  1. Thanks man, nice to hear from someone who has used one I have a mate who shoots right handed but is left eye dominant. Looks like this is the best use of them as it corrects it - will be sure to pass it on to him..
  2. Cheers for the replies. I have to say the more I shoot (only been shooting clays 2 months) the more I can't remember where I actually point the gun. Like you say you just "know". Most of the time you aint pointing at the clay anyway I spose. I think I save my cash for another 100 bird practice which will probably be more use in the long run
  3. I've often thought my perfect day out would be me, a box of ferrets, lurcher and my beretta with my FF9 and wildthing under my other arm. Sat on a nice slope some place and just enjoying my two favourite hobbies together. To make this day more heterosexually acceptable it would also include being repeatedly fellated by the popular singing outfit girls aloud, whilst enjoying my other two favourite hobbies
  4. I don't have any myself, but I think some of them look cool, well done ones anyway. Always nice to see something on the small of the back on a young lady, something to look at isn't it? I think when you go this far, its more about the mutilation than the art itself - and people that do it probably have some form of disorder. As has been said, full marks to the bloke, but if he wants that done he won't be satisfied for long and will be back for more, bigger and more mutilating ones - can that be healthy?
  5. Just as it says. I note you can get all sorts of different ones. Not normally a fiddler, leave things alone when they work and I am breaking the clays - these intrigued me though http://www.easyhit.co.uk/ anyone use them? Or anyone using any other 3rd party sights, and what do you think of them?
  6. Lithium ion / polymer cell, no doubt about it. Another hobby of mine is RC planes / helis. We use lithium polymer cells a lot, and I have many a horror story I could recount. Unlikely anyone here would be using such cells for this hobby really though you could very easily. They are light and have extremly high energy density. Most of you will have a single 600-1000mah cell in your mobile phone! Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMh) and Nicads will heat up and possibly cause a fire, but will seldom explode. Lithium packs (lipo's) have a weak link in the pack to stop a short causing a fire - but it can still happen (mostly when charging or over discharging). If you are using them and don't know what the dangers are, check out this little experiment we did. The vid explains whats going on, but it was taken on a couple of camera phones so you can't actually see the battery. The cell was a single lipo 1200mah - most would come in a pack of 3 or more of these little fellas. NOTE: some strong language in the vid right at the end (me)
  7. Fast, far left to right crossers - just becuase of the challenge
  8. Finally! You will have to excuse the enthusiasm mate its all still new and exciting to me, and finally someone else on here lives a bit local The club/shoot is the one at Bowmans Farm, not sure if thats the same one (PM sent). This Sat my pops is down and we are shooting at my club sadly (well, not sadly as its cheaper and better imvho). Will deffo have to meet up and have a clatter there at A1 or up at broomhills. A bit of a trek but worth it
  9. Bump! Nobody in that area fancy getting an *** whuppin?
  10. Just smacks of talking about it rather than doing to be honest, whats stopping you Mungler lad? SO! what the dickens is happening with this? Somone needs to step forward and make a new thread for this and organise it. I'd happily offer to do it, but I am new, don't know any of you, don't know the grounds, am a novice shooter anyway and loads of other Mungler-style excuses to include but not limited to being cross eyed, having two left shoulders and a wonky shooting bat So, who will make this new thread?
  11. Lol, fair point. I had a safe anyway for the family silver / mrs pin's collection of sparkly things etc. As soon as she saw a propper safe it all moved into the locking top bit of mine. Cow, I wanted to put me shells in there!

    PCP under £350 ?

The others are ok, but the air arms is the best for the money - no question
  13. Have a look here http://www.met.police.uk/firearms-enquiries/. Nicely laid out and explains it all, lots to take in but read it all through and you will be in the know
  14. Some good tips already, best one (already mentioned) to list the problems. When someone "just doesn't like" something its very hard to argue agaisnt becuase the objector might well be less knowledgable and therefore feel threatened and just go "NO" - I see this a lot and its relatively simple to overcome. I usualy find that compromise always wins, and that objections are normally about something else when it comes the gf or the wife. For instance mine didn't want guns in the house "NO WAY". After some feet stamping I got to the bottom of it, she wanted something doing in the flat before I started spending cash on guns. Obiously this was particular to my situation, but you could try a a random bit of diy she's been on about and then hit her with it, might work and its harder for her to say no My dad bought me an air rifle when I was about 10, to show me about gun safety, correct handling and primarily so I had one and wouldn't be tempted to go and try and get hold of one on the QT. Learning the correct ways to behave, handle and respect any form of gun or weapon are important skills, something you could use to persuade the wife. The thing I have found is don't dig your heels in, let it go a week or so and bring it up again naturally. If all else fails get one and play the "bargain, bloke was getting rid once in a lifetime I saved a fortune" card, just make sure she don't find the bill GL
  15. Oh yes, that my friend is cooking pornography I'd go for that, with a game stock made from the discarded bits of rabbit etc, root veg and some 'erbz. I'd deffinately consider the pancetta but I think you need to make sure its nice and salty to lift it. I'd brown off the game in a thick bottomed pan, roll it in a little seasoned flower to get it lovelly and brown and get the flavours going. Into the stock would have to be a good 1/3rd of a bottle of a nice spicy red wine, perhaps a youngish rioja? Shove a bay leaf or three in there and mmmm I like the idea of the chutney, go for that with caramelised red onion with the junipers, a classic combo. Add into that a touch of balsamic and the cinnnamon, cloves etc Let us know how you get on, post some pics
  16. Nice, the dog's got its eye on one of em too
  17. I am suprised it happened at all, the short must have been a good contact held for a while to generate the heat required. Rimfire/centrefire/SG shell all roughly the same really in principle. If the pressure isn't constrained and directed then the energy will dissapate in all directions at once with no lethal energy in any one direction. Still wouldn't want to try it, though
  18. Yes and no. Its not doing 1400fps+ anymore, but its still moving and you wouldn't want it in your eye / pet etc

£25, so not really (if you intend to buy) or yes, if you don't and are just nosy Disclaimer, I don't condone anyone actually doing this btw :- You could try the old chestnut of walking into a large name big dealership, waffle on about wanting "one of those" and offer the rego to the salesperson as the trade in, they are all subbed to HPI/Experion all the rest of it and pay a flat fee (no skin off his nose to tap in the plate) and he will sharpish tell you if its not kosher (the checks are done online so its instant) Failing that the AA and RAC were offering discounts if you are with them.
  20. Whereabouts in London (pm if you don't want everyone knowing). You will find most stuff around London is syndicated, that is groups of shooters sharing the land use, have most of it stitched up. There will be the odd bit here and there. There is a lot of good advice, tips and strategies on the main site http://www.pigeonwatch.co.uk/land.htm as well as in the Gaining Shooting Permissions section of these very forums. You would do well to have a good read of that first.
  21. Everyone at work knows about me keeping them and that I hunt them too, they all think its completely wierd and keep asking if I have shot them yet At least its not just me then

    Rats!

I've seen pest control people use co2 pistols at close range, in practice they don't hit hard enough for rats in my experience (at any reasonable range beyond 10m). In fact I have shot a couple recently with my AA s410, right on the button and seen them run off, I know a few people who have had the same thing happen, hard heads these things. Sometimes they drop, sometimes they run off The beretta with 4's in it deals with them nicely, though I know thats not an option where you are
  23. Firstly just glad you are ok, I am sure it freaked you out! Given a basic understanding of physics I would have said you would have to be extremely unlucky to get seriously hurt or killed by this happening. In order for a rifle round to gain its lethal kinetic energy the combustion of the shell needs to be tightly constrained, by a lot more than just the casing, in order for the pressure to build with only one way of release (via the barrel). When the shell went off the build up of pressure in the casing was far too much for it since it wasn't in the barrel so it gave up. There would have been some energy imparted on the round but it would not have much energy, certainly not enough to kill or wound someone. High pressure will always take the path of least resistance to dissipate (much like electrical potential) and in this case the casing was weak and failed, the majority of the energy dissapating that way rather than sending the round off at high velocity. I would think you might have gotten a minor flesh wound if you were unlucky, certainly some mild powder burns if it was close to skin. Not trying to be a smartarse, just sharing my view.. Still, not what you want to happen anywhere near the family jewels mate! Lessons here for us all I think...
  24. One of the biggest favours you can do yourself is ditch internet explorer. 99% of people have it, so almost all the malware (spy/ad/virus/trojan) writers will write exploits which assume you are using it. Its bloated, slow and lacks the features of decent third-party browsers. Have a look at Mozilla Firefox as an alternative. It looks almost the same, has loads of useful features and is open source (thousands of people can contribute and spot problems rather than one large corporate). When you install it your settings and bookmarks will all be dealt with for you. This will not make you immune to problems and there are exploits for Firefox too, but they tend to get fixed quicker and a bunch more of them are spotted before the malware lot cotton on to them.
