. Also check the age they were scored at.  Breeders will get their dogs scored as early as they can as wear reduces scores. Some having an occasional litter will only score when they know they want to breed so the dog could be a couple of years older so a higher score is more acceptable

A bit ironic that people on here are moaning about being associated with "shooting" a swan but are happy to decide it was travellers, Romanians etc without any evidence.

Catapults are another sport to the traveller fraternity here. Though they don’t tend to use ball bearings as they have an ample supply of small stones. We get to see a sample most years as they leave a small pile with some pheasant poults at the gate to our pen just to stick a couple of fingers up and let us know they have been. Swans aren’t their usual remit they do usually stick to game species....

  15. Possibly mid March I had a temperature sore throat followed by a cough and a tight chest.  None particularly bad but I’ve never had a tight chest in my life so I do wonder if I have had it very mildly.  However none of the household had it so it may just have been a cold but the symptoms do sound a bit textbook

Why? Nissan bought them all back didn't they? My mate got full market value back on his from Nissan . And they lent him another vehicle for several weeks. I think they behaved remarkably honourably considering his was about seven years old..

I'm told, although I don't have any personal experience to draw on that ISUZU score the best on everything except interior trim.

Another mate of mine is about 18 months into a Ranger, he loves it except he says the fuel consumption is a killer He is putting about £100 -150 a week in his and its peeing him off

People can’t get round the smaller engine better economy principle.  The rangers are fine if a work vehicle and they pay fuel otherwise it’s a killer.  It’s why I didn’t get one or a hilux as they seem to be the worst of the bunch.  I wanted to be able to use 4x4 full time on the road when needed on frosty roads and that doesn’t give many options.  I’ve had 4 L200’s now and the latest barbarian is very nice if you mostly need a car and then shoot part time. I use mine for commuting and then shooting plus towing our caravan with kids, 2 dogs etc etc. Over 18k miles it’s averaged 32mpg that’s including the time towing the  caravan and my small trailer with logs on etc really hard to beat

  17. We accepted an offer on our house the day this kicked off.  Everyone seems to be trying to push the sale through though i will be amazed if it goes through if it does we will bank the money and have an annexe at the outlaws to stay in while we find another.  The more this goes on the more it is looking like a good plan.

  18. Our neighbours have loads and it keeps spreading out side of the fence and across the lawn bloody stuff.  I’ve tried cutting and filling the stems with neat roundup and it knocks it a bit but not much.  Some is now 14ft tall or so and over shadowing my veg patch so not that impressed with it..

in your case at least you can deal with it at source

  19. Our Mitsubishi Outlander rear light clusters are an absolute pain to pull out.  They are on a clip at the back and take a bit of effort to get out. £6 for Halfords to change is a bargain..... the last one the guy used a tool behind and it went ping as the plastic light broke.  They just ordered a new one and fitted next time we popped in £120 up on that one we were!

I don't have a fully electric, but I do have a new RAV4 hybrid (self charging) and a colleague has a Outlander PHEV.

The Mpg on my RAV4 goes down by an appreciable amount when its heating the car, I actually have a setting that switches it to only heat the driver. The Outlander can warm up by remote control if it's plugged in if you don't do this the mileage suffers but it only does around 25 miles anyway.

Headlights are LED and will have practically no effect they  use 0.05 bhp at most?

As to the reduction in battery life a 4 year old Outlander is worth less than 10k I presume this is because of battery worries.
