  1. So , just hang on a minute . If we have to make all these concessions and alterations to what we shoot how does thart fit into the acceptable , replaceable , economic alternative scenario????? This whole debacle is a disgrace , the Trade have had more than twenty years to come up with a suitable alternative to Lead shot and have made very little progress , now they have to pull their finger out and come up with something in less than five years . STEEL SHOT IS NOT A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO LEAD Never has been and never will be .

  3. History will show that at this present time there is nothing as efficient, as a lethal , economic material for shot as Lead. Interesting to note that Wymberley's observation above , so really there is no new news! I am currently researching the shooting exploits of Annie Oakley who is recorded as dying of 'Pernicious Anaemia Lead Poisoning '. But she didn't suddenly die , she lived to a good age and suffered from the effects of a car accident. But in her time she most certainly handled a great deal of Lead and undoubtedly ate a great deal of Game that had been shot with Lead.
  4. Why not contact David via Linkedin and ask him?
  5. Would your gun by any chance be a Beretta? Seek the advice of a competent Instructor or a Gunsmith / Stockmaker . It could be a multitude of numerous small details , but none of us can cure the issue without seeing you and your gunfit .
  6. Well, very disappointed that I have not received any decent replies to my previous post about the effects of steelshot on grassland . Not even from Lancer . But David BASC , sorry that I elevated Peter Glenser to the position of CEO instead of his correct title of former Chair . Thankfully unlike previous BASC CEO's Peter is not anti-lead , devious or inefficient . May I remind everyone that BASC stated that they would support the use of Lead shot until such time as an efficient , economic alternative was readily available . At present that is most certainly NOT the case.
  7. David Ilsley (BASC) said:- Arguing against steel shot is totally counterproductive. Meanwhile, we see some stating a 'lets show how bad steel shot is' as a way of defending lead shot, sorry guys but that will not work! But worst of all you now start attacking the lowest cost non lead alternative, do you want to see steel shot prohibited? David , as you probably very well know , I am totally against soft iron shot as an alternative to Lead , because it is inefficient and ineffective in comparison . I am absolutely dismayed at BASC's about face , when not long ago BASC stated that there was no substantial evidence or reason to ban the use of Lead , in fact not too long ago Peter Glenser BASC CEO at the time said the debate was now over . Furthermore I notice that no one has correctly answered my questions asked in my last post !
  8. I would like to ask a question or two please. What is the effect of steelshot on grassland , meadows , and trees, is steelshot affected by chemicals used in agriculture ? Finally has anyone else noted the lack of grassland at steelstockholders, shipyards, and steelworks ?
  9. Actually I have to disagree , this mess is not of his own doing . He cheated , he altered his score card , someone in America complained , the Ground ( Northbrook SG Illinoi ) disqualified him and sent details to the NSCA ( the American governing body) NSCA have a track record for backing down when threatened with litigation . So a NDA , none disclosure agreement was entered into . This mess has been created because the correct procedure for cheating was not carried out by the Governing Associations . Cheating is cheating , no matter how you dress it up and cheats should not prosper . I am actually amazed that his 'Fan boys ' are going on line and asking "What's happened?"
  10. open end down over powder. This is Lancer's post from 4/3/2020
  11. Steve Lovatt as now decided that only competition entries can win High Gun prize at his shoots , so if you cannot shoot CPSA registered shoots because you are 'suspended' you cannot win any prize money . I thought you had to be a resident of a country you shoot for? This is a very sorry mess .
  12. Yes I have followed the thread and if you look back the bottle top wad is shown fitted the other way up , also someone commented you had fitted it upside down back a few posts . So what is the right way up please ? Proper illustrarion would be good and also dimensions for making a tool as promised earlier.
  13. Farrier, Is the bottle top card shown the correct way up ? I thought it was placed open end in first ontop of an over powder card to open out intro the bore to give a gas seal???
  14. A post from www.shotgunworld .com. When we had to go non-tox for waterfowl, there was good science that supported the need to do it.When we were forced to go non-toxic for all upland hunting, there was some marginal science to support that, but for the most part, not enough to truly support a total ban. Now, we have this ban on lead for clay targets and everything else. Absolutely crazy, as there's absolutely zero science to support shooting lead at clays causes any issue for anything or anyone. Not one thing, period. Some like to say that lead is toxic. Well, so can water be toxic. And water kills more people every year than being around or near lead does. This California ban for targets is based on going after our 2nd Amendment rights, using 100 cuts to kill rather than a big blow. So, I'm interested if Tom thinks there's an opportunity to push back here. There's no science supporting this bill. The NRA isn't going to do much, if anything to help us out.Would it make sense for us clay shooters here in California to say "hell no, we aren't going along with this. It's nothing more than an attach on our 2nd Amendment rights and lead, in this application, has no proven negative side effects".Would be interesting to hear what Tom thinks about the potential for us to push back. I mean, what can they say to "show us any research that shows lead to be a problem when used in clay target shooting". I mean, there's no bald eagles out here feasting on broken clay targets.Inquiring minds need to know.....
  15. A very interesting subject ! BASC actively promote home loading for Rifle ammunition in fact they do Courses for it , so you would think they would also support shotgun cartridge reloading? It will be interesting to hear their thoughts on the Insurance situation. Also Clay & Game Reloading advertise in BASC's in house magazine Shooting and Conservation.
  16. Lancer 425, Perhaps YOU need to know a few facts? On Wednesday I visited BASC HQ @ Marford Mill because I am so concerned about the mess BASC aND OTHER ORGANISATIONS have made of this issue. I asked who was responsible for issuing the 'voluntary lead ban statement' and was told it was the Communications Dept. I asked if I could speak with someone from that department? I was asked what did I wish to discuss ? I was then told that no one was available . I persisted and was then interviewd by a member of the Firearms Dept. I made my points of view known and the fact that BASC had issued statements not too long ago that they would support the continued use of Lead shot . ALL my points he agreed were correct and very valid . I then asked " Were the GT and Cartridge Manufacturers consulted ?" The answer was " Yes and we have documentary evidence ." Then on Friday (yesterday ) Gamebore and Lyalvale Express issue statements to the contrary . SOMEONE is not telling the truth ! Who do you think is being economical with the facts?
  17. No one who as experience with steel shot has mentioned the effect of steel shot on grass/ pastureland/ environment ! The numerous chemicals sprayed onto crops by the farming community aligned with the naturally occurring ferrous oxide of steel may have a far reaching effect on our sport?
  18. Lancer is the above a statement issued by BASC ? How come I haven't been emailed? Reference your post that the Gun Trade and Cartridge Manufacturers WERE informed , are we now saying that they are Liars? WHO do we believe?
  19. Just a thought. Could a cordless screwdriver such as the Black & Decker be adapted?
  20. Plenty of reading for those interested Google Lead Ammunition Group interestingly The Field had an article about it dated April 1st 2010🤣🤣🤣 . In a letter dated 12 July 2016 to John Swift, the Chair of the Lead Ammunition Group, Liz Truss MP said their report “did not show that the impacts of lead ammunition were significant enough to justify changing current policy.” There will therefore be no ban on lead ammunition. BASC have welcomed the government’s decision in the middle of the association’s campaign against a global lead shot ban. BASC chairman Peter Glenser said: “The government has engaged in a lengthy, evidence-based analysis of the use of lead ammunition and has found there is no reason to change the law. “Risks are there to be managed and it is quite clear from current evidence that by following FSA advice and trimming meat of shot-affected areas, the risk can be eliminated. “Unfortunately, the lead ammunition debate has been hijacked by campaigners who are looking to damage shooting as a whole. This puts them back in their box.” Amazing how the Hymn sheet can be reworded 4 years later !
  21. I do feel that this issue may be being influenced by the Big Commercial shoots need to continue to supply days of mass slaughter , pricked birds and then disposal by fair means or foul . Because of the overheads now being absorbed by commercial shooting they NEED to have big days to make it pay . Despite the many claims of shooting Pheasants at distances of upto 80 yards I note that none of the organisations have expressed any concerns about this stupid practice OR shown evidence of the sparce patterns at these sort of distances . Remember not long ago we faced bad Press about Pheasants being buried and also incinerated . This MUST stop. We really do need to get our house and sport in order . Bring back the social occasion , shoot enough to be consumed by participants , friends and family , enjoy the days , pick up your litter , don't litter in the first place , and kick this political nonsense into a distant memory . Lead is for shot , Steel is for Barrels and Car production .
  22. Will, Would that be Hodnet by any chance?😂 Deb's Open shoot this Thursday (first Thursday every month ) but you have to pre-book . See you there.
  23. See the film at 2mins 21 secs . What a clusterfook , maybe Basc need a supply of Eley Diaries with shotsize charts.
  24. Okay Computer Guru's , Would someone be so kind as to print any relevant statements issued by BASC or anyone else about the disbanding and conclusions from the LAG chaired by John Swift late of BASC. If I remember correctly after many months of meetings and deliberation , no quantifiable results were obtained for the immediate cessation of the use of Lead shot .
