Thank you gentlemen, mixed deeks it is!

For your useage I'd recommend the 410, I've had one now have a 510. If you were target shooting I'd probably go with the HW100, I've shot one extensively and that extra heft gives it slightly more stability when rested. If it was me buying and maybe wanting to do both I'd buy the 410, then sell it on and buy a 510...or just go buy a 510. Best all round gun I've ever owned.

I'll take the thermals please, you have PM -
Tidy truck and tempting, but I am really wanting a proper old nail to pound into the farm tracks at half this price!!!

Glen Moray, liked since the first sip. But for everday drinkables you can't go wrong with a bottle of Tesco own brand Grouse!

All I'm going to say about obtaining land to shoot over is this. DON'T assume that the traditional ways of obtaining permissions is the only way. Door knocking works, but it's not the be all and end all, use the modern technology that is available to you. I speak as a man who knocked well over 100 farm doors without any luck! At the same time, get your skills up to a level where if and when you do get permission, you will have the ability to do the job you have been asked to do. If you are shooting airguns, then look to be able to achieve sub 15 mm groups at hunting ranges. If shotgunning then I'd say you want to be hitting 60% as a minimum on clays. As for shooting FAC, I have no idea what constitutes good enough!

As per the title, I'm after some more decoys and as quickly as possible. Is there anywhere in Sussex or Surrey that sells decoys of decent quality off the shelf?
-
Just wondering really, what would happen if I put out some crow decoys as well as some pigeon decoys? Would either put the other quarry off, or is it viable and if so any do's or don'ts regarding the pattern?

Is it just me? I have contacted four local NSRA listed, shooting/target clubs by email enquiring after membership requirements. 10 days later not one of them has bothered to reply. Are they all like this?

Yup, another vote for Vaillant! You have a good boiler on a sheeite system, sort the system first mate. Bit much? Quick Google thows up pumps for an Ecotec Pro 28 for £120+VAT.....that leaves several hours (days?) of fitting to be accounted for.

LOL! Why did you feel it was unexpected when all the bookies had Wales to win? I hoped England could sneak it but knew they had a hard job to beat Wales...I didn't expect such a comprehensive drubbing though!

I did see and digest your reply and to be honest thought I had replied to it, having just checked it's clear that I didn't. I had been in discussion with someone else as well and may have replied twice to them, either way it's appalling manners and I apologise profusely. I thought that I had done enough with the hide I built, and indeed put a camo net roof over it, but it became evident that there were two problems with it. One, the roof was inadequately supported and as it got wet it sagged creating problems with vision and getting up from under it, and two, as I said earlier, some crows obviously spotted it or me. I was in full DPM with gloves and veil as advised but maybe not still enough. Please do not be offended by my apparent inability to take good advice, it's more a case of being unable to convert that to a viable version. Once I again I aoplogise for my crassness.

I've had similar with a Tuna steak in a couple of places recently. I've stipulated that I only want it seared really and the middle must remain pink, much like rare beef. 'Sorry, it must be fully cooked, H&S etc', I asked where's the difference between a rare beef or tuna steak re cooking etc. Was told they couldn't do fish rare, so I told them I didn't want it then!

It does, but like you I don't have a club close enough. I do some HFT as well as the hunting, black powder doesn't appeal at the moment although... A nice Damascus barelled SxS hammer gun does quite appeal, just not sure when I'd use it!

Nah, it'll have gone off by now. Best send it down and I'll use it for stripping paint.

I currently have a couple of shotguns and the air rifle in the cabinet, but I'm beginning to get the itch for something new. I don't really need anything else shotgun wise, I feel the 525 is ideal for me on the clays and occasional other use. The Hatsan does me well on the marsh and I can see no reason not to use it on the pigeons and crows and i can't see it being likely that I'll find a better gun than the AirArms for a sub-12 air rifle. So, whats the natural progresion from here? I shoot rabbits on smaller permissions with the air rifle and have recently picked up a decent farm permission with crows and pigeons as well as rats and rabbits, but not fox, we co-exist with a game shoot and they do fox control...so, where do I go from here? I'm thinking FAC for either a .22lR, .17HMR or possibly a FAC S/A shotgun, feel free to throw other options in the mix though!

Having discovered today that my hide build is not good enough for the crows (except some real dense ones!), I'd like to know... How do you build yours, particularly interested in roof construction techniques?
-
It's explosive ignition, caused by a slow ignite which allows more gas/air mix to build up than normal which then ignites in the combustion chamber usually but i have seen a flame exit the flue! Have you had it serviced recently? A few things can cause it but a common one is the gap on the spark electrode (bit like a spark plug), if it's too wide or close then a weak/small spark is produced and bingo! Boom! Oh, to put your mind at rest, generally alarming but not dangerous. Does need sorting though.

+1. I like to be able to rest the butt on my left hand for stability when shooting of a bench.

Not a Co2, but I suspect it may be a Logun S-16s?

The original post discussing someone who initially shot clays and wanted to move on, shocker was they asked some 'silly' questions, but they did ask them before pulling the trigger. What you've morphed it into. It wasn't obvious that you were talking about wildfowling. You're now backpeddling from your 'Everyone should be able to ID all quarry' to 'I'd expect a clay shooter to know some basic rules etc', bit of a step back. Shooting test? Great idea, put another obstacle in the way of new blood into the sport. Do us both a favour, next time you want to tell someone they aren't fit to hold a SGC, pick on someone smaller. I stand by my original assessment, and this is my final input into this thread..
