  1. Went to a dairy farm that has sheep overwintering ,they bring them from Wales to feed them up for lambing,we walk the fields first and got eyeshine but behind a hedge so tried to get round it but it had gone , so went the other side of farm and a fox took off as soon as light was on it ,so but a fox caller out 60 yds in field only just got back to shooting position but lamp on eyeshine and the caller was drawing it in.had a good rest and took the shot about 90 or so yds down it went..now that is the first fox with that rifle and was well pleased as the 17remington did a good job a barren vixen in good nick. So we'll pleased .

  8. Got bogged down with a job this morning and feeding a pond for ducks, so afternoon I went to look at a field that that we shot over 2 weeks ago when we shot over 60 crows. Still a lot of crows using the stubble so after watching a while picked my spot and set up , by now it was 2 30 so I knew I had only a hour and half at most .had 7 decoys 35 yds in front . Birds come from a wood about 500 yds away first bird a high crow was missed after that I shot well and the bag started to build had a mixed bag of corvids rook. jackdaws .and carrion crows. With 4 doubles , the bag was 29 picked with 3 that dropped in a wide overgrown ditch so 32 for my 1 and half hours.I wished I could have gone earlier as I know I would have got more but still happy at the result.
  9. Was ment to say woodpigeon and a cockpheasent .
  10. Was out to day with my grandson we fed the duck pond first. Then put out some fox bait on another farm. I saw a flight line of crows to stubble field and a few pigeons as well. So decided to give them a couple of hours.set up near a big oak the birds were going to put decoys about 30 yds apart crows on the right pigeons on the left.someone was shooting another farm so the birds were being disturbed and moving on the strong wind .the shooting was at fast jinking birds and I missed a few but some that were very good .the pigeons very difficult to get in range but I got 15 the crows very sporadic as a lot of fields of stubble plus sheep and cattle fields so only got 6 , a bonus was a cocktail pheasant that my Cockerspaniel flushed as I was looking for a pigeon. So 15 wooden 6 crows 1 pheasant. Not a bad couple of hours.
  11. Well done sounds like everyone had a good day.
  12. Hi wigan wiganwafc yes can get you some crows etc will take you with me you can come shooting if you want to . One day next week.
  13. Went to a perm that is a dairy farm always crows on there trouble is the roost wood gathering area is not far away on another farm that I don't shoot , so when you fire a lot of birds are disturbed set up on a line between 2 fields put out 8 full bodied deeks hide was in a hawthorn hedge had birds back straight away shot one then had a wait before any more came hit a bird both barrels that dropped behind me birds came intermittent and I shot well I picked 15 and lost 2 behind me I fired 22 shells for 18 hit so was very pleased ,I know it's not the biggest bag but very enjoyable couple of hours.
  14. Hi we are feeding a hundred weight of barley a week in 3 feeds and every time the food has gone.
  15. We have a pond that we feed regular and it's a tracing a lot of birds,we shot it nearly three weeks ago and took 4 birds each. And left as more birds were coming in but 8 birds between us was enough,we took a friend with us tonight and a lot of birds on pond as we got there they started to come back in numbers 5 then 2 then 6 then 3 and so on we shot well but after we shot 10 between 3 of us we left after feeding the pond .the feed going at a big rate but no wonder the amount of birds using it,goes to show if you don't overshoot and feed regular you can get good sport.
  16. What is the problem, if you are asked by a farmer to control geese damaging a crop 99% of people on here would jump at the chance.if birds shot are not wasted and they are not endangered good on them, a bit of envy I think .
  17. When to zero a rifle I picked up on Friday. As I was going to the farm I noticed pigeons crossing the motorway going on another of my perms. So when and had a look .good number on the stubble and birds coming in watched and picked my hide spot against a ditch side with the motorway at my back deeks out in front wind was right to left but three houses on my right so could not shoot that way.had birds crossing left to right wanting to go up wind so had some nice crossing birds to start as they were a bit wary at first after shooting games 6 or 7 birds I put them out as decoys, birds started to come in but a good few small packs after shooting one most of the others continue to the right so had to let them go because of the houses.single birds were not a problem as most came in front had just over 2 hours and picked 42 ,but lost 4 birds to the side of motorway. A good couple of hours and again started with statics on spring sticks. And no flapper or whirly.
  18. More birds flying as day wore on and combine on another farm plus good wind kept them moving. Shropshire Sam I let 1 bird land and shoot other birds coming in then take bird taking off. Not a crack shot more a **** shot at times.ha ha

  22. Have been looking at some stubble that was harvested this week ,first one a lot of crows walked them off waited 25 min not one came back as other fields were being harvested, went to another farm 60 or so pigeons on the field watched and had a weak flight line coming in so wind at my back set up on the stubble, put 16 she'll decoys on spring sticks a good wind had them moving nice birds committed from the off and I decided not to use a flapper as they decoyed perfect.it made a change to have no gadgets out shot some good birds and missed some easy one's had 7 right and lefts .as the day wore on the flight line got stronger, I picked 53 and lost 6 in over grown ditch.
  23. A lot of birds have been using a rape stubble off my boundary, have watched a few times to see if any were dropping in to some big laid patches on my perm.to day some birds feeding on them ,had to set up parallel to a busy road. Could not shoot to the right because of the road so a lot of birds went unshot.was very frustrating as a good bag was to be had if only I was able to shoot that way. As it was I made the best of things and only shot birds over the laid patch also let birds go when over the standing corn . Had 30 birds for my 3 hours and enjoyed it.
  24. Sorry to hear about your dog but some good sport to take yr and Tom mind off your loss.
