  1. Yesterday afternoons work on some recently cut rape Also on monday I was try to make some spring sticks using steel banding, (good results even my visitor thought so)
  2. Cheers Guys, Of to the local gunsmith this weekend to see what his opinion is
  3. Went out at the weekend with the new sillo socks and hydra flappers. Set-up right under the flights line between t fields of rape which I know they are feeding on but the rape in too high decoy (they are feeding off the fringes). After 1 hour no shots fired as the birds where jinking as soon as they saw my pattern. Took the rotary down and within 15 mins had my first bird land directly in the middle of decoys. It was a steady afternoon with more birds missed that shot. (Total of 20 birds for an afternoons work). Maybe the hydra flapper will work better in a stronger wind. Anyway packing up and marching back to my car heavily laden with all the kit, I slipped over on a bramble root and I don’t know how but landed on my back (My gun was in a slip across my back) . I heard a loud crack of wood splitting. I though it was a branch so I carried on home. At home cleaned my shotgun as usual but noticed a hairline split in the stock , the split starts from the trigger guard almost splitting the stock in half. The split also appear on the top starting at the finish of the safety but the crack appear to be spilt over a few grains of wood I would not be too bother but is has left a small gap next to the sideplates, which will allow dirt to enter the trigger mechanism. And I am sure will cause further damage. Can it be repaired or I am look at a new stock ? Any advise about getting this repaired would be appreciated. Bettinsoli Diamond line sporter 12g O/U I cannot even find a bettinsoli web site.
  4. Glued an old 'flat pack' hole fillers, just like a biro top. 5 cm from the top. The glue some silicon tubing, makes it alot easier to push and pull the stake into the ground. Put some tubing inside the silosock to make a 'snug' fit to the stakes. Hopefully they will prolong the life of them. They work OK in the garden but not been much wind about today so will try them out at the weekend

  7. Got mine hypa-flaps today, Informed Shootwarehouse of a slight manufacturing defect but I am sure they will fix that. You now get 2 sets of wing spurs, Black for normal winds and brown for stong/blustery. Just hope the weekend weather is good for decoying on some rape. Let you knoe how I get on.

  9. I am shooting a 12G using Eley 32grm HB Pigeon. A friend also suggest I start using Gambore clear pigeon 30grms, as these will have a lower re-coil. Thanks for your tip
  10. Having shot for 3 days in a row, My shoulder is sore. I know some is caused by me mounting the gun incorrectly but even so Anybody used any home made recoil pads or purchased the browning reactor pad ?

  14. BASC extract from WWW Woodpigeon Shooting A Code of Practice The Woodpigeon (Columba palumbus) is both Britain's major agricultural bird pest and one of the most popular sporting quarry species. It is legal to shoot the bird all the year round. The Woodpigeon makes good eating and provides nourishing cheap food. PIGEON SHOOTING AND THE LAW Woodpigeon shooting is controlled by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 in Britain and the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 in Northern Ireland. Woodpigeons may be killed or taken by authorised persons at all times. It is strictly prohibited to use any sound recording or live bird as a decoy. Currently woodpigeon shooting continues under an open general licence issued by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions for England and Wales, the Scottish Office Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries Department for Scotland and the Environment and Heritage Service for N. Ireland. No individual application is required for any licence. In Britain the shooting of Collared Doves (Streptopelia decaocto) and the feral pigeon (Columba livia) is also permitted all year round but the Stock Dove (Columba oenas), Rock Dove (Columba livia) and Turtle Dove (Streptopelia turtur) are all protected species and may not be shot at any time. In N. Ireland the Collared Dove is protected and no pigeons can be shot either at night or on Sundays. The legality of shooting pigeons in Scotland on Sundays remains unclear. The Stock Dove is often mistakenly called the 'Blue Rock' and great care must be taken as these birds often fly with woodpigeons and come readily to decoys. The feral pigeon is a direct descendent of the Rock Dove (which is usually only found on western coasts), and will be mainly seen close to urban areas. Note: wild-living, former racing and homing pigeons often fly with feral pigeons but these birds are strictly protected. Whilst they normally have leg rings to show their ownership, identification in the field can be difficult so, if in doubt, do not shoot. Link to BASC web site that is very good reading http://www.basc.org.uk/content/woodpigeonpractice
  15. Thanks guys, I will leave it alone for a while, tonight kill rate was down to 5
  16. Sorry for being dim but... how do i flock the arms ?
  17. Out decoying the other day using my 'new' magnet, over some clover. Did not get a sniff all afternoon yet I know they have been feeding on as I have been watching it for a few weeks. Then as the sun got lower a noticed the square arms of the rotor where reflecting the sun light. Could this be the cause, My initial thought was camo tape but does anybody have any other suggestions
  18. Sorry guys what i meant to say by roost shooting I mean in flight to the roosting site in between 2 woods
  19. I current have got a very good roosting site, which on a good day I can bag 10 – 15 birds in a 2 hour stint. My question is how often should I shoot there, currently I visit twice a week. How long does to take for pigeons to become wise and move on to another roost ?
  20. 20:30 till 21:30 hit 6 at a roosting site, Opened up one to have a look what they are feeding on. Looks like they have started attacking the rape. and lots small very green seeds (any ideas?)
  21. I use custom silicon ear plug, Got them at the Newbury Show last Sept. Cannot remember how much I paid, but they are the most confortable one i've ever used.
