  1. Allways watch out for the theorists, lol. Especialy the ones that write about other people doing the do.. Also watch out for the advice off young impresionable school boys that always has a mate who`s dads uncle brother`s sister "walks the walk" Flock train the ****er like a gundog and you aint never gona go wrong.. Oh and the bird that was shot was a Mistle Thrush, lol.
  2. Hi flock train the ****er exactly as you would a spaniel or retriever.. Stop, Stay and blind stay, return call. Leave as in dont touch that means anything including food, fur or feather. Retrieve and of course hold as in not to release. You know the crack as most of the way i have trained my last dog was based on gundog schooling. But i forgot to add the blast of the gun ,lol. One thing for sure is that you aint never got to learn the ****er to chase anything.. A good thing flock is getting the dog not to chase if you know what i mean.
  3. Avvit Avvit most novice Lurcher boys like me or Lurcher girls are going to find it a triffle hard to look for all those things when choosing a 6,7 or even 8 week old pup. Maybe to your expert eye it comes as easy as pie to spot that incredible heavy indistuctable brick?? That has a long back, strong neck and lovley angled back legs and front ones like goal posts, lol. lets simplify things eh?? Go look at this worker to worker mating that you have been so lucky to have been given the chance of aquiring a top notch hunting partner from. Its going to either a dog or a bitch, lol. Secondly pic one that you like the colour of as you would a car. Thirdly pick the ****er up love it cuddle it and let it lick your face and say to the guy this one will do for me. Because at that age you aint going to be able to pick or even tell which is going to be the Real Deal, lol. Or even the one thats going to put the most rossetes in your bag. Like any parents of a ugly child or matter of fact any pup your going to love the thing then work it and then work it some more. Handsome Barry
  4. At the end of the day its horses for courses. The Bull Bloodied and the Wheaton terrier mixture bred with a decent greyhound should produce a decent durable fox killer simple as that. If you want a Rabbiting dog then you aint going to go far wrong with a collie bloodied jobby. In what ever percentage you prefer?? YOU WOULD NOT buy a skinny whippet though these type are often used with various degrees of success. If you fancy a bit of greyhound racing then you buy a Greyhound, lol. But fleon if you do decide on a Bull type lurcher make sure it aint out of show stuff like in the picture
  5. **** me yawn yawn... Dazza you spazza put the ******* dog on a lead and walk the dog. Blow whistle for the stop command yea.. Stop walking and make the dog lie down. Give him a small reward either praise or some food, any food that he likes. Then walk on with the dog still on the lead and do the same again. Do it 3 maybe 4 times and space the time limits out. KEEP the dog ON the lead when doing this so you can push him down gently on the whistle stop comand. After a few days he will start to stop imediatly upon hearing the whistle dont under any circumstances say anything else to him apart from show him a raised hand. That hand must be the barrier to stop him. The hand is there to enforce the stop whistle command. Dont do the same training off the lead until he`s stoping every time. Do the same with him every time you excercise him. Nobba..
  6. The yellow is caused by urine stains.. End of quiz
  7. That all between five of them in 4 days.. Pooftas.. Now it would have been nice too see them all tied up in a row But it would be even better if one man and his dog had taken them and then taken a picture. No i aint going to post any Deer pictures
  8. No. Here`s what a shot rabbit looks like plinker boy
  9. Right first of all if i packed my young dog off to anyone i would bet that he would be back within days and not on his own accord, lol. As for old puss that was a road kill i found and i thought i would take a few pictures to make out that he had caught it Fleon i aint too sure what you mean by pointing? But anyway nearly all dogs will "point" (mark) its just geting a dog, well understanding a dog when its telling you there something there. Take this for instance if you walk your new dog he will sniff at hole`s and such like. When he does then stop and net the holes. Yes the ******* lot or gate net it long net it do what ever. Just make sure you catch that Rabbit. Kill the Rabbit and let him smell and play with it. Move on. Every time he stops and sniffs at a hole do exactly the same he will soon learn that there`s play time a head. Now dont do this to a 8 month old dog, well you can if you like but do this when he`s 8 weeks old. Early entering and management is a route to success. But be warned it also CAN in the wrong hands be a definate route to disaster. It realy is up to you fleon how you enter your new pup.
  10. I had to hold myself back here ollie from rearing up.. As for dogs being a liability with children then i would say YES. All dogs. Not just certain types. A working Lurcher should be broken to terriers, ferrets and all live stock and if they aint then its the owners fault end of story. The Bull type Collie cross fleon would be a Lurcher x Lurcher mating. Or in other words a Worker X Worker. Often two good working dogs mated together to produce tried and tested stock, a good way in my opinion. Fleon forget the colour of the dog or the coat type as in rough or smooth just choose from a tried and tested litter. As for size in a lurcher x lurcher mating they could well be as little as 21 or as big as 28 obviously dogs will be bigger than the bitchs. But a dog standing between 26/28 would not be a problem for me. You are going to need power fleon for those fox and Roe mate
  11. Hi fleon most lurchers will do Fox and Rabbit, Hare and Deer, lol. But for a Fox specialist you want to be looking at a Wheaton cross or Bull cross. The first cross`s in both of these breeds are ideal Digging mans dogs. Both types will be quite heavly built with a large infusion of Terrier blood in there make up they will be quite game. Ideal for drawing quarry but quite able to take rabbits. Hare`s a possability also Deer. If you want to hunt Hare or lets say all quarry then go for a 3/4 cross in either breed there you will have speed and gameness but it will be at a price. Belive me. Or you could go for a pup out of a tried and tested Collie line but again i would go for a 3/4 its more versatile if you know what i mean. Oh and forget Hancocks, lmao. good luck fleon.

    Poachers

Yea there all Scum those deer poaching ********
  13. The S also stands for Supermarket.. You see NETTO sold chepo versions from there outlets in the Derbyshire Area`s. So that gun you bought will have the same quality as there beans :yp:
  14. Hi Blunderbus as you say beware of second hand nets especialy if your a Novice like you and me. I was given a 50 yarder 4z and to be honest its been a pain in the **** from day one and still is today. There`s something about this net that just wont let me pick it up correctly or even drop the poxy thing right at time`s. Im sure the guy who gave it to was having a laugh :yp: ?? Another net i brought second hand was a 20 yard 6z which should have been a 25 yarder. Now quite often rabbits bounce of this net as there quite aint enough bagging in it. But hey it keeps the dog on his toes. Could do with being a 16 yarder realy. As for long netting there`s no subtitute for experience YOU or anyone else just wont learn by reading books. You need to be geting out there and trying to thread that ready set net through the sheep wire fencing or under the barbed wire Always spun nylon 6z..
  15. Lamping with a shotgun Or ten of us hosing them down with lead of back of truck Here`s a picture of a true traditional nighthunter
  16. Polumbus Blunderbus you say you have seen the nylon type of long net? Obviously your no pegger as you would not have passed judgement in that way you wrote it. You have no knoledge on the subject so if i were you keep those chubby didgits OFF the key board regarding long netts. Brinded does indeed do a finely made NYLON net and i would recomend one in 6z. The Hemp longnets do take some looking after and in today hectic living fast track world would soon perish with the constant abuse. The other day i used a Ready pegged nett 4z made by the Magnum trap company the quality was superb with top quality head and foot line. Last a few years too
  17. Marked line cranny is a Bas***d around tree roots worse than any collar, lol. But like you say the best invention since Antibiotics those locater`s As for stickers in car windows i took all mine out after an incident involving some couple driving through Manchester. THEY had a Ban Hunting With Dogs sticker in the side window so i attempted to force them off the road Easly labeled you see plus i dont want Meeky to reconise me as he`s threatened to bot me
  18. I have never seen or heard of a Ferret caught up by the collar by any roots but i have seen them get tangled in the purse nets by them. But if these collars impeed your ferrets then i sugest your ferrets are too small for the job in the first place. If they aint strong enough to move around with a collar on then they aint going to push past a strong Buck rabbit, lol. Come on cranny treat your self to another collar for the ferrets and enjoy Hi willy that picture aint of me its of this Welsh poof that accompanied me out a few days ago. I had to black his face out as his skin complection was quite off putting Here`s another picture i took today at a place where i always use to walk past because it was too difficult to work (Ferret). I used one of my small gills on her second season and she worked great.
  19. Thats a special purpose spade made by bulldog crany called the Rabbiting spade/Planting spade the reference number in the Bulldog catalouge is 5514T28n. The Trenching spade or cable layers spade aint too good. The Grafting shovels are ok but a little too heavy. The spade in the picture is good and i mean real good its what every pro Rabbiter needs, lol. As for collar`s cranny YOU and everyone else SHOULD use collars on all ferrets well if you value them. Makes the job easyier and faster. I would never ever enter anyone of my ferrets with out there collars on. Time to change your ways old boy, lol. As for Hobs versus Gills i have allways worked gills but this season i have started with a strong dog ferret and i wish i had used one sooner. He sure means bussiness when he`s in the ground they either bolt or they die, lol. Im having him vasectamised if thats how you spell it when his balls drop. Here`s a better picture of the spade along with a bulldog round mouth shovel for terrier use.
  20. Hi Rabbit hunter if your looking for a purpose made shovel look no further than the "Rabbiting spade" made by Bulldog tools. Around £30 could be more could be less. I have used this shovel the one in the picture for the last 3 seasons and its the best bit of kit i own, lol. There`s nothing worse than using inferiour tool for a mans job some of these ex army shovels either new, folding or suplus types just aint up to the job. As for how long a ferrets down there aint no time limit or best time to wait? Use your common sence if your ferreting a small place and the ferret aint shown for 10 minutes or so then go give him an hand. He might be in a stop end with one or several bunnies. Dig him out and move on then you have save 10 or 20 minutes standing around. If you have a scan with the locater and the ferrets moving then stand back and get ready. If ferreting big places then pour the ferrets in and get the action started.
