  1. This was resin left in the bottoms of the mixing beakers , I faced it off on the lathe and centre drilled it , now fitted & glued up onto a couple of buffalo tops , bit of an experiment, bit different, if you look at one of the tops it's got a delam/crack init , not visible before shaping ! Maybe more yet ! If paying £20-30 plus now for buffalo horn you still carnt guarantee what's inside it.
  2. So finished up , burl oak& purple heart on hazel , the acacia & walnut is on a chestnut ( like the grain in this ) the twister is hazel , distressed the shank , personally like it , top is a team tractor one , lastly a market stick on hazel with a bit more sapele...
  3. The new bandsaw been a godsend , can now turn what would be scraps into useful pieces, mixture of burl oak, purple heart ,walnut ,ply , acacia , team tractor sapele & something I'm not sure of ! So bits cut , glued up , clamped & cut to size , marked patterns out , cut out the shapes , onto sanding& shaping, then fit & finish.
  4. With old boggy , heard it came from that part of the world ...

  8. Cheers ! Getting there but still room for improvement, I've just made some casting resin up with different pigments , hopefully cure ok , hopefully going to make spacers for next lot of buffalo I do , if goes to plan be a bit funky !
  9. This is actually the first Cardigan I've made , don't know why really , it's alder with a thin walnut strip on a bit of a scabby blackthorn shank ...just giving it a coat of danish ..
  10. Bet both be made up with them , brass looking good , going for a 3 spacer set up with different materials! It's not a bad hobby to have...
  11. Cheers , everyone, just sealed the shanks , except the stripped one , going to leave for a bit , see if it oxidises , turns a bit yellow , match the spacers , when last of the buffalo I have rus out , will have to turn into more rams horn in the future, will see what happens..
  12. Bent a batch of buffalo up , getting hard to get & expensive these days , some different shapes , couple fitted with brass spacer, other two , used box wood , bit different, got to fit ferrules & danish the shanks up yet ! Over a weeks work involved in that lot....
  13. Taken last evening, used to play off here as kids , swimming & mud slides into the gutters , treading flat ties! Now rushes as far as the eye can see , path no longer visible out , spring well still here !
  14. Looks good, rustic , in a complimentary way ! No idea what I'm going to do with it , got another 2 in the garage, one day will have to have a sort out...
  15. Just a simple one , coat and key rack , antler points fixed with m8 stud & nuts , norma 223 shells for key holders , norma 22-250 case ends for screw covers , built on using a bit of team tractor oak ....

  21. Couple of hours this afternoon, trying to get motivated to go out foxing tonight, spalted beech off the rings cut off a fallen tree on the estate , first ones I've done in spalted , more a rack stick than a working stick , ones on a chestnut shank other hazel , I'm just danish oiling them , soaking in like crazy , once sealed probably lacquer them up ..
  22. I've shaped these up this afternoon, two are spalted beech , others are a mixture of cut offs , from cherry , ash , walnut & couple of dont knows ! Need to sort & straighten shanks out next
  23. Finally finished laburnham lamp off ! Quite like it ...
  24. Theres faults on both of these if you look , surprisingly it's not that hard to have a go in wood , be nice if people give it a try , the big bandsaw is handy now , as can cut veneers , so can maximize what you can get out of a piece of wood !
