  5. 2015 Season: AVAILABLE DATES 25/28 September 19/20 November 5/6/7 January 200 birds for up to 10 guns mixed pheasants and partridges. Available for whole teams and not individuals The Elton Estate shoot is a long established and very well run family shoot in the East Midlands, to the West of Peterborough, near Oundle in Northamptonshire. The shoot comprises about 3,000 acres straddling the Cambs/Northants border. The estate is in a compact block with Elton Hall, a grade 1 listed country house, at the centre. The land comprises a mixture of arable and grass with over 500 acres of woodland. The estate has in the past won the Bledisloe medal for landowners and a number of forestry prizes. The shoot is a mixture of partridges and pheasants. The earlier days in October being mainly partridges and the later days mainly pheasants. The partridges are shown from strategically positioned cover crops (mainly maize), which make the best use of the topography of the land. The contours are ideal for partridge shooting with gently undulating hills and hollows. Pheasants are shown from cover crops (usually driven back to the woods) and from the woods. There are duck by the river and woodcock in December and January. Days are either hosted by the owner or by a very experienced shoot manager who knows the shoot intimately. A hearty lunch and tea are provided in the newly refurbished Old Billiard Room at Elton Hall. Transport is either in the estate Gun Bus or in guests own transport depending on their preference. Lunch can either be in the middle of the day or guests can shoot through if they prefer. Bags are from 150 upwards, depending on guests preference and experience up to a maximum of 350 birds in the day. The Head keeper, Nicky Smith has worked on the estate for many years and worked very closely with the late keeper Stewart White, who was a well known local character. Every effort is made to make an enjoyable day for everybody and all standards of shot are welcome. A loader is provided for young or inexperienced shots at an agreed cost. There are many beautiful views over the surrounding countryside around Elton. References are available and many of our guests have been coming back for many years. The location is excellent being only three miles from the A1 and 20 minutes from Peterborough station which is 50 minutes from Kings Cross, London. Please message me or email office@eltonhall.com if you have a genuine enquiry. Many thanks
