  1. I have a long list of reasons for missing, I just use one at a time in rotation until I improve and then start over again.
  2. I have been on Windows 7 for some time and no problems at all. I did have to get a new scanner (old but functional) at the time because Windows 7 didn't support it. Just check that your peripherals will still work whatever you change to.
  3. I would buy a good second hand bolt action CZ452 (with mod & scope) and you wont go wrong. At least until you see something else you fancy.
  4. I have read that all the available energy is expended well before 16" so as previous post there is nothing to be gained other than what you prefer for the use you require.
  5. After a day out with me, my mate goes to sleep at night hearing crows calling due to me practicing with the Primos all day.
  6. I agree, use them 4 to 5 hours at a time and can hear better with them than without + hearing protected from shotgun blast.
  7. My .22 LR is used from 25 to 125 yards ranges and accurate range estimation is very important re 'drop'. Rangefinder is used when ever I am shooting an unknown range.. A mate and myself often guess distances and check with rangefinder how far out we are out.We never seem to guess the same range as each other. I prefer to use rangefinder if in any doubt . I recognise my capabilities re range estimation and use the tool for the job.
  8. I would not be with my rangefinder with .22LR (I zero at 50 yards with Eley subs)if not known ranges, as you say 17HMR is a lot easier from 40 to 120 yards range but rangefinder for anything much more.
  9. I whole heartedly agree. I was loathe to let it go, probably suffering but I was on my own and could not have done anything else under the circumstances and in the area it was in,save grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and at this time I did not know if it was fully mobile until it trotted off up the farmyard and drive. PS the farmer also wanted it shot, so I had another reason to do so but it was not possible on the day.I have been out since and am going again in the morning just in case he is about. Nature is cruel.
  10. Congratulations Gary, Enjoy every moment from now on as it will change your life for the better. It is hard work though...
  11. 16" on both HMR / .22LR and spot on accuracy if I do my bit.
  12. Sorry if I am about to disappoint you, but on another day in a safer location he/she would have been despatched as it was possibly injured or poorly being found in those circumstances and I would not want it to suffer unduly. It now has another chance, until next time we meet.
  13. I was out and about yesterday just on the mooch, there had been thousands of pigeon flighting over one of my permissions up to the last week or so, giving some good sport but have more or less spread far and wide now. However whilst having a sit down and watching the world go by the farmer rang me to say he had a fox under his car in the garage and would I come and shift it. On getting there it was curled up in the grass box from the lawn mower.I poked it with a stick and it eventually crept out and went under the car and I couldn't persuade it to come out with there being two other persons in the immediate vicinity so I suggested to the (very elderly) farmer and his wife to go and have a cup of tea and I would wait from a distance for it to leave on its own. After half an hour it was again curled up in the grass box looking to be asleep. I prodded it again and it eventually went under the car and finally trotted of down the drive and away. I suspect the fox was injured or ill although it looked in good condition as it trotted off ok, but not at full tilt which I would have expected. I regularly see day time fox here and I will keep my eye out for him.
  14. From me too, all the very best wishes for health and happiness to all members and their families for 2014.
  15. I have used 'sprayway' overtrousers (with zip up lower leg) for fly fishing.Been out in torrential rain all day more than once or twice and stayed bone dry.Not been roughing it in hard cover though because I dont,t go shooting in heavy rain. They are very hard wearing and still more than serviceable after 10 years or more.
  16. No sympathy for her or her predicament at all,Lots of people want everything 'today' even when they can't afford it.We had only the children and the lifestyle we could afford. Both have grown up well adjusted and with the same mentality as us. Could not be said for a lot of the current generation and their offspring, I could not and would not live beyond my means and by means I mean 'money' I had worked for not benefits. If she has £70 of her benefits left over after paying her bills she is in a better position than I was when our kids were young and I was working full time.
  17. I have recenly got a pair of Howard Leights Impact sports defenders and am very pleased with them.I find the only problem being they are a little tight after a few hours pigeon shooting.
  18. +1 and I can hear more with them on but it dulls the 'bang' considerably.
  19. 32% today but may well be very different on another day.
  20. I am so habituated to wearing a seat belt, that I now find it difficult to even move off my drive without wearing it.
  21. Thanks John for a very informative first intro (for me) to night vision and good to see so many local shooters present.
  22. Excuse my lack of knowledge on reloading but my first thought was 'who's this Redding Body' thats died?
