  1. Well i dont think hes gonna miss much with that, but on the odd occassion he does he could always poke the rabbits eye out with the scope lol. that looks one hell of a set up. lucky lad. Good luck to him, hope he has many happy times shooting with it.
  2. The defender has its downsides, but i would call that character. i can only comment on what i saw at the time, am sure they are good with the right tyres however you can only put certain types of tyres on them due to the speed ratings. whereas i can put more aggressive tyres on my defender which means i will go further then most people. its horses for courses the defender fits with me perfectly whereas some people like speed and comfort lol. nice pic by the way, shows what land rover can do. all the best Charlie
  3. Thanks guys, good to know for the future. the chap was towing a trailer across a field with about 4 inches of snow. he slid sideways down the hill and couldn't get away from the fence. so got a good old defender to tow him out and i hitched the trailer up to my defender and towed that out. nothing beats a defender lol. thanks again. charlie
  4. Hi guys, Just a quick question for all/any of the disco 3 drivers out there. Does the disco 3 have any front recovery points? was pulling one out of a field yesterday but couldn't find a recovery point or even a tie down point at the front. just wondering if i missed it or if it doesn't have one? would seem a bit stupid not to have anything at the front. Thanks. Charlie
  5. would be intrested if you had more info. where are they please, and do you have any pics of the parents. thanks. charlie
  6. if i were you i would consider getting some steel modulars, they look great and are stronger then the alloys especially if your going offroad with it. i know alot of offroad guys use the mach 5's but i have heard a few bad things about them with trying to get them balanced, aparantly they arn't great on road. and well done thats a lovely truck, im pretty sure you won't be dissapointed. just my 2 pence. all the best charlie
  7. Hi everyone. thank you very much for all your help and suggestions, i have read through them and tried various different things while testing it today. from the looks of it, it is soot/oily substance which is being blown back into the barrel after shooting, which then effects the poi. i am going again tomorrow to try a different round using a different and hopefully cleaner powder in order to see if i get the same amount of soot coming back into the barrel. so it may well not be the moderator but as the moderator won't strip down you can't clean it making this a harder process. thanks again for all advice. charlie
  8. thing is there isn't much consistancy even after 5 or 10 shots, also i am a big believer in a clean rifle, to prevent fouling etc. the gun was factory screwcut. but i will ask my mate if i can borrow his mod today and see the results. thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated. charlie
  9. Hi Guys, was hoping some of you may be able to help. i have a 223 which up till now i have shot without a moderator, i decided because of the noise mainly that i ought to shoot with a mod. so after a long chat with gun shop and a few people it was decided i would get a pes scout. i have now tried 2 and both haven't been very good. the groups arn't great but also the shots keep climbing higher and higher after the first shot. i have tried cleaning the gun, ensuring the moderator is on tight enough, where i could get a half inch group at 150 yrds without the mod i now struggle to hit a 4 inch group and it has lifted so high it missed the target completely ( there was a very safe backstop so was still safe). you cannot strip the scout down to clean it properly and it leaves alot of soot/oily substance on the thread of the rifle which appears to go in around an inch in the muzzle, we cleaned this off after every shot for 5 shots and the groups where better but i cannot do this when trying to lamp etc, and tbh cleaning a rifle after every single shot is no good to anyone trying to shoot vermin. i then put a group out without cleaning and the group scattered and lifted again. i am quite experianced with shooting and understand that 1st shot after cleaning can move the round off target, but even after 3 or 4 rounds they still climb and scatter I was wondering if anyone had any similar problems or knew of anyone else who has had problems with this mod. i am thinking about changing the mod to a wildcat, i don't like the ace mods so does anyone have reviews on the wildcat. thanks for any help or suggestions. Charlie
  10. i wouldn't get your hopes up mate. we have a few fields of oats here every year and have never even botherd shooting over it. the pigeons just don't seem to like it. i would be very surprised if any pigeons around you went for them but personally i would keep an eye on your wheat. just my opinion maybe someone else has had a bit of luck. just none down here. atb charlie
  11. another vote here for the tom tick remover thing from the vets. i have to deal with loads of ticks through the year between me and the dogs and it always works, its painless, its quick and its almost impossible to leave any of the tick in the skin. well worth 3 quid!
  12. from the last couple of threads where i have seen ur posts you have been as bout as usefull as a glass hammer. just simply being rude to those who disagree with you and your opinions. it may sadden you to know that their opinions are just as important as yours. so maybe having a bit more respect would be a better idea. And you knew exactly what i meant by that phrase. i do spend most of my time either in the field or with my nose in books or on the internet researching this stuff. which is why i dont take it lightly when called an armchair masterbating walt.
  13. i have not said i am the most experianced shot. i said that i spend more time in the field then most others on here put together. however i put effort into what i do so i can be a very experianced shot. and if you feel the need to make personal attacks about my english feel free. i may not be the best at reading/writing and typing and tbh i dont give a ****. but well done to once again reducing the tone of thread to persoanl insults. that seems to some up most of the posts you put on here.
  14. i wasn't referring to you chap. i was reffuring to others who have been replying to the thread.
  15. I know what a lot of rounds do however am still learning and am happy to admit that i won't stop learning about these things untill i die. thats because i want to learn, unlike those who think that as long as the round comes out the end and can hit a 2' taget at a hundred yards they will be fine shooting anything. and please stop adding silly bits to your post trying to make it longer and trying to offend. its doesn't matter how well i type or the syntax used. and your right to a certain degree however maybe there is a reason why you missed the vital organs, yes i know that everyone misses at some point but sometimes there are bigger reasons as to why a miss has occured, and i explore the possiblities so that next time i can hopefully avoid the same thing happening.
  16. i won't waste my time by responding to such an immature statement. either discus it maturely or dont bother at all. i am not an armchair shooter i spend more time in the field then most on here do put together. just because you dont want to learn about different rounds/velocities/damage/distance as i do does not make it wrong. i like to know as much as i possibly can on a subject so i know what will happen when i pull the trigger. and also which is most likely to provide a more confident kill, in different conditions. and the whole dead is dead thing is ok to a certain extent however when things don't die quickly and humanely you need to know why. and that could be down to the round, or many other conditions. yes i can do most of the stuff myself and do do that however its gd to talk and gain a better understanding through talking/seeing what happens with everyone else as well.
  17. well i think we should make the sporting pics section the same as the video section so that only members can see it. i know this won't stop all the antis from seeing it however i do belive that it would stop a few and they wouldnt know its there if they can't see it. however i think these pics can be very educational... no i dont mean pics of hundreds of little rabbits blown to pieces from 10 yrds with a 223... but for example the damage different rounds do to quarry at different ranges. the trouble is if we ban showing gory pics then we can't learn what happens with different situations and quarry etc. i understand y we shouldn't try to upset people who maybe dont like this but there is a line. i mean how long before we have to stop talking about days out because the antis don't like us going out. maybe we should all stop using the words like 'killed' 'dead' 'blood' and just keep to telling stories about fluffy lambs playing in the field on a lovely sunny day. please don't get me wrong respect for the quarry is still of the upmost importance Just my opinions Charlie
  18. the majority of the rabbits where head shot so there is nothing wrong with it. if u dont like to look at this kinda thing then don't. but for goodness sake stop trying to stop everyone else from seeing it. i have no issues with this kinda thing and actually find it intresting what different calibers do to different quarry. i agree respect should be shown and you shouldnt waste good meat however the amount of people i have heard on here who say when they shoot rabbits with the 22 or a 17 and just leave them where they lie, this is just as bad as blowing one to bits IMO. good shooting chap. don't stop these kinda posts if people don't like it then they dont have to look. charlie
  19. I looked into spacers for my freelander and as far as im aware you can only get 2 inch spacers for them, which sit on top of the suspension strut i think so they only lift the body work up so you will have to get larger tyres or you wont increase your ground clearance. i have a set of 215/75/15 bfg muds on mine it has increase the clearance a fair bit. i didnt think it was worth putting a lift on it so i could fit the next size tyre on it. you wont be gaining that much clearance. you will still have issues. tbh its just a case of being carefull. underbody protection would do you more use then the lift imo. a heavy duty sumpguard and maybe some rockslidders would be the best bet. mantec sump guards come up on ebay every now and then about £100 the lifts are fairly expensive for not alot of extra clearance. how 'offroad' are you intending on going? i cope not too bad and follow defenders around at the weekends around the shoot. however they do make ruts so i just have to straddle them. u get the occasional bit you can't so you have to work a way round it, thats the fun of offroading. and the freelanders are fantastic offroad, just a shame they dont have the same ground clerance as its big brothers. Charlie.
  20. have just filled mine with soft builders sand. cost £2 for a pretty big bag, and is perfect as a rifle rest, alot of people use sand bags to shoot off, which is why i filled mine with it. however it is pretty heavy. and is messy when trying to fill the bag with it lol. not tried the other stuff so i cant compare it tho.
  21. Well i recieved mine through the post this morning. thanks very much chap. am hoping to get it sorted it out tonight and maybe use it later in the week will post some pics hopefully so those who arnt sure about them can see how gd they are. thanks again m8 Charlie
