  1. Nice condition .22 air rifle, could be early german, quite heavy at 6 lbs but very accurate, anyone interested please pm me anytime , thanks alan.
  2. thanks for those, morghew is too far away but very reasonably priced, the other two are a bit expensive on my pension but I will keep looking and asking, maybe I will get lucky with the local farmers, you never know. thanks alan
  3. ANY PW MEMBERS KNOW OF ANY PIGEON SHOOTING SOLD ON A ONE DAY BASIS in Norfolk, I have a small field of wheat which I shoot a couple of times a month but its too small to go on a more regular basis, I would like to find some rape or good decoy land where I can just pay for a day when I am able to get out, full BASC membership, insurance and all my own kit, sensible and safe gun, thanks Alan.
  4. We have several hundred on the rape every morning just outside the village, there have also been a lot on some newly ploughed fields up the road, even before they have been drilled, trouble is once you disturb them they clear off and dont come back for the rest of the day, I tried decoying on some winter wheat but they just flew over really high, I think someone told them I have a big gun, trouble is I cant hit the side of a barn so even if they come in close they probably wont come to any harm.
  5. Hi welcome , Im a norfolk member as well just getting back into the sport, my two sons left a long while ago thankfully, but the older one used to shoot a lot, so when he moved to the usa he gave me his guns, which set me up for some more sport, bless him. we all used to fish as well but now its just me and the wife, when its not too cold, best of luck, alan
  6. I have taken all your advice and contacted the local clay club, just waiting for details and im there, looking foward to trying it out. thanks all, alan
  7. Whilst living in new zealand a few years back I hunted with a .22 sportco (australian rifle) semi auto with a ten shot mag, I used high velocity ammo and regularly knocked over rabbits with head shots at 100 yards +, I used to set up the scope sights at 140 yards on a bean can and hit it 9 times out of 10. It was necessary to use a solid rest but at that range there was always plenty of time to get sighted., great days, alan
  8. simply pack up the existing ceiling joists with long lengths of timber until you are at the height of the insulation, then board out with chipboard flooring at right angles to the joists, special loft flooring chipboard with jointed edges are cheap enough in packs at b and q as are the joist timbers, remember do not be tempted to nail anything as the vibration will loosen ceiling plaster fillings in screw heads etc, just screw it all together for max strength. dont forget to wear a mask and goggles is you have fibreglass insulation or you will suffer, best of luck, ex property developer from france, now retired thank god, regards alan.
  9. Exactly so, years back on a shoot in nottingham the pigeons were coming in all day in their hundreds, very high winds were keeping them low and easy targets, but the one I remember came over very high going downwind like a bat out of hell, my dog saw it first and I had just a second or two to get the shot in, instinct took over and I bullseyed it with one barrel, it was dead but kept going for over 50 yards out into the rape but the dog found it no problem, it was just that one that I always remember, not how many we took. great days .
  10. Thirty years ago I used to shoot every chance I got, with thousands of acres and facing literally thousands of pigeons I became a really good shot, well I thought I was anyway, average was two birds with every three shots. Then demands from family and work took over and the shooting dropped off, until finally a long distance house move meant no permissions, so I sold the guns and let the licence lapse. so in October this year, following illness and early retirement and looking for something to do my wife suggested why not get back into your shooting, I didn't need telling twice, after a visit to the local police to get the lowdown on licence etc I got the application in and waited, the licence arrived two weeks ago so I quickly found a nice o/u beretta at a good price, 250 hull pigeon 6's from the local shop and waited for the right conditions. So today the sun shone, the wind was very light and I had a small field of winter wheat to set up on, A dozen shell decoy laid out text book style, 3 lofters in the trees behind me and a comfortable hide took no time to achieve and brought back so many memories plus that expectant buzz I remembered . Back in the hide I took the gun out of its slip removed the caps and dropped it two of the hull 6's, sat back and waited, Just ten minutes gone and floating across the field came the first bird, I stood up lifted the beretta and flicked the safety off, the pigeon crossed right to left at about 80 yards, swung in behind a large oak tree and reappeared 6 feet off the ground going left to right over the decoys at about 25 yards, I could hear my own heartbeat, I brought the gun in from behind the bird and swung through, just allowing a small lead and fired, a cloud of white appeared behind the bird but it just wriggled and carried on flying, angry with the miss I swung into it again to give it the second barrel but as I went to take the shot the barrel made contact with a small tree to my right stopping the swing as I pulled the trigger, the shot went behind the bird and I could only stand and watch as it flew off over a nearby wood, I swore under my breath and reloaded, pushed the safety on and sat down, but just moments later I looked up to see about twenty plus birds coming straight in about 40 feet high, once again I lifted the beretta, pushed the safety to off and drew a bead on the lead bird, now head on shots were never my favorite but I gave it both barrels and missed by a mile, I watched as they all scattered. From then on it just went from bad to worse, high birds passed me by, several crows went over at about 50 feet but even with both barrels the result was the same, nothing, By lunch I was feeling the cold so collected all the decoys ,dismantled the hide and took the long way back to the van round the top of the field, on the far side of the field is a small rabbit warren and I had seen movement while in the hide so thought I would check it out, sure enough sitting just 30 yards out in the open is a big fat bunny enjoying the sun, I switched to the half choke ,took aim and let rip, expecting the bunny to roll over, but no, it just jumped in the air about 3 feet as the shot tore into the ground underneath it, the ran off into the warren, So whats next, well I think its back to school for me, if there is anyone in east norfolk you can recommend , let me know. meanwhile I better buy a blunderbuss and a few pounds of nails .
  11. Hi all, just getting started again after a 30 year break , I would like to find a clay club in Norfolk, as near to North Walsham as possible, nr12 , or perhaps share costs with someone who has a clay thrower and somewhere to use it, also keen to make contact with anyone into pigeon shooting in the area, regards Alan .
  12. HI, I have just started again after a 30 year break, I have the gun, the licence and insurance, if possible I would like to come along to the shoot to take part , maybe pick up some tips, help etc, never been to an organised clay event before as I used to shoot game and pigeon, Ive been looking for a club to join near home , Walcott norfolk, but so far no luck, regards Alan Robinson
  13. I drove back up from ipswich on friday heading to great yarmouth on the A12, the woods were full of birds, and lots out feeding on the fields, some on rape but a lot on the ivy trees, I have not had time to get out since christmas but looking foward to a few hours this week if the snow melts, I just stick a few decoys up in the trees and set up the hide near enough to catch them coming in for a look, A .22 air rifle is all I have but its great fun outwitting them, its a lot slower than when I used to blast away with the 12 gauge over in nottinghamshire, but as an elderly shooter I find its as much as I need to keep my hand in, besides theres nothing as exciting as watching them float into the tree right in front of me while I get them in the crosshairs, and I only need a few for a decent pie filling.
  14. hey steady on , I was born in wiltshire but now live by choice in norfolk, the people are so friendly and the county has to be one of the best ive ever seen, i love my fishing and boating so the broads are perfect, ive recently been thinking about getting back into a bit of pigeon shooting , sold my gun about 30 years ago, family commitments and all that, but ive kept my eye in with a bit of airgunning, i have joined the forum with the hope of making contact with a few like minded people in the area, so anyone out there, im away in spain till mid march awaiting the arrival of another grandchild, but anytime after that, or just an on line chat, anyway for me its thumbs up for norfolk
