  1. Just about finished, be a final polish in a couple of days....
  2. To Ditchie , I havnt , only use a hot air gun , most bends are local ,so only heat up where needed, then fully let cool to set ! Years ago when working in a car plant used infa red heaters in the trim , softens door welts etc before fitting, if doing mass of sticks probably make a steamer
  3. Oh also wanted a couple of thumb sticks , the briar on the left & blackthorn on the right ! For beating...
  4. Skipped a few pics in build ! Once spacers in situ , cut shanks at 30' angle, then slowly dry fitted together using chalk to show high points ,once good *** achieved glued up , then onto fit & finish. Nearly all done by eye alone , file,& scraping, when happy , sand back ,to 400 , then wet & dry ,600,800,1200. Buff show scratches & start again till happy, I've fitted ferrules, will post when shanks been done Ferrules fitted , coat of danish. Post when done
  5. Next suitable shanks , these wanted to be black thorn , thorns cut & filed, then straightend took about 4 days in total, using hot air gun & pinch method, pretty straight! Also cast resin spacers , angle cut at 30' glued up, remember drill first before cut ! Fitted onto 8mm stainless pin
  6. After initial bending, use a former, any shape to your taste, heat with hot air gun till malleable then bend and let cool , start to rough out desired shape, file scrap etc , quick polish, the final shape will alter when shanked
  7. So horns boiled for a fair while put some heat into them, then onto a bending jig , using a hot air gun , clamps & sash clamps slowly bend round the jig , once bent leave 24hrs to cool
  8. Trying to sort photos so bear with me..
  9. So picked a couple of grade 2 horn in the rough & cut / sanded roughly to shape before bending,
  10. Hi I havnt made a stick in months due to house renovations & more. Was approached, for two nose out crooks, with double spacers on blackthorn! On buffalo horn , which is like rocking horse doo dah ! So should of said no , but up for the challenge.......
  11. Mines a 3 litre diesel, 4 cylinder , road tax is about £280 a year if I remember...
  12. Plug fitted, the eddison bulb ,throws a warm glow, cheers for the reviews
  13. stipped& cleaned a 1958 guardsman tilley lamp up, came off the old line here, must of been my g.dads! Paint flaking off & top badly corroded, electrified, fitted an eddison bulb, made a walnut base , bit different, makes a side lamp
  14. So house is getting a bit of work done it , the kitchen was ripped out literally, salvaged most of it & repurposed into the shed/workshop , created a lot more storage & definitely cleaner ( for now ) also fitted a used window on the back ( left ) let's more light in , the sill on the inside is to tidy it up , bandsaw to go & will fit tooling rack on far end wall , not perfect but a lot tidier than what is was !
  15. Shooting position is not like looking down a scope , as long as you keep the rifle steady ,just look at the screen, stock length ont an issue on this one as its a grs , fully adjustable, handy if using a pard 007 , or getting perfect cheek weld & position on a day scope
  16. On & off the rifle, what we were using about 15 years ago , just uprated the I.r , tried it the other night, conditions good , you could easily shoot at 300yds if yo wanted to with it , it's a better picture than the pard , not a drone ! Not every ones cup of tea , but comfortable to shoot with, cheapish & easily fixable, good back up unit Side view , it actually looks & feels better on the rifle
  17. It's one of Daves boxes , they were all pretty generic , just different takes on dsa & internals people used ,dave used 18650 cells ,this one uses 12v lithium, also uses a 12v buck driver for the I.r, instead of 3 modes ,it's fully dimmable, if you want to kill the I.r , big difference in performance is the vscel diode& cctv lens , far better than the old osram & t38/50 aspheric lens
  18. Pcb board & heatsinking! Sorry its a predictive txt thing
  19. The lens housing for the lens it's fully adjustable so can achieve perfect I.r , I was out by under 2mm , but adjusted works spot on , vscel & pub sits on a solid pill so really good heating...
  20. Many moons ago before commercial units where they are now today, used to tinker with your own , I've gone through boxes of stuff I had, revised a screen set up , not to everyone's taste but it works well & cheap for its performance level! The dsa is a cobra merlin, Marky delrin housing for an e700 camera/16mm lens , the main body is a somebloke box, 5 inch screen , 12v lithium battery, dimmer,on/off ,1 amp buck driver ,run through a filter to stop any signal interface on the screen, the I.r is a vscel 850 diode ,I reflowed onto a golden dragon pub, it sits in a custom housing on a solid pill , fitted with a 25mm cctv lens , give better performance than the yukon & a lot lighter! It works really well on a scope, better image than a pard , I fitted it on a delta titanium 4-30 x50 ,easily mag past 20 , very shootable past 300yds or down to 20yds ! Not every one's cuppa, but it's cheap ,works ,easily fixable, makes a good back up unit. 20220503_143743.heic 20220503_143743.heic
  21. Cheers gents this is how it starts off in life , bit of work involved even before bending...
  22. To be honest be a lot of answers, after final shaping, usually scrape with a new stanly blade , sand to 240 , then wet & dry through to 1200 , put it on a mop with a bit of polishing soap , shows up all the faults , start again, till happy, found autoglym car polish on the mop & cherry blossom black works well to get a good shine....
  23. Havnt made anything in buffalo for awhile, these two are for someone who's getting married in a few weeks, as gifts , ones on hazel, bronze/copper spacer other is on a stripped holly ,hopefully finished by the end of the week...
  24. Cheers , would say they didn't have a hard life , maybe I've been unlucky , when googled was a common fault , repaired one, its where the copper wire comes off the coil & attaches to motor body if that makes sense....
  25. Cheers , looking at wecher flexi shaft set up in the future, I've gone through 3 dremmels in the past, the copper snaps in the motor, common problem, fixed but gone again, so off dremmels! Will see ....
