Scrapped post...because I really can't be ***** with the nit picking.

Currently have a 2.5TDI Passat, so not a million miles away I wouldn't have thought, but the Allroad is of course 4wd.
-
Thinking of buying a 3.0 diesel Audi allroad. Anyone own or owned one who can tell me what they are like to live with in the longterm?

And I'm sure you're not alone, in fact I know you're not as I'm exactly the same and I'm equally sure that like us, there are plenty of people who learn what they need to as they go along. Anser2 made a comment earlier along the lines of 'If you do not understand that everyone should understand the quarry list and how to ID then perhaps you should question your ownership of your SGC.' which I couldn't be bothered to answer as it would just be repeating myself. But it's bloody obvious that you don't need any ability to identify quarry if you only shoot clays, and as for questioning my SGC ownership, that is exactly the type of idiotic, negative comment that would put off a newbie from asking another question whereas I, being thicker skinned, just stick with thinking 'muppet!'.
-
Hahahahaha, no buddy, that's not how I personally feel about things that are said to me, my skins plenty thick enough to deal with any on here, but a new shooter who asks what he/she feels is a valid question, only to be shot down in flames or even to be told they don't deserve to be in possession of a certificate because they don't have that knowledge, isn't very likely to stick around, or ask another question come to that are they?

LOL! I'll be using that one tomorrow. Not going to bother commenting on the shoddy install, enough been said already to put you right.

As a Full Member of KWCA, the following applies, it's been lifted from their website. What it doesn't say is how long in advance you need to book a permit. I'd suspect that they can't be done on the day though which kills it for me. I like to be able to look at the rapidly worsening weather and making the snap decision to get down the marsh. Shooting Permits All KWCA shooting areas are controlled by a permit system that allows us to carefully regulate shooting over its 60 miles of coastline and 13000 acres of marsh and mudflats. Once you have joined the Kent Wildfowlers as a full member, permits are free; you can collect in person, have them send by post or, in some cases, get them online. Permits can be valid for half day, a day or a month depending on the area. Areas have rest periods ranging from; shot five times per season to shot every day of the year. There is no limit to the number of times you can go, provided there is a place available on the marsh you wish to shoot. There is always somewhere to go shooting; monthly permit areas are open all season and once you have a permit you are free to make as many visits as you want. Permits double as site record cards. The return of permits therefore fulfils the important function of data collection; this data is analysed and retained by us in order for us to better understand how our marshes are being used. The club has built up a considerable amount of historical data about the marshes and the wildlife that lives there, and enables us to use accurate data to counter any accusations levied at us by those opposed to our sport. The system of permits allow us to limit the numbers of people allowed to shoot a particular area of marsh as well as the dates when a marsh is rested and no one is allowed on the marsh. Maps showing the different permit areas as well as shooting dates and any local restrictions, are issued to club members. Permits are freely available to members from Permit Issuing Officers, who usually live close to the area of marsh that they supervise.

Why? You don't need to be shooting at anything to gain a SGC. I was asked what I wanted one for and said it was for clays, at no point was it checked as to whether I went on to do that. Had I been so inclined, I could have bought a gun 'Just in case!'. Everybody starts somewhere, and for an increasing number I suspect that somewhere is from a point of ignorance. You then go on to learn what you need to, and if that is via PW, is that such a bad thing? Surely if they have taken the time and trouble to ask the question, they will at least look at the information they receive and make a judgement from there? Personally, when I wanted to try 'fowling I joined a club with the knowledge that I would be a probationer for a full season and then tested at the end of it, that was after asking a few questions on here. As SGC holders we are supposed to be a responsible bunch, yet people who don't have the knowledge and ask the questions are somehow being vilified almost, as inadequate.

LOL! That may be a little harsh, although I do find that those who shout loudest about this being a shooting forum, not a grammar forum, do tend to be those least able. I don't actually care too much anymore. Some things may make me cringe a little inwardly, but to be honest, apart from the posts that I genuinely have to make an effort to decipher, I now tend to agree with the 'live and let live' sentiment already expressed.
-
Which comes back to the issue of it being pest control. I am a 'fowler and on the marsh wouldn't shoot more than a couple for several reasons, all of which previously mentioned. However, if I was on a permission and asked to get rid of as many as possible due to the damage they're doing, that's exactly what I'd do. Cull as many as I could until the moved on and try and make sure none of them were wasted.

It's just you. For it to be about race they'd need to be 'picking on' one race, they're not, unless 'Immigrant' has become a race? They have some good ideas and some not so good but, many elements of their thinking are to me a breath of fresh air. 'Life means life', 'Bootcamps', 'Matrons to run hospitals, not non-clinically trained managers', all of the previous make absolute sense to me.

I average about 65%, and think that's pretty poor. Judging by some of the responses here maybe I shouldn't be quite so hard on myself!

If it beats a big bass under full steam running with the tide...I'll enjoy it!

With you on just about every word of that post, apart from the bonefish bit. Never caught one so don't know if I'd like to (although I have to suspect it would be highly amusing!). Been there done that with carp (well, 34lb biggest), also did match fishing for a few years before getting bored of tiddler bashing. This was in the days before when they started stocking ponds with 3-4lb carp and then match fishing for them! Got bored with most of it and now, like my shooting, I'm mainly only interested in catching something I can (and will) eat.

Can't help but agree with this ^^^.

Ricky Gervais isn't funny. Never has been, probably never will be. Just my opinion of course.

I can see both sides of the argument here, but have voted with my own personal experience here in the South East. Unfortunately it isn't good either. I have dragged several hundred metres off the beaches over the last few years, I can't say why they had broken free but they had. I've seen nets set within 50 metres of the low water mark, that's within reach of any day angler, small boat, swimming dog or human. I've seen nets pulled which contained mainly undersized Bass, well, undersized for rod and line anglers anyway, I assume it must be different for netters for some reason? I understand how mesh sizes should eliminate the undersize take but it's obviously not foolproof. On the one occasion I did enquire politely of a netter for the answer to a couple of the above questions, I was lless politely told to go forth and multiply. Maybe I am tarring all with the same brush, but I call it as I see it and it's not a single isolated situation.

Ok, if it makes you happier, the Huntsman is a good gun, the Super10 is well liked by many and has a good rep but I'm not a fan of them personally. No need to lock it, bored about a page ago, too many people talking ******** and not listening...still. I'm done here.

Christ! Another comment I've not heard since school. How do you know I've never tried one? You don't. How do you know whether I've ever picked one up even, you don't. However, on both counts I have, and I didn't like it. Must admit, I missed the sub standard comment but I stand by my assertion that they are built down to a price and feel it. Now why don't you and Mal run along and go make mud pies together or something equally challenging and accept that other people can have an opinion as well.
-
Nobody said it was sub standard, just built down to a price, added to that Karpman said that he didn't like the feel of it. Personal opinion, nothing more, albeit an opinion I agree with. So do yourself a favour and grow up a bit yourself.

I planted out six plants of 6 varieties last year, 36 plants in total which were the strongest seedling from at least twice that many, by the time the floods had passed i think I had 5 plants left and lost the last of those to the frosts. To be honest I was so peed off about it I just didn't bother to bring them in!

Pigeon/crow/rough shooting in Sussex.
-Mongrel- replied to -Mongrel-'s topic in Sporting Opportunities (Paid)
If you are prepared to do the miles, feel free to make your case by PM. I'd prefer local guns as they ae more likely to make the effort to get on the land, but if you have something to offer in the way of experience or bags of spare time etc... -
I am in the process of setting up a small syndicate of like minded souls and have just had a major break through in the way of a fairly decent farm perm with another larger farm to follow...if I do this one right! I already have a couple of smaller perms and am actively looking for others....you wouldn't believe how this one came about if I told you, which maybe I will one day! As such I am looking for maybe half a dozen 'local' shooters who are happy to work within the syndicate framework, who have experience in any aspect of the above, and who are prepared to put themselves out a bit in return for their shooting. By that I mean you need to be prepared to do regular crow shoots as well as potentially doing some ratting and rabbitting when required as well as probably giving up a day to help out on the farms occasionaly or maybe if you are skilled, a couple of freebie jobs. The upside is there should be some serious pigeon shooting available in due course SO LONG AS THE CROWS GET SORTED. Current best bag on the farm is 565 in a day. It was being shot by the resident game syndicate, they have now decided it's beneath them so it's being offered. This is only a out of game season opprtunity as they do some big game days on the land too and understandably don't want people blasting away in season. If you have some experience, particularly of shooting crows in large numbers, and feel this may be of interest to you, and, if you live within say 45 miles of Brighton and especially if you can shoot mid week, get in touch, give me as many pertinent details as you can and we'll talk further. You will need to be insured, ideally through BASC, but verifiably either way and obviously a SGC holder, although airgunners feel free to give me a missive as roost shooting is on the cards as well. PLEASE DON'T PUT YOUR DETAILS BELOW, PERSONAL MESSAGE IS THE WAY FORWARD!

Ain't that the truth! 20 metre or less summer drift dives, filling the goodie bag with scallops, lobsters, crabs and flatties! Happy days! Not overly surprised about the lack of helpers with the congers though! I honestly thought a 2lb crab was going to kill me one dive, I reached in under a rock ledge to hoik it out, got my hand over its claw, which it promptly clamped against its body and then locked itself into its nook!!!! 3 people were trying to lever the ****** out, but it was looking as though I'd run out of air before the crab did! Eventually we decided to give it 5 minutes left alone, while I tried to keep calm, and I swear it was at 4:59 it finally decided to relax and move forward enough to allow me to rip my hand free!!! Happy days again!!! Hit the top with under 10 bar!
