    Hi gang.

I remember my nan using this when i was a kid and if you left a cup of it for a while it ended up with a gungy top

on it. Makes me feel sick thinking about it .

Wasn't the gunge just the cream off the milk? Back in the olden days before it was all homogenised rubbish.

  2. My Greener stopped working, turned out to be due to the firing pin having snapped. Gunsmith drilled a hole tapped it and threaded a new pin he had made into it.

I was quite shocked at the time he could actually do that at all never mind for a viable price, it worked too. Can't say I ever really enjoyed the gun and don't see the appeal but each to their own.

Sold mine to someone who wanted to pretend it was a rifle and reenact being a soldier in Rourke's Drift.

  3. Same here apart from the salt. I doubt anyone in this lane can remember when the last gritter came past.

Not fussed at all about no street lights, I don't see the need. There are some new ones about a mile away and can't think for the life of me what purpose they serve. They were fitted outside a local attraction but it is never open when it is dark.

  4. Yep. I pay Over £3,800 to have my bins emptied.

Nearly £4k a year for what exactly? To pay some useless ****** pension I guess, probably the guy that draws white lines around all the bomb holes in the road once a month. Should spend less on paint and more on tarmac.

  5. Hold it tight when you do eventually shoot it. They kick and the safety latch can hurt.

They do have a significant place in shooting history but I can only think of the Cooey that was a worse gun I ever owned.

No offense intended to owners and I hope you enjoy yours.

  6. I was in my prime, didn't need any help from Gordon or anyone else for that matter. 😁

A long time ago and seriously the best years of my life. Very grateful to be where I am now and who I am with now but particularly enjoyed that part of the journey.

If there was an option to do it all again I wouldn't change much but don't pretend for one second I got it all right. Nice to look back on some incredibly fun times over the decades.

  7. Not sure what is going on with Google Earth pro but from my point of view it appears to be some kind of low res AI version.

My own place is now so blurred it is no use whatsoever. I am fairly rural but if you go into Chester the res is better but they have edited every person out of it, even in the main streets where you just know there would be people. Whatever is going on for the most part it is unusable now

  8. Thought it was, thanks all.

I have a smallholding of about 16 acres with 7.5 acres of apples. I found this one while pruning today.

The strange thing is it's the second dead cat on my place in about 6 months. Nothing to do with me and nor can I think of any reason for it other than there is a disproportionate number of cats about the place and they are dying of old age. Not even particularly close to many houses and miles from the nearest village.

Are cats susceptible to rabbit hemorrhaging disease? I do have that among the rabbit population and the cats are definitely hunting them. May be that is what killed them if they are vulnerable to it. Odd anyway.

You haven't got enough  infrared illumination on those geese. If you get a decent illuminator and  not a grannies path torch.  A. You can see what's going on out there, and B. people can see that they can be seen and recorded.  Deterrent factor.

It was raining, much better usually. This was 3am on a nicer night with some moon a fortnight ago.

  10. Embden geese, they are pets these days but we do eat goose.

Yes they pretty much do just eat grass but I throw them a bit of wheat each day.

The damned fox keeps thinning them out, did have 50 at one time. Have just bought a new shed and as soon as I make a gate for it will be shutting them up for the night.

They are fenced in and electric fence as well but the fox eventually finds its way in.

My best holiday was a fortnight apple picking with the wife in a local orchard.  Cost  nothing,  got a good tan, earnt some money,  peaceful and quiet,  good time with the wife and  no hastle traveling and stressing at airports.

That's my day job and probably why we haven't been away since covid, it's just so nice here.

Missus would like a holiday but I'm not fussed and struggling to come up with somewhere which is the main reason for reading this thread in the first place.

Like Australia but it is a long way and we have been there many times, could go again.

I like the idea of renting a big house somewhere in UK or even Europe and taking son and his family. Fishing would be nice, place with a BBQ etc.

    Still thinking.

  12. Sometimes there is sometimes there isn't.

I much prefer not to see them on girls, ladies as it seems such a shame to cover a beautiful body. Just my preference and means nothing.

My ex wife had maybe 10 various tattoos. Nothing big, just the usual stuff like a rose here or there and such things. She hated them in later life and spent a lot getting rid of them. Don't really know why she had such a thing about them as they were mostly out of sight, the scars from being removed looked worse than the tattoos. She had them done early 20's and removed mid 30's.

On the other hand I see ladies very proud of theirs even much later in life. Most people seem to live for the moment and disregard what might be in later life.

I don't have any myself but often wished I had done. Actually went on two occasions only for them to be shut, I decided it was not meant to be.

Depreciation, well that depends on the vehicle of course?

Certain manufacturers of ICE Vehicles have residual values that make your eyes water, especially if you have gone for their executive models. Think top of the range Peugeot or Citroen, maybe an Alfa etc.

The market for EV’a has tumbled, especially since the Government’s push back of the discontinuation of ICE Vehicle sales date.

Do I feel like a  smug environmentalist for having it? Nope. Am I preaching that people should buy one?  Nope, for it’s a mentioned as to what suits the individual.
For me and the type of driving that I do, it suits me. I didn’t purchase for residuals, practicality or environmental reasons, I purchased it as it’s a wee beastie and garners the attention of ‘the ladies’ 😉

I asked about your halving of the running costs. It may well do that but the other costs involved with EV ownership wipes that benefit out many fold I am guessing.

Nothing to do with me what you drive and not prejudiced in any way for or against EV but at the moment reduced running costs are not going to sway the decision are they.

My running costs have been half of my ICE vehicle was.

If you take into account the higher purchase price and reduced resale value of the EV and any other differences such as road fund or whatever it is called these days,  approximately what is the difference in overall costs?  I'm thinking the "cheap" fuel isn't a deal breaker when looking at the whole picture.

I'm not against EV or anyone that has one but they are the dearer option at the moment as far as I can figure out. Town dwellers have some advantage as do folk making short journeys and access to cheap electric.
