  1. What kind of build is he? It would be worth taking him to a shop and handing both to see which he’s more comfortable with. 21gm through both a 12 and 20 are a joy to shoot. Personally I find 28gm a bit lumpy through my 690, 20b, certainly RC sipes anyway. However 24-26gm is a joy to shoot with no discernible difference at the receiving end. Be careful if you don’t use a 20 already, once you’ve had a go you may find yourself not giving it back 😁😂
  2. Freelance journalist Matt Cross doesn’t mind laying into Packham and co. So puffingate was fake news. https://www.shootinguk.co.uk/uncategorized/exclusive-shooting-times-investigation-proves-puffin-hunting-claims-lie-106927
  3. TT I’m 42 and can relate to much of what you’ve posted. I’m married with 2 kids and have certainly had those empty feelings in recent times. I reflect on how far I’ve come and how I’m blessed to have a beautiful wife and children. We’re having our house pretty much rebuilt and having our family home knocked about is affecting me more than I thought. It great to hear the words of others and realise we’re not unique in these feelings. Its finding what’s causing them that’s the difficult part! all the best.
  4. Definitely. I suspect we all know a numbers man. as I’ve gotten older I’ve become less obsessed with numbers and more about enjoying the day and being slightly more selective on what I shoot. I’d rather shoot fewer ‘good’ birds than more average birds. I find my shooting tails off slightly as the day goes on. 🤷‍♂️
  5. Will the estate in question be punished or purely the individual responsible?
  6. I’m open minded on disks, The manufacturers will gradually phase callipers out, I would think it must be pretty straightforward to build a shroud over the disk to help prevent any injuries. Many of the bikes in the pro peloton have weight added to achieve the 6.8kg limit. More and more bikes are through axle now and Riders very often just change bikes rather than a wheel if there’s an issue. 2 more days, come on JA! 😁
  7. Real contrast in technology today. Inneos lightweight climbing wheels that may be so stiff it makes handling nervous on the decent verses JA using disk brakes and the skill to exploit them. I bet my house inneos will be all disk by next season. The best tour for years 😁
  8. Rowe and Martin are the respective road captains of their teams. Jumbo were blocking the road as inneos we’re trying to move up. It Happens pretty often once the DS are happy with the composition of the break. It looked like handbags and both guys were civil in the post race interviews. Kicking them out seems harsh, a fine more appropriate maybe 🤷‍♂️ Both will be a big miss. They do a great deal of hard yards early in a stage and in Martins case a lot of the pulling in the jumbo lead out train.
  9. My 12 bore AL391, which has certainly done a few miles, cycles 21gm too. I also have a 20bore AL391 which is much 'tighter' whihc isn't over happy with 21gm but cycles 24gm/26gm all day.
  10. I bought a 690 field I in 20b in February and whilst I’ve only put about 2,000 shells through it so far I can’t fault it. It’s a slightly wider action than the 686 series. The woodwork feels slightly larger. I much prefer the English forend over the Schnable one on many 686s. It’s a different beast to my 1989 686 onyx, I wouldn’t call it worse, just different. Like many new guns the woodwork is relatively unfinished, it’s away being oil finished at the moment in time for the game season. Try and hold onto the 686 as well if you can😁
  11. IT Issue with our work email service, it doesn't recognise the formant and blocked/wouldn't send it, I've sent it using webmail and it went through fine.
  12. I bought a new shotgun yesterday, I went to email the notification through to the firearms@essex.pnn.police.uk email address as I have done in the past and received a bounce back informing me the address is no longer valid. I last used the email service and February and was really pleased with how it was managed. I'll call their office this morning to find out what's going on and post a copy to them in the meantime. Hay anyone else tried to use the email recently and found it not working?
  13. Thanks! I had to order this one as it’s a leftie. I saw a few right handed ones in the flesh and I was happy enough to place an order for one. The standard of woodwork varies somewhat from one to the other but I’m really happy with the wood on this.
  14. I had a benelli manchino, it was just a left handed montifeltro. I got rid as I couldn’t adjust it to shoot as flat as I wanted. That and after using R/H autos for years i found a left hand one awkward to use. I went back to a R/H AL391 with no issues whatsoever. The safety can be changed over in about 30 seconds, shimed the stock over to suit and job done. Although rare LH autos tend to be relatively cheap as the demands not that high. Im now considering an A620/sx3/391/a400 in 20bore. The Winchester and beretta seem relatively rare. Will be a long day in the car to get one.
  15. I bought a 690 field 1 in 20 bore in February. like you I cant stand the schnable foreend, the rounded one looks so much nice IMO. I also have a 1989 686 onyx and the two are certainly different beasts, although not in a bad way. The newer budget 68 series guns are definately built to a budget these days, the 12 bores feel a bit fat in the hands compared to the older guns of which my 686 onyx feels more elegant. The 690 field replaced the 687, its a nice piece of kit and if it performs like my 686 it will be just fine. ,
  16. My daughters are 5 and 9, if they're awake they both get a hug and a kiss on the lips every morning before I leave for work, I don't feel right leaving the house without doing it.
  17. My wife talks in hear sleep two or three times a month, mostly random stuff, although a regular themes are sitting up and shouting 'what are you up to' or 'leave me alone' my repsonse is usually leave me alone, or I'm not upto anything....yet...... She hit me a few months ago, that was a new one, I assumed she was asleep!
  18. Apologies, it’s 5w30 on mine. Works a treat!
  19. Yes, I use the fully synthetic that diesel Audi/BMWs use 👍 500ml will last me a very long time 😁
  20. Figgy, I've run all my autos on Fully Synthetic Motor oil, you can achieve a nice thin coating with it, it sticks to all the surfaces, they run well on it. If found that once stripped and relubed with Motor Oil they sound quieter when cycling and feel much smoother. It's great stuff.
  21. http://www.boxallandedmiston.co.uk/gunbuilder/?s=2 Money no object one of these in 16 would be lovely!
  22. Agreed, in my view the 68series action scaled to 16 as per their 20 and 28 would be a seller. The slender action would suit it, I’d have bought one if they had. I suspect many people would but the 20 is their only option. I took a good look at the Lincoln and b rizzini. The rizzini needs to go on a diet, I really like the Lincoln, maybe next time 😁
  23. Thanks, I'm 100 miles P/W in the summer, half that in the winter when I'm out beating or shooting instead 🙂 its the dunwich dynamo tomorrow night as well. It's goes right through where I do most of my riding.
  24. Had beretta made an Over and Under in 16 bore I'd have put one it the cabinet rather than the 690 20 bore I ended up buying.
