  1. Thanks for the time you put into typing all.
  2. Our endowment comes out this month (we changed to repayment but we were advised to keep the endowment going - and it’s done reasonably well over the 25 years). We are going to split it between the kids for a house deposit each. Neither are looking, youngest is 16. Its around £20k each, although that’s just a guide, waiting for the cheque amount on that day. We want low (near 0) risk that can easily be taken out, when needed. They both have quite a few premium bonds and win regularly (between £25-£500 through the years) already and have auto re-investment. Bank account are a waste of time, although that may change with the interest rates….. I know I can (and will) speak to an expert but have no idea what to look at and any independent advice would be welcome.

    Energy Price Cap

This is a worldwide issue. In Key West right now and on the TV news is constantly - 1. Cost of living. We’ve noticed a massive price hike since 2019 in supermarkets etc. 2. Cost of electricity (they must used loads running air conditioning 24/7). 3. Cost of petrol (although USA had always moaned about it). It’s currently $4 a US gallon…..
  4. I wear their waxed leggings. They finish a days shooting and are put in the washing machine on a rinse. Used 15 days a year. A quick spray with nikwax when damp and a full rub in wax at the end of the season. They last ages.
  5. Someone must be paying a lot more or you must get stuff on the cheap. £6000 gun payments. I’ve roughly got to £6700 with the basics not including any rent or running expenses
  6. Phil Collen (Def Leppard). Can take on the greatest rock players and would hold his own against the fastest shredders…..
  7. Somewhere warm and dark is ideal for the yeast to finish. Did you add sugar or carb drops into the bottles? You’ll need to vent them starting a week or so after bottling. I keep one bottle in a kitchen cupboard to check the pressure.
  8. I have the single Ninja model. We cook all our meat in it and home made healthy spiced wedges. They are brilliant Whole cooked chicken split in half. Wedge potatoes and coat in a cocktail of (legal) herbs and spices (we use mustard, garlic, chilli flakes and mixed Italian herbs). No need for any oil…. In hindsight (and when this one dies) I’ll buy the double so you can do both an once.
  9. Chicken liver pâté - YES. Haggis - YES. Liver - NEVER…….
  10. I’m sat here an hour away from the Scottish Borders and have a Scottish wife. My FiL is the most Scottish person I know and hates NS and the idea of independence with a vengeance. If they leave, they have to feel the pinch BIG TIME (or enjoy their fruits) and have little if anything go their way…… Hard border with passports and EU style paperwork. At least their share of national debt. After 5 years they are allowed back (kind of a pre divorce separation) if they don’t like it, with significantly different conditions to the jammy deal they have (or as the cult claims poor) from the UK. Day 1 the Scottish council is dissolved permanently and Holyrood becomes a hotel.
  11. Well that’s me bottled up tonight after 15 days in the barrel. 2 carbonation drops per bottle. I ran out of bottles after 32 bottles. I could have easily hit 40-45. 7Days (my elderflower mentor). What are those bottles you use? I’ve been using the cooper beer bottles. PS - I had a 12 months old bottle tonight - Ice cold, it gets better with age……

    Home energy use.

We had an old fridge freezer that was using 760KWH per year. I’ve ordered a new one that will use 200KWH. Pay for itself in a year. Surprisingly a 20 year old small chest freezer uses very little and would take 5 years to pay for itself. Most important, my beer fridge has cost 5p in the last 24 hours.
  13. Without going into full details (I’m not a chemist) it changes to alcohol easier.
  14. Yes. I’ve got a 25 litre batch set away since Friday . Last year I tried using champagne yeast and 50/50 brewing sugar and cane sugar…. It actually ended up too strong. This year I’ve stepped down to 25/75 with the champagne yeast. Bubbling away!!!!

Thanks for the response. 2 small toilets (just toilet) with underfloor heating. We tried turning them off, it made no noticeable difference. Showers are 1x electric and 2 hot water tank (1 is a power shower, other is pressure fed). Kettle is a qooker (just new in 2021). We have a early smart meter that was installed by a previous provider and doesn’t work with the current (apparently)
  18. Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice…… We own a 5 bedroom house and have 4 adults. It’s a mid 90’s 4 bedroom build, with an extension. The washing machine goes a lot. 2 times a day at least (it’s a brand new Bosch). We very rarely use the tumble drier. My direct debt is £330 a month. We use around 1/2 the the average gas use, for a 5 bedroom house per year, but around 3x the electric average electricity. (Plus - we are out all day at work or school). Whilst on holiday last week, the house used 16KW of power. When we are in the house we use around 20-25. The usual - modern TVs on stand by, Alexas, ring cameras, etc etc. Can V1 digital smart meters be wrong?
  19. Unused. Up to 42” waist. Open loop. £25 collected (NE61) £30 posted
  20. Several members of what? Or have I missed it? - Here? What club? You sound like a ‘walt’ to me Mark (A worried 28 Browning Cynergy User)
