  1. Hey Guys, hope you had a super Christmas and wish you all a prosperous new year. Here are my two, Jack and Lena, behold:
  2. Brilliant, liked the way he stood attentively waiting. Mine just want to run out as soon as i swing my hand, so been keeping them on a leash until I say fetch. Keep it up. btw, mine are just 8 months, but coming along real good, even though they get very little in the way of training.
  3. Thanks Mrs sweepy, I have got somewhere for her, its just that i have read the NTTF doc but wasn't sure if it was obvious. But will keep watching her. She has got to be due any time now. Cheers
  4. Ok, heres for a newbie question. My little bitch is around 8 months now and I am getting a bit concerned as she shares a run with her bro. Is it obvious when they come on heat, I mean will I know? I have been checking her for leaks, swelling, but are none, yet Jack (her bro) seems to sniff at her rear end more so now. I have never seen him try anything on her so I may be safe for the mo. Any directions would be appreciated. Cheers
  5. Shooting the signs is just boredem, nothing to shoot ha ha And what do you mean I pop up everywhere?? Not sure if thats good or not. All the best
  6. I use the spray on and rub it in all over, have not seen a tick yet, touch wood.
  7. Hello Fortune and Cyprus grandad, I am in cyprus in the eastern side, been here a couple of years now. If you guys remember i wanted to get a couple of cockers, that I now have. Clay pigeon shooting is in Paralimni, just 10 mins from protaras. They have 2 skeet set ups OT and a couple of small sporting come compct setups. If you are over again, let me know we could go I have my gun and we could borrow one from the ground, it might cost you a £1 though. If you look at www.fsbproperties.com thats me, I live in Avgorou village just 20 mins from Ayia Napa and 25 mins from kapparis. Nice to know some of you fellas out here, could do with a shooting buddy. As for the woodys, yes the season is coming up and there seems to be a number of them about, but we maybe restricted on shooting them due to EU directives grrrrr! Does you head in all this EU ********. As for the locals being trigger happy, mate nothing wa ain't seen back at home from people who enjoy this stuff. There are some 40K licenced SGC holders, how many in the UK?? Anyway, good to meet your aquaintance, hope to talk to you soon.
  8. Flippin Heck, and thanks for that guys. I do have another run, but that means i will have to get Jack and Bruno (my daughters 4month rottweiler) in one and Lena in the other. Next you'll be tell me they will be doing it through the mesh Thanks I will keep an eye out for her. I have to say just as an aside, she is a real cracker, she will go into water with ease, down (virtually vertical) slopes into thick cover and she is super fast and direct. I just love her. jack, well he has a lot of catching up to do, he is just a bloke. Very affectionate fella, you can't help loving him. I can see how people get attached to their dogs, they just become another family member. Is there a time when cockers settle down a touch?? Mine are just super hyper, if the see another person, dog, cat they just go nuts and want to clammer all over them. My biceps have now turn mr universe style with all the exercise they are getting
  9. OK, now you got me all worried I need some advice too! I keep my dog and bitch in the same run. Brother and sister, both about 5 1/2 months. I am aware that she may come into season anytime soon or even after some more months (i guess all bitches differ) but at what age can my dog pup actually do the business? Is he old enough? You know what I mean. I do check her daily for any signs of swelling or blood, but she seems so young yet. All input welcome
  10. Hi, If its any consolation, I started with NTTF training aids plus other meterial I read and was supplied with (thanks again chaps) and My two cocker pups are coming along real good. Considering the time I am devoting to actual training, just everyday obedience training really. Currently, they will wait at the kennel door and not dash out until told Now when I put down their food they sit and wait until I say OK I have let them off the lead and let them run around and they don't stray more about 30m from me. If they do I call out wait, they stop, look at me and wait for me to catch up. The here command is 98% successfull, but I can live with that for the mo. The are only just over 5 months. The fetch is good they will bring the dummy to hand everytime I need to work on the stay command because (and I have neglected this due to letting them off the lead) they won't let me get more than about 3m from them and then dash towards me. All in all, I have to say I am quite pleased. In fact whilst we were out walking the other day, there were a bunch of pigeons in a field and they were statled by Jack, on take off he immediately sat, wow, I haven't even got that far yet, I was well chuffed, what a lad? Hopefully he will continue that. A question for the more expert ones please. My bitch is now approaching 6 months and I understand that at this age she may come on heat? recently she has started an unusual behaviour. The small bucket that contains her water, she puts her front paws in it splashing and dipping her face into it to! Jack doesn't do it. Is this behavior normal or could it be related to her hormones??? I know sounds like a stupid question, but she never did it before and I wondered why she should start now. Lena is a much better hunter/retriever than jack, she will sniff out the dummy, Jack needs to see it fall. Anyway, best of luck with the training and as I have been advised don't do too much too soon, enjoy your pups as well. Pan
  11. Not want to kick someone when they are down, but I have spent a fortune at Litts over the years, their customer service was ****, but as there was no where else really to go, you just had to get your supplies from there. I have spoken to many a person at shooting grounds who have echoed the same sentiments. They could have had their customers and more, they just got too big for their boots and I felt they always talked down to people. This is all IMHO, as a customer who used to live in south wales. Tree tops was almost as bad, very good ground if you could get it, only they wouldn't go the extra mile to service their customers. I have many a time rang to arrange a slot, but could never be served. It had nothing to do with being too busy, it was a matter of I can't be bothered. As they used to say years ago, its easier to keep the customers you got than to find new ones, how true. Eitherway, I am still saddened by this even though I no longer live near by, it was always a place you could go and mill around! Just my 2 cents worth.
  12. Why not try justcartridges at justcartridges.com BTW, does that mean that the treetops shooting ground is also closed now that litts have liquidated???
  13. Hi Jef, yes they are from the same litter and to be honest I am glad i got two because, if nothing else it keeps them company when I am away from them. I have now cut their feeding to 2 per day, seems has no real effect, in fact they don't even finish what i give them, so i will be looking to cut it down it bit more. As for free hunting, not quite sure what you mean, but i do let them play for a couple of minutes, then i do the fetch which i am happy to say i get 100% success rate now. I have started the heel walking and when i walk them individually they tend to walk by my side, but when both togother there is the tendency to pull ahead. I think this is just one competeing with the other for leadership. I am not too worried about this. They are coming up to 5 months now and they have done reall well to get this far, i can't really complain given the short time i am spending due to work committments. When they are older i will start the hand and whistle training although i do put some hand signals in at present. Overall I am pleased with them and if you watch them behaving you would be surprised. Anyway good luck to you too and I will post updates from time to time. Pan
  14. Might just be me, but I noticed that none of those dogs had docked tails. The two springers were undocked, not sure what happens about the other breeds. Just wondered other wise good show.
