  1. Er...possibly! depending on the length and depth of the split and where it is on the gun. Some photos might be useful...It could be salvageable, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope! Splits are a very different kettle of fish to dents and scratches. You might be better looking for a second hand lightning stock. if you want to email me the pic go for it, but that doesn't sound too health i'm afraid! i'll drop you a pm with my email add
  2. Bird strike makes a lot of sense right now - short of any press releases. They were flying low over a bird reserve. If it spooked a flock of pinks, they'd just go straight up in a panicked cloud of feathers. I take your point Mr Sheen, but we're not talking about 1 goose. If some Pink-footed geese were roosting there, we could easily be talking talking hundreds of birds, it'd only take one in the right place
  3. That's what I've heard about the air Ranger 80. It's also right at the top of what the gun's internals are capable of, which doesn't help. Personally, I think the .25's best uses are sub 12 and short range. Massive trauma impact and much less danger of over penetration.
  4. no. so, what I do is not go around with hand guns and deal drugs...
  5. If it does need to be a Take Down Rifle, I'd look at the Gunpower range. I think they're all single shots, but they're dedicated TDR specialists, unlike the S410TDR, which was an afterthought to the standard S410. The other option might be a second hand Logun S16. they're multishot, but a serious lottery on whether you get a good one - and I don't know how you can limit the chances of that happening. someone on here might know more about the S16?
  6. Good shooting sir. agreed with the above, possibly not yorkie fodder...Although there are plenty of things that our two happily devour that would turn a human stomach! But no, I wouldn't deliberately feed them something like that.
  7. It's been windy! we're in Norfolk at the moment. It's been predominantly dry for the last couple of days - save the odd sudden shower - but on the whole, not too shabby during the day. Depends on what type of shooting you're into. It's been far too windy for air rifle shooting; strong wind coming in from the south west, although today it's shifted more north.
  8. that's fantastic! what a guy to shoot for!
  9. It's just along the road from where we're on holiday on the north coast. the weather's been good for the whole of the afternoon/evening, but suddenly extremely gusty. tragic way for some people's year to begin
  10. Good work evo! still waiting to get out on the fields myself, although being on holiday in Norfolk hasn't helped much...Great write-up and good shootin'
  11. He does shoot, so maybe he is on here somewhere...There's an amusing anecdote about him trying to shoot a fox that had been terrorising his chickens. the ingredients were a torch, a 12g shotgun and a bottle of merlot. As time and wine went by he finally got his chance, fired off both barrels and blew his wife's garden furniture to bits
  12. Salomon boots are only worth a look if you've got narrow feet. Some do leak, but you shouldn't have that problem if you go for a goretex lined boot - which I'd recommend if you're in Scotland! Salomon's insole is also seriously comfortable. they do ones that are properly moulded and supportive in the right area, which you don't get on every make. Also, go with Vibram soles. the rubber is much more long lasting than companies' own brand rubbers. Asolos and Berghaus are particularly poor for this - great tops, but lousy soles without the Vibrams. Other than that it's about what's most comfortable to you. If you're a size 8 and a 10 is comfortable, go for the 10! Personal preference for me would be Scarpas (if they fitted my feet!), especially the ZG65. I used to work in an outdoor shop and we sold more of those than any other boot - and never had a return. Avoid The North Face like the plague, one happy day at work I sat on the floor and pulled one to bits to see how easy it was. The glue came away from the leather pieces and the stitching pulled out. It's not just the one type, either! They're just not in the same league as other brands! I wear Mammut boots, I have a comparatively wide foot, but a narrow heal, so those are all that fit me, but they are brilliant, so if you find some of the cheaper ones, I'd certainly look at them! All the best with the search
  13. Ah i thought it was a second time round. 'Written and Presented by Jeremy Clarkson'. I wish he'd do more decent stuff like this - the silliness of Top Gear is fine in small doses, but he's capable of so much more.
  14. And, as a useless (non!)tit-bit, it's the only bird that descends vertically down a tree. even the aptly named tree creeper doesn't do that.
  15. BBC2 right now. very promising start indeed! Completely divorced from the Top Gear nonsense
  16. This is what frustrates me about the RSPB. I'm a keen birdwatcher and their reserves are excellent. I'd love to be a member and support their conservation work, but their militancy with which they go about their public appeals and chastisement of every gamekeeper in the country totally puts me off. Yup. That was a huge mistake. Down here there are hundreds of the things because people were encouraged to support the reintroduction programme. Now they're aggressive and demanding - to the point where there have been incidents of picnics being disrupted by grabbing kites!
  17. I have never seen someone commit so whole-heartedly to shooting themselves in the foot! My R10, running at 11.4 ft/lb with JSB exacts would produce 4.9ft/lb of energy @ 75yds, and I'm sorry, but i just don't believe that's enough. It's a superbly accurate gun, and with a tench reg it's extremely consistent, but you're talking a huge drop even with a ,177; the margin for error is massive. Now though, your attitude would be the biggest thing stopping anyone wanting to shoot with you. No one should assume a God-given right to shooting permissions. They're hard to get hold of because, when it comes to guns, people need to know you're responsible and not going to endanger anyone or anything on their land. In the absence of knowing you face to face, numbers of posts and the quality of those posts is the best barometer available to people...
  18. i imagine it's a case of taking off the short barrel shroud (grub screws?) and replacing it with a slip on silencer, with the aid of a slip on adapter, however demonwolf's right, a decent silencer will only go so far and will do very little to soften the noise of the action. A bit of fettling and tuning by someone who knows what they are doing would do more to reduce the noise
  19. I can't :( the first FA cup final i remember with any great vividness was the 1994 win for Man Utd over Chelsea. That wasn't too bad - 9 of the 14 United were british, with a couple of Irish boys amongst the other 5. but after that, and even with the lower teams, there's a huge number of foreign players in their ranks
  20. This time 3 years ago when England could actually play cricket! Seriously though, I'd love to go back to 2 places: I'd follow the Napoleonic Wars right through, including the sea battles and the mild, unsanctioned skirmishes in India, and ending with Waterloo. In my opinion, this should really be called the First World War! Secondly, It'd have to be Africa in the very early 20th Century, when it was much more a place of real adventure.
  21. no. If you consistently underperformed in every area of your work, in any other profession, you'd be sacked. Stokes and Broad can come away with their heads held high, the rest should be fined and the money given to those fans who paid colossal amounts of money to watch them.
  22. as every coach will tell you. Consistency in form is the key, and you can't argue with the fact that we've been superbly consistent!
  23. well played that man! They've been playing like a few of the players have taken those odds as well...
  24. spot on. people are going to need way more info than it's got a river. What trees is it made up of would help for starters. Is there much human traffic near it - dog walkers and the like? how dense is the wood? All this would help if you do genuinely want to know if what you're proposing is actually possible. If you think the concerns being raised here are unnecessarily objectionable, just wait until your FEO comes to assess the land for a deer cleared FAC rifle...
