  1. No, they don't all DD. I had a Diamond X and know of 3 others, none of which double discharged. I think they are one and the same thing.
  2. Bettinsoli are more renowned for not setting the second pin due to the springs being over strong. I wasn't aware of them being known for double discharge although you've obviously sen a couple I don't think I've come across it among myself and 3 others I have known to have Bettis.
  3. The fact that only one shooter suffered the DD's would suggest to me that he/she was causing the second barrel to discharge almost simultaneously. Was it definitely both barrels at exactly the same time or could it have been one immediately after the other? Is it possible they weren't fully releasing the trigger allowing the second hammer to fall as it was set? I confess that I don't actually know how possible that is but it seems feasible, otherwise what else could cause it?
  4. Sorry if you thought that was aimed at you personally, it wasn't, it was just a reiteration of what I was trying to elicit. I already have a site up and running which uses the obvious keywords, I was fishing for the less obvious mate. I save my sense of humour for weekends only, it's too dry for daily use.
  5. Even an illiterate like me had managed to get that far, I'm looking for all the other things that people may type in when looking ffor a resolution. If I stuck with just Free vermin control, what would make my site stand up in front of everybody elses? That said, this is intended to work in conjunction with other methods rather than as a stand alone although the pevious version did get me a small pemission on its own merit!
  6. It's ok, it won't cost anyone anything! I'm after your thoughts only! Quick as you can though please. If you were setting up a website that you intended to push as a vermin control site ie 'Free rabbit control' etc, what would be the words that you think people would use when searching Google etc for someone to eliminate a vermin problem?
  7. LOL, he did, have a search for the 14 shot/40 yard videos. Got to agree to be honest, got to get the vid camera fixed as well though before I say too much!
  8. Are you SURE you want to know?
  9. Top link, Scroll down to 'Below is a list of Beretta choke markings'... http://bit.ly/11RkQFt
  10. Christ! There's some proper wrong 'uns in there! At least they are currently caged!
  11. Similar. Been doing it for 25 years now and utterly bored with it. Hate going to work, don't mind it when I get there, relieved to get home! I would really like to change job and doing something worthwhile, but my outgoings require a certain level of remuneration that I'm not going to get from a trainee-ship. Not really sure what to do about it at the moment, may have to do something like a OU course to put the ball in motion, but the thought of being a plumber/gas engineer for another 20 years or so is really unappealing! :-(
  12. That is quite possibly the stupidest post I've seen on PW! Try that one with me bud and expect to be in court on an assault charge. I would most certainly have said something, but throwing a gun around and then assaulting them? Really? I don't know about man up, try GROW UP!
  13. Hastings really is a **** hole but, if you do end up in Sussex, we're in Brighton and would happily show you around.
  14. It's just the way of forums isn't it? Rarely does a post stay on topic for that long and the question was answered so no real harm dome IMO. I'm quite pleased it did after I was basically told I was unsafe, as I now find that if that is the case, then so are most of the genuine (as opposed to armchair) shooters out there. A loaded but open gun seems the norm on a rough shoot with some using a closed gun with safetys applied and in a hide I would expect the gun to be loaded and closed with safetys on because most of the time you'll be holding it so should be aware of barrel orientation, and trying to close a gun in a net hide is just asking for it to get snagged.
  15. At no point have I advised anybody walk around with a closed, loaded shotgun. So where exactly is the problem? Are you going to tell me you stand on a peg with a open shotgun and no cartridges in it? When rough shooting, how exactly do you go from your open, unloaded shotgun to a firing point in time? I will concede that I am no game shot, but I am a rough and pigeon shooter and wildfowler. I also shoot a lot of clays, and accept that at the ground there is absolutely no excuse for having either a loaded or unbroken gun anywhere other than when in the stand, I don't feel that it can carry over to MOST live shooting though. A clay ground is completely controlled, there are no unexpected variables and you know exactly where and when you are shooting, the same can't be said about the field.
  16. I'd hazard a guess at clay grounds only. The 'rules' apply for clays but just aren't practical in the field. How are you supposed to drop a safety flag out, load, mount, slip the safety and get a shot off before the quary has disappeared into the next county? IMO an open gun is safe enough, unload it if crossing stiles/fences etc. With a S/A, mine has a magazine lock off which allows me to unload the chamber easily. I have walked across the marsh with two in the magazine but none in the tube, a quick cycle and it's loaded. Not as quick as walking around loaded, but safer and still gives you a chance at unexpected action.
  17. ...and rightly so I'd say. I have to say, ignoring my anti RSPCA sentiment as a shooter, I too have had cause to call them out for badly treated dogs on two occasions, on both occasions they did next to nothing other than turning up once and pledging to keep an eye on the situation. Must have bloody good binoculars is all I can say. Trouble is, they are a major force in rehoming etc, and while you may disagree with their methods, the pets of this country would be worse off without them.
  18. We do two or three litter pics a year, last one was a couple of weeks ago and there will be another after the season ends.
  19. Personally, I'd mention it to him face to face, and just tell him that you feel it was a little inappropriate. If as you say, he is a decent enough bloke he should see it and avoid doing similar in future.
  20. Sorry can't agree with that particular comment. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Bettinsoli Diamond, I had one for over a year, but, I recently traded it in (lost £50 on it, I can live with that) and bought a Browning 525. The Browning is softer shooting, better balanced and better finished. All in all it's a better gun. As I said there's nothing wrong with the Betti and it served me faultlessly, and at it's price mark it's a decent buy without doubt. It's not as good as my 525 or the Silver pigeon though. As for the comment about they will do what a Browning/Beretta will do, well a Beretta will do what a Perazzi does, which will do what a Purdey does ie, they will all shoot things, but that's not what it's all about at the end of the day is it? You pay more for a nicer looking, or hand built, or whatever-it-is-that-floats-your-boat upgraded gun, and almost invariably it enhances your shooting experience. I shoot better wiith my 525 but that may just be that it fits me better, but I also enjoy shooting it more, it feels better and as such is worth the money for that alone.
