  4. Hi Frank, unfortunately us humans are in trouble (not because of badgers) TB was pretty much eradicated in the uk by the end of the 1950's due to inoculation programmes. Immigration is actually the biggest cause of general TB spread in the UK. Many other countries carry out chest screening on immigrants to reduce the risk. TB is treatable in humans but has a stigma attached to it. I am not a raving extremist lefty/rightly or other wise politically driven animal. I am suggesting tighter controls on screening. My experience comes from my work in healthcare we have definitely seen an increase of transient TB, and have had to introduce an easy access to treatment programme. Now I am not suggesting for a minute that this has impacted on the overall country side. As generally immigration increases in urban areas where people may find easier access to financial independence. However it is also well know that there is a growing black market for cheap labour. In the larger picture though if human infection rates continue we may have a situation where people whose livelihoods depends on the countryside may be even more suspicious and guarded about who has access to their land. Regards Neil

Hi Mate, my very first springer was an SMK 19, it nearly made me give up shooting all togeather. The scope rail was so out of line with the barrel I had to aim 3" to the left @ 20 yards just to get the pellet on target. having said that the dealer I brought it from was excellent and gave me a free upgrade to a cometa 300. The only plus side to buying the SMK was that it made me really study zeroing as I thought the error must have been my fault. It also made me understand hold over / under better. it was so frustrating though that I nearly gave up the sport. The best advice I would probably give a new shooter would be to try other peoples rifles prior to buying and listen to advice. If its that cheap there is a reason for it.
  6. It seems that your all sponsored by air arms. I know that the s200 is highly rated, andI will probably go down that route. I do think that it is ugly though (so should suit me). I don't have snakes problem of being 6"2 and all muscle (snakes words not mine). The thing that strikes me about the S200 is that it is friendly on the pocket. You can add on as finances allow. However the BSA comes already as 10 shot, and has a silencer and scope mounts as standard. So the real question is which one is the most accurate.
  7. How much for rifle? cheers
  8. mate I saw one on page 2 or 3 foe 320 quid.
  9. Hi mate, can you tell me about the BSA hornet cocking mechanism. the two stage thingy sounds tricky?

Grey Hawk, Sounds lovely mate, but a bit fiddly when you've got 25+ birds to do (not that I've ever shot that many with an air rifle). Snakebites method is the one I use, takes about a minute per bird and can be done in the field if need be. P03 Mate you got to do what you feel is best, but should you wish to wine & dine some lucky girl then its a dead cert to third base...
  11. I have an S200 .22 and the best silencer has to be the Air Arms you just donot hear it. Mine also has the 10 shot mag fitted. BAD points:- Plastic bolt lever (changed mine to stainles) 10 shot mag:- just be gentle!! Other than that its a good rifle Anyone out there know the best place to bye them (No Smart But Comments Please) youngmans appears to be the cheapest at £239.95 http://www.youngmans.com/acatalog/S200.html be the Sorry how much for stainless bolt? Is the cocking action quiet. The Bsa Ultra multi shot is £316 from youmgmans, you get a silencer and scope mounts in the price, might be worth considering. Im in two minds as it may be a false economy to have to buy s200 silencer and multishot conversion? I would love the s410 if i was not on a budget. Cheers

    Pigeons

Hi mate, contra to popular belief (or pallet) all pigeon meat is excellent if prepared correctly. In my younger days I was a Chef with 13 years experience (including Michelin starred restaurants). Pigeon was a top seller and many a connoisseur tried our pigeon with Savoy cabbage & bacon. Now there are loads of ways to prepare a pigeon but if you are freezing them you need to: You will have already plucked, removed wings, crop & drawn innards. 1 place the bird on its back on your chopping board so you are looking down at the neck. 2 Use a sharp filleting knife and follow the wish bone down to the wing joint and cut through do the same on the other side until the wish bone is only held at the top by the breasts. 3 Give it a gentle twist and it will come away easy. (You can do this with any bird, it aids easy breast removal and reduces waste). 4 Leave the skin on the breasts as it helps to protect the flesh during freezing. 5 Keep the legs I make a stock from these, it’s easy, pm me for method. Or I can tell you how to make a sausage out of the meat to be served with the breasts. Making a fond (stock) will increase the flavour of your dish 100%. Pigeon breasts should be cooked on the crown; this aids moisture retention and reduces shrinkage. Once cooked rest the breasts from the oven for 5 mins then you run your fillet knife down either side of the breast bone, because the wish bone has been removed you can just carve them straight off the bone. Any juice letf in the dish is utilised to make your sauce. Good luck.
  13. Yes mate thats the plan, I want a multishot for hunting. I am torn between the BSA or the AA both similar price, performance ect. The BSA will only give about 40 shots per charge as apposed tp 70 for the AA http://www.youngmans.com/acatalog/Precharged_Rifles.html has them both. I have already made a bad choice in buying a springer. I don't want to repeat the same mistakes.
