  1. I think you are making a way big deal out of a pair of toy guns. (realistically, thats what they are). Get on and do your movie with them somewhere out of public veiw, but theres really no need to contact the police about it. If you do, things will just get complicated... They will probably ask for a reenactment permit etc, my advice... Dont go there. Let us know when the film is done, could be interesting.. I often though of making a short film with some of the guns and gear I use for my hobbies.. Would beat 90% of the youtube ones!
  2. You obviously dont know the true conection someone can get with their car/bike :o I miss my Kawasaki, one of only 7 in the uk, should never have sold it.
  3. You eill never get a gun completley silent. I know a few specialist firearms that will be VERY quiet once set up properly, but not inaudible. Ammunition itself is the key to the amount of noise produced. You will need to use subsonic cartridges to make any real benefit from the moderator. Thats the only way you will get a 60% reduction in the noise level. (if that!) Looks like a nice setup, enjoy it!
  4. He lucky he didnt get sent back to his makers let alone the country he comes from. Well done to the police for not having to take any shots. If he was shot here, there would be public outcry and investigations taking months, yet in America it would just be another day..
  5. Have a very nice day Mrs Sweepy! make it a day to remember.
  6. ''Because he can'' Its useful as Nick says for multiple jobs at once
  7. The one and only the best... HK USP .45, with silencer etc. You can chuck your revolvers and Glocks into the metal scrap bin B)
  8. Got to say injuries like that are usually fatal. Striking the intestines or stomach and leaking bacteria into the bloodstream, along with the open wound, even if they do stop the bleeding he could pass due to infection. (toxic shock). I hope he finds the physical and mental strength to pull through this.
  9. To be honest I think I have learnt a lot more about guns from using this forum and meeting the people who use it, then I have from the BASC course. And it was cheaper. You could always do the safety course but I dont know how much you will benifit from the BASC course as I hear its quite basic stuff. If you have qeustions, ask them on this forum, theres a lot of good knowledge here from varius members.
  10. Damn wish I was there  Im sure you had a good time! that fox looks very.. frozen. Did you need an angle grinder to get it off the front?
  11. Looking good! We must get out shooting sometime again. I havent used the guns in ages, they got a propper clean including the barrels, I even oiled the barrels as I know I probably wont be using them for a while unless I sort out some shoots sometime. Lab, its a .222, very good rifle for the money not one problem with it.
  12. Trust its dangerous because people have no clue how to handle this weather with their vehicles (well most). Its alright for us outdoors type people who have offroad experiance etc.. But a lot of city people have serious crashes because they drive normal speeds in poor conditions. If you have connections with the emergancy serices you will know that this is a tough time for them. I have had to stop now for 3 accidents in two days, (see previous thead probably buried now). Luckily no one was hurt, I was able to confirm this with a police officer the following day. But the cars were quite mangeled in two cases. Snow/ice/flooding are never a good thing... Mother natures way of reminding us who is and always will be in charge.

    Hi People

    Seriously guys...
  14. Hope you had a good birthday Mike!
  15. Hmmm the translation does not make sense... Translation: Registrar sell a truckload of Cantering of dollars. Owner the cost of production of the price. What is the profit for
  16. Dead weight can be very diffcult to free from a trapped position. And giving the animal the decency to die in a more natural position isnt a bad thing either. Providing things can be done without extra pain caused to the animal. Just my opinion..
  17. I hate it when the emergancy services missuse their rights to get to a scene fast. Is one suspected suicide victim scene worth the risk of taking a life or causing a serious accident? causing even more emergancy services to blue light? each blue light dash is a dangerous procedure. I understand it needs to be done, but I dont think its right to misuse it for the adrenaline rush. There are many safer options, driving must always be taken seriously including emergancy services drivers. If they have to slow down a bit to significantly reduce the risks, its probably worth while in the long run. Retained firefighters etc all have to be able to respond to a turn out within 5 minutes (driving to the station under civillian limitations) as accidents have happend. It doesnt matter how well you train to drive a response vehicle, race car, etc.. You cant be in control of physics and nature. But you can definetly reduce the risk of either affecting your road safety. And for the sake of stopping a family being torn apart, its worth driving a little slower, sticking to the limmits.. Even if the local chav in his Metro etc behind you is giving you all the finger and arm gestures out the window because you are holding him up.
  18. Today I attended two serious vehicle crashes, both luckily being dealt with properly by the emergancy services but I still stopped to offer assistance. One vehicle has a very likely fatality and the other accident scene (I stumbled appon it on the diversion route I chose) saw two vehicles off the road, one just missing some sign posts. A few nights ago a family friend (firefighter) was killed on a road near me. All accidents have been caused by ice on the roads, and not only careless driving. Chris who was killed at the RTC following a collision due to ice, was struck by a vehicle driven by a police officer. Both passenger Chris's gf, and police officer are suffering broken bones. Please drive carefully, and double check you first aid kits are stocked up. I carry a pretty hefty kit (trained to use it) and thermal blanket etc as people are getting hurt out there. Thoughts go out to the families whos weekend plans have been shattered by the worst kind of news. Lets do our bit to prevent any more, by driving cautiously and being awaree of the hazards invloved with poor weather conditions. 12.03AM - waiting on a friend in the operations office (East Sussex Fire&Rescue HQ) for an update of the serious accident, as a lot of good friends of mine use this road daily to work.

Here we go for the age old debate...
  20. Somebody actually read it?  Not homeloading myself, I shoot a .222 rifle (my Tikka) when I get the chance that is.. and it runs very well off factory loads, the good stuff that is. Im spending about 80-90p a pop, and with the low amount of shots I do (average 1 shot per month, seriously!) I cant justify the investment of reloading gear at the moment. But as soon as I have the the permision and time il be back to shooting again. Lastt time I used the .222 was in August '08, last time I used the .22lr is about 3 weeks ago on a fox call out. I have some forensic experiments comming up which I will be conducting with a Forensics student in a few weeks involving realistic ballistics gel models as part of a university study he is doing, I will run the experiment with him, including building the models. Theres also a few other exciting things lined up such as opening a safe (heavy duty one at that) but I wont spoil the details yet. Hope you are all well, I dont post here much latley as I got a bit put off for a while due to a certain few muppets. But I tend to post when things are stable, I still have a read through about once a day Cheers
  21. This is probably the most honest decent qeustion I have seen in a long time. A very good qeustion which a lot of budding Ballistic newbies like myself can learn from. I will try to explain the factors that affect accuracy, and what makes a consitant group. Accuracy in the world of ballistics is just another word for consistancy. Consistancy as far as groups go, means that you are placing each bullet in the same place with each shot, without having to adjust you POA (Point of Aim). You can could be the worlds best marksman, and still not acheive one hole groups because of the follwing issues that I will attempt to list. Lets imagine you have a gun on a fix tripod bolted to the floor. The gun is bolted to the tripod, and you are shooting at 100m. The first shot is a bull. The second shot however is ne inch high, to the right. Why, if my gun is fixed to a tripod with no human input shooting and inconsistant group? Well the answer is in the wind.. Litterly! The slightest amount of wind pressure on the bullet will cuase a distubance in the bullets areodynamics causing instability. But there are other factors too, plenty of them infact... Are the bullets all the same consistant weight? In our examples case the bullet was a factory moulded bullet shich happened to be lighter by only a fraction due to mould tolerance being out. If the bullet was the same weight as the previous round, sureley it would have a closer trajectory? This depends on other factors. Each bullet (we are talking factory ammunition here) is loaded with a specific weight of powder. This is extremely important in accuracy. The ncrease or decrease in powder weights would affect the elevation POI (Point of Impact) because having mor powder in the cartridge would increase the explosive volume of gas which would increase the muzzel velocity, or speed of the bullet, which in turn reduces the affect of gravity on the bullet causing it to land on the target higher. (Logically the opposit for a reduced weight of powder). ''But why is my gun still not producing one-hole groups''?, well there are other things that can cause group sizes to increase. For instance the 100m target is an outdoor target, and your rifle is a wooden stocked sporting rifle. It is raining heavily. A likely and very common problem here is that the stock of your gun, since becoming drenched in rain, and heated by the barrel from previous shots has begun to expand. Underneath the barrel the stock has begun to expand enough to place pressure on the barrel forcing it upwards with a suprisingly large amount of force. Just a tiny amount of pressure is enough to force your barrel upwards causing the POI to change even if your POA is exactly the same. We could also bring in the factor of barrel Harmonics. This is the radiance of energy shockwaves through the metal matiriel of the barrel istelf each time you fire the gun. Imagine hitting a large sheet of steel with a hammer. Loud eh? this is caused by energy being released from the metal in the form of shockwaves into soundwaves. Soundwaves excluded (we all know guns are loud!) the shockwaves play a big role in accuracy. Left un-interupted, the shockwaves will run their course around the barrel pretty much the same way every time you take the shot. But if your stock begins to apply pressure to the barrel, the course of the shockwaves will be changed, causing the barrel to react differently to the energy being released through it. Imagine slow motion the barrel actually flexing (it does!) due to this energy. So making sure your stock is not touch (and will not) touch the barrel is very important. Sand away the matiriel and get plenty of clearance if you can Make sure the round of ammunition you use are of a consistant quality, this is why many users eventually load their own ammunition. And ensure every shot you make is consistant by using the same or similar methods for each shot. No gun in this world will ever shoot 100% consistant groups, ever. There are just too many factors in Physics that cause inconsistancy. But what makes you a better shot, is to learn what affects your accuracy, and to take advantage of the possibilities to prevent inconsistancy. Its down to you to find out what works best for you, and when you find what works for you, dont stop there. There will always be room for improvement. If in this world it is humanly impossible to acheive 100% accuracy, there is the oppertunity to almost infinatley improve your groups as you learn to comabt the adverse effects of physics on your consistancy. I hope this makes sense? I apologise for any spelling errors Cheers.
  22. Mung is a Solicitor, not a Lawyer, but definetly worth contacting him for advice on getting into the game. With the amount of cost investment into training to be a Solicitor or Lawyer I would be unsure about taking a min wage job, although its a starting poin, you have to make sure you dont get screwed over by your employer.. (or 'used'). Good luck with your future work, take time and choose carefully. The credit crunh is not all its cranked up to be, and there are loads of jobs out there, just make sure you take the time and put the effort in, to get the most suitable options for you.
