  3. Went to feed a duck pond and called at a farm on the way ,I saw pigeons crossing over the road and going into a stubble field so drove on the field and put them off parked up and watched ,after about 10 min had birds coming back so set up in a hawthorn hedge as near to the flighting as possible used flocked deeks on spring sticks which moved well in the light wind ,had birds in as I got back in the hide shot ok at times having 3 doubles and a few nice long ones shot for a couple of hours and had 46 woodies and a carrion crow.and then went to feed the duck pond and put 11 mallard off so things looking ok.
  4. Took my 12 year old grandson and my 2 dogs and went to see if we could start our game season off, we walked some stubble and a big weed patch 2 birds got up but not a safe shot as they flew across a farm yard , I then did a rough patch at the side of a wood a cock bird rose wich I shot .I hit another bird that flew on then i got a second cock,we did a ditch side that normal holds birds but none in, we then worked another ditch side on a stubble field we but birds up but again a house saved these as they flew towards it at the end a nice hen bird got up a curled away and my grandson shot it a nice mature hen.we then when and looked at some new sowing and found a flight line to a wood we setup on the wood corner and had some very good shooting with jake my grandson getting his first ever right and left at pigeons we got 53 woodies and what a super day for us both.3 pheasants and 53 pigeons.

Got on some stubble at last had my 12 year old grandson out with his 20 bore, he started off well 4 birds for 6 shots then he had a blip and missed a few I shot some good birds with a new semi auto only the second time with the gun.he then got back in the swing and shot another 6 birds so 10 were his and I had 30so we finished with 40 birds a good day for us both.

  12. Had a phone call about rabbits on a field of sowing ,it's about 5in.tall and they have crazee it all along a hedgerow. Took the HMR.and after getting in position had a little wait before they started to come back out.I let about 9 come out before I took my first one nocked it over at 50yds and only 2 ran in so took another 2 before any more ran in .waited again and more came out and 2 rabbits came one behind the other I shot the first one and the bullet went through it and hit the second one as well never had that happen before with the hmr the first had been shot through the neck so that's why the bullet went through, got a couple more before the midges became to mutch.love the hmr for bunnies .
  13. Hi mate what calibre are you using ,that's a cracking shot at night on a rabbit.hope your nv is ok .
  14. Well done sounds like you enjoyed yourself.
  15. Took out my 12 year old grandson out yesterday as he has not been out for a 3 weeks being not well ,took him clay shooting first to get his eye in as he not shot for a while, he shot about 5o% after the clays went and had a look at some sowing it had started to come through but had birds on it walked them off and waited to see if they came back.a bit of a line started to come over a ditch so as no other cover was near we built a hide in the ditch only problem was we were shooting on a slope as it was the start of the ditch the rest was water.decoys 30 yards out and first birds came in shot one missed the second as could not get on it proper because of the slope.I shot a couple more then let grandson start shooting he missed the first couple so I told him to go further up the slope of the bank but keep down till birds over the decoys next bird came in and he nailed it with is 20 bore .he hit the next one both barrels and it dropped way out ,the farmer came to have a look at the crops and he drove down the other side of the ditch to us I got out to talk to him and as I was stood out at the side of his 4x4 the youngster shot 3 nice birds in the 10 min I was chatting the farmer seemed well impressed ,it was late when we set up due to going the clays and after about a hour and half they started to tail off .we picked up 22 and a feral so not to bad.
  16. When to have a look at some sowing that was done in the week, it's a field I have shot many time over the years and it always has crows on it ,the problem is the rookery is in hear shot of the shooting and some times a couple of shots and that's it .today the wind was blowing away from the rookery so it looked good set up midway along the field near a hawthorn and a oak Tree , set 8 decoys out and within 5 minster, has a bird down after that it was dribs and drabs but when I had about 10 dead birds they came in a lot better, had some good sport and picked 31 plus a pigeon the bag was rooks jackdaws carrion crows and the 1 pigeon.so a enjoyable afternoon ,farmer happy as well.
  17. Had a look at a field that was sown on Thursday, birds in sycamores trees at far end ,a flight line into the trees but coming over a syndicate shoot , the problem was the sowing was head to wind with the birds coming over from the back .put out 18 shells on stick and 5 dead birds from Thursday. First birds came in well and I got both next thing sun came out and was in my eyes so wind and sun both in my face.but had some good sport shot some good birds jinking in the wind ended up with 33 wooden and a crow so not a bad day.
  18. Had a look at a perm that was to be sown a couple of weeks ago but due to the rain it was done yesterday.this perm has at times a good few crows , so knowing they like one of the sown fields I set out at 1.30.only about 60 crows when I arrived walked them off and sat and watched ,birds started to return so set up in a hawthorn hedge with 8 decoys first bird came in and was shot ,the noise put up a few pigeons from trees over a road one that I got was put out to one side crows returned in dribs and every one shot was added to the pattern . It was very pleased t sitting in the sun with a light wind , about 3 30 a few more pigeons began to move and I had a good long bird this also was put out had some good sport with pigeons and crows finished up with 21 crows and 7 pigeons. Not a big bag but very enjoyable for a couple of hours .
  19. Was outwith my grandson on a sown barley field ,was watching the field on Thursday and seen birds feeding and flying over , we set up near a hawthorn bush a wood at our back, 18 half she'll deeks and a flapper birds very reluctant to come in at first so I shot some good crossing and high birds going to the wood, after placing out the dead birds a few started to decoy that's when the youngster got some shooting ,he has 20 bore and 25 gram shells it was is first time over decoys and he shot five birds and hit a couple ,to say he was happy was a understatement he was very pleased near the end birds came in welland we picked 40 with 2 crows so good day and one happy boy.
