  1. I'm really lucky with Neighbors, our house extension has turned into a complete gutting and refurb, which has been going on since the end of May, a few people in the street have complained about the lorries coming and going, the neigbors either side couldn't be more understanding. Last sunday night I got a call from the attached side saying they had damp patches appearing on their wall from where the builders had opened part of either roof to join our new roof too it. I popped straight around, had a look over a cup of tea, agreed with them that the builders would make sure its watertight the following morning, then once the roof is finished and it's properly water the builders would come in and make good as required, everyone's happy. I dread to think what it could have been like.
  2. I had a very similar experience, I bought a beretta 690 and shot some paper with it, 26gm RC seem to pattern quite well through it, I used it roost shooting with 1/4 and 1/2 chokes and was more than happy with the results, if the centre pattern of 1/2 choke connects it's pretty devastating. On the two driven days I've shot this year I've kept the cyclinder and half choke in from summer decoying and havent really thought about it.
  3. There's definately two distinct camps in the shooting circles I frequent, the first being the road I've gone down, for me I prefer the lighter weight of a 20, it's about 1.5lb lighter than my 12 and having a left handed gun fitted to me has helped enormously. I tried 28/30gm loads through it, other than more recoil there wasn't any difference at the recieving end, I have my 12 for 28gm and over, 25/26gm does the job perfectly. The second, generally slightly younger camp, are using increasingly heavier payloads and tighter chokes though their 12's, which when we shoot together I see no advantage to using. I spoke to a much less experienced friend of mine on Saturday morning who was on his way to the gun shop to stock up on carts. Out of curiousity I asked him what he was buying, oh some 28/30gm for the lad in his 20 and some 32gm 4 or 5 for my 12. Both Black Gold, I explained to him that his lad being 14 and not the largest framed in the world isn't going to appreciate being knocked about by those loads, it will very likely lead to flinching and missing, I'd advised him to stick with the 24/26gm he was using, if it wasn't killing adequantly increase the choking slightly. Equally for him 30gm of no6 will do the job all day long on the kind of birds he's under. People get carried away with articles in the shooting press, or the my mate uses these so they must be good. I'd take a moderate payload that's comforable to shoot over the fashonable choices all day long.
  4. I've used a 20bore exclusvley for all my shooting since the end of last season and I wont be changing back to my 12 any time soon. With 26gm RC sipes in no7 or no6 through cyclinder and 1/4 over decoys, or 1/4 and 1/2 choke on driven pheasant and partridge days I've found it every bit as capable as I am, lighter to carry, it just seems to be better suited to the job of essex driven than carting my 12 about. Around half of the syndicate members I shoot with shoot 20's and the occassional 28b. That number is increasing every season.
  5. Yep, I experimented with 28gm and quckly reverted back to 25/26gm.
  6. I use a 30inch barrelled beretta 690. I started off using 28gm sipes and found them quite thumpy. I then went down to 26gm sipes which feel a lot more friendly on the shoulder for no discernible difference at the receiving end.
  7. I'm using RC 26gm RC Sipes in no7 or no6 and RC JK6 in no7 through my Beretta 690. Light on the shoulder and do the business on the recieving end, I tried 28gm and heavier and felt a lot more recoil for little difference in the field. I have a 12 bore for heavier loads. Most of the 20bore users I shoot with use RC.
  8. I've gone the other way this year, retired my 12 and got a 20,. The 12 is still in the cabinet but it wont be coming out of it any time soon. I had the 20 fitted to me, spent some time shooting a few differents brand of cartridge through it over the summer to find something it and I like. 26gm RC JK6 or Sipe in no7 works really well through 1/4 and 1/2 choke. So far i've used it on 3 driven days and shot aorund the 3 to 1 mark. I couldn't be happier at this point.
  9. They had a stand at the Suffolk country show meaning I could find a pair that fitted really closely. Very happy so far 😁
  10. I’ve been using riding gloves this season https://www.tuffaboots.com/product/wroxham/ Warmer than macwets, I still have a good amount of feeling in them. For really cold days I use the sealskins winter gloves
  11. no problem, i'll PM you after I've finished on Saturday.
  12. I'll be shooting a box or so of RC JK6 and Sipe through my 20 on Saturday, I believe they're only 70mm case though, if they're any good let me know and I'll keep them to one side.
  13. I bought a Seeland Winster Jacket for shooting in this season, its too light weight for beating in, I spent a wet saturday in this last weekend and it kept me warm and dry all day.
  14. Yep, our british gas boiler and pipe cover when up 30% yesterday, no claims, nothing over the last 12 months, phoned then and they dropped it 20% immediately.
  15. I’ve tried 21 to 28gm through my 690 and other than a load more recoil the heavier loads didn’t make any difference at the receiving end. I feed it 26gm RCs now which seems to be the sweet spot for me and the gun. 👍
  16. Visited the black cow brewery in Dorset a few years ago. Its made from the left overs of cheese making I believe. I like the vodka, it's nice out of the freezer on its own, there's a bottle in there at the moment. The after taste reminds me of milk bottle sweets 😀
  17. With the current trend of 'high' bird days and the heavy loads being driven through those guns, I would think an auto would be better suited to dealing with the recoil.
  18. I shot a 30inch 686 in 12 bore for years, I added a 690 20 bore in Feb and after swinging 29/30/32 barrelled models in the shop I settled on the 30. 32 felt great in the shoulder but looked so long and didn’t feel very practical, I’m not the tallest in the world 🙄 I like some weight out front and the 30 felt just right. Individual preference is key, there’s no right or wrong answer.
  19. We’re Having an extension put on the back of our house at the moment. 1930s semi. The original plan was just to take the kitchen/diner floor up and replace with wet underfloor heating with the original room joined to the new. When the rear floor came up it was apparent that joists were rotten and Definitely needed replacing. I was amazed at the amount of rubbish that accumulated around the air bricks. Sadly the front room and hallway aren’t much better so I now have a house with no Floating floors, they been taken back to the original concrete and will be replaced with 125mm of cellotex? I’m not that technical 🤷‍♂️ Covered with 75mm screed containing wet underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. what should have been a 4 month project will be at least 6 months. There isn’t much of the original house left!
  20. If I ever have the funds for that kind of driven shooting I buy 2 682 Golds, have them serviced and refinished , job done. A couple of friends of mine shoot these high birds days and both have recently sold Perazzis following relabilty issues and gone back to Browning & Berettas.
  21. I’ve had a 686 onyx for 20 years. It never missed a beat. Just regular cleaning after use. I had a serviced about 3 years ago. Hinge pins where replaced and that was it. Good for another 17years.
  22. They’re a good idea. For putting less stress through the frame of nothing else. I’ve seen one made up using two sheets of marine ply and tennis balls! Which I’m going to try. My knees definitely heat up indoors which I’m hoping a rocker plate will help with. https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/turbo-rocker-board.232667/
  23. There’s been a few updates to the kickr and core recently. One is a quieter drive belt. The unit itself is very quiet. The drivetrain makes the most noise.
  24. I’ve just purchased a wahoo kickr core. I’ve gone with a TrainerRoad subscription rather than zwift. I can see the appeal of zwift.
  25. I started off using 28gm sipe in my 690 20b and I found them too punchy for my liking. The 26gm are a joy to shoot by comparison and still seem to be hard hitting. JK6 are my favs though it but I only seem to be able to get them through just cartridges.
