  1. I have just bought a box of Eley VIP Lightening steel 32g 2 shot. I have high hopes. I've been using Eley VIP Hyperspeed 4 shot and can't say I'm overly impressed.
  2. Anyone used one for spotting rabbits? Any good? What distances can rabbits be seen? Cheers.
  3. I use a Hoppes Bore Snake on my rimfire and 12G. No problems and they do the job.
  4. Yes, it was frozen, but hopefully have some fresh ones coming soon ? Yep, slow cooker is the next move I think.
  5. My Mrs cooked the first pheasant that I shot last night. It was roasted. Lovely recipe, tasted good, but tough as an old boot! The legs were the worst bit. I think the diagnosis was overcooking. Any other thoughts/tips? Cheers.
  6. I use a diver's goody bag which is basically a strong mesh drawstring sack. I attach a carabiner between one corner of the mesh and the drawstring and it goes across my shoulders. I like it because it folds down to pocket size, it's comfortable and can go in the washing machine after each trip.
  7. To be fair, he does eat everything, and in that sense, if the animal isn't protected, what difference does it make whether it's a snake, lizard, hare or deer? Anyway, hope the knife sale went smoothly ?
  8. Nice video. Thanks for posting. I'm interested in longer range 22LR rabbit shooting. Have you done any videos of shooting paper at that distance?
  9. Funny, I've got a CZ452 and briefly thought about changing it for a Lithgow. Just a thought, try some different ammo. I definitely had a bad batch of CCI subs at one point (which my rifle usually loves) and had similar problems.
  10. That's not the first time I've heard bad things about the Lithgow ?
  11. I have been doing some reading about this recently (yes, an armchair expert!). I have access to a farm which has a problem with wild goats, however the owner doesn't want noise from rifles scaring his stock, hence my interest. Obvious suggestions are 308 subsonic and 300BLK subsonic. There are a few issues with both from my point of view. On the 308 side, finding a rifle with a fast enough barrel twist rate to stabilise slow, heavy subsonic bullets is difficult. Also, finding factory 308 subsonic ammunition is virtually impossible where I live, and certainly nothing suitable for hunting. I don't reload, and it's not something I want to get in to right now. As for 300BLK, most guns are semiautomatic AR-style. I don't want one of these, preferring a bolt action. Options are limited. Where I live, it pretty much comes down to the Ruger Ranch Rifle or a Remington 700. Both of these guns have documented problems. Although factory subsonic 300BLK is common, rounds designed for hunting have been non-existent up until now. Hornady and Winchester have recently brought out something that might be suitable. Other rounds will not expand at subsonic speeds and are a ricochet risk, therefore have limited use for hunting. So, I have a limited choice of rifles and ammunition. There are issues with both and I may not even be able to get the ammunition, so have decided to wait until subsonic centrefire becomes more mainstream. There is a relatively large following here in NZ within the reloading community, so it probably isn't too far away. One last thing, the trajectory of subsonic bullets in these calibres is probably something like 22LR, so personally, I would limit myself to 100 metres for animal targets.
  12. Hi Mel. Are you still selling this nice stuff? You may have some more orders from NZ. Cheers.
  13. Good/bad. Not a bank holiday here, but it happened to be the weekend that duck season opened. Very few birds about and I missed a couple of easy shots, but did get a couple of difficult ones. Go figure as our American friends say. Came home with four birds after two days shooting. Pretty bad, but it was good being out.
  14. Well, you know what they say about opinions! BUT, I was asking for opinions, so that's OK.
  15. Thanks for the reply. I just wondered if NV was applicable to my style of rabbit shooting.
  16. I think there's a middle ground. Personally, I don't think a bit of light spinning gear with single hooks would be the end of the world. I would draw the line at bait fishing and ground bait though!
  17. That is impressive! That's not a problem. I'm thinking about the 100 yard shots that I'm working up to Thanks for all the other replies. All read and digested.
  18. I am aware of that. It does feel like I'm chasing my tail with this rimfire stuff sometimes! I read about a guy in Aussie who weighs all his rimfire ammo and batches them according to weight. Apparently, it is the Holy Grail of rimfire accuracy!
  19. A lot of people never, or rarely clean their rimfires it seems. Can't argue, I saw the difference myself today. For most of my rabbit shooting which is sub-50 metres, it doesn't really matter because I can get 1.5 inch groups with a clean barrel, but I want to push that distance out a bit, so then it will become more important.
