  1. Out of interest how much did you pay for this? If you dont mind me asking. You can PM if you like. The only reason I ask is because I have one of these cracking little guns and I previously had no idea what model its was and how much it would be worth. All I know is it was a Rizzini. I purchased it from a hard up gamekeeper about 10/ 12 years ago now. I will be perfectly honest with you though as nice a gun as it is I'm none to cleaver with it Cheers Colin
  2. PM sent regarding the FUDS decoys
  3. Thank alot for your replies fellas. I just got my Joe Irving book turn up in the post this morning. I'm looking forward to some bed time reading now I'm going to look into some of the other suggestions too as you can never have enough good books. Thanks again guys
  4. Hello, After viewing and carefull accessing a few litters of cocker pups I have now purchased my stunning little 9 week old chocolat cocker bitch. When she comes of age I want to be able to train her to come pigeion shooting and beating with me. Can anyone recommend a good book or DVD that will help me with her trainging. I am after general obidience ( sit, stay, come to - by whistle ) and also basic gun dog skills like search retrieve etc. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks guys and girls Colin
  5. I've not really experienced such high rape crops at such an early stage before. I'm in South Lincs/ Northants near Stamford and the rape crops are cracking on to knee hight already. I'm guessing that after a few sharp frost it will slow it down a bit but will still be well up there by then. I'm wondering; If the pigeons are still on the stubbles or feeding in the woods still and with them not likely to hit the rape in large numbers in maybe November time when the stubbles are ploughed and the nuts have dried up, will they still be likekly to get on the rape. I'm aware it will maybe be thier only option and will still feed in it at any hight but I'm also aware that they prefere a younger sweeter crop to feed on. Any thoughts??
  6. I would with out a doubt recomend o2. I had it my old house and never had 1 problem and customer service was second to none, not to mention they are the cheapest around. I recently moved to a remote village where I am sure they have only just become aware of electricity I could not get my o2 broadband as was outside the exchange. I decided to lump together my Sky package and have it all on one bill so got my TV Broadband and home phone with them as was already a Sky customer. What a HASSLE! It took 3 weeks for them to sort out my broadband and home phone with me spending over £100 yes £100 in phone calls to them! I didn't realise how bad Sky customer services is. They promise the world and never deliver. I am now sorted and have my full Sky package. I would have told them to stick it after the first week if it wasn't for them being slightly cheaper than BT, of who were my only other option because of the exchange issue. So if you are within the o2 exchange area i would definately recommend them for broadband ( you also get discount if you have a mobile number with them. I got it when they first launched it and if it wasn't cheap enough, with my discount I had super fast, unlimited broadband for £7.50 a month fixed!!) and where possible be cautious about Sky - they really don't believe in better. They believe in messing thier customers about something rotten!
  7. Hi all, If anyone has any Pigeon Shooting DVD's kicking about that they don't want and would be happy to let them go to a good home then I would be very gratefull to take them off your hands and put them to good use. Thanks Guys
  8. How would you set up your pattern to draw them to it? Should my pattern be set out differently if I use a magnet rather than not using one. I would say with a standard cross wind situation i'd have a horse shoe with my magnet at the head of the pattern??
  9. Thanks Cosd, Once again sound sensible advice.
  10. I know there may be other threads on this topic but was just wondering how do you know what is the best speed to set your magnet at, should you have a speed controller? I don't currently have a speed controller and was wondering do I really need one? On one thread a chap said ''The effective adjustment range we have found is 30-45 RPM. Hot or windless days = slower rpm cold or windier days faster RPM.'' Which I'm sure is sound advice but how do you know what 30-45 RPM looks like ??
  11. Thanks Cos, That makes loads more sense to me now!
  12. ''Or a single 17-18 amph lead sealed acid battery will last forever'' What would be the difference? Sorry for my stupidity, I know **** all about batteries. cheers
  13. Hi all, Am looking at getting a new battery for my rotary/magnet but don't know a great deal about Amps and such things so was hoping some of you kind folks could point me in the right direction. Have been looking at one on Ebay and seems OK but not sure. Its a 12v motorcycle sized battery aparently specifically for pigeon magnets. It 7.2AH ?? is this good? They claim in the listing that it runs up to 12 hours! I spoke to someone and I'm sure they said I want something with at least 30 Amp. I may be wrong but I'm sure thats what he said. Anyway I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link here or not but i'll try to link the one I was thinking about getting from Ebay for around £20 inc. postage (which I thought wasn't bad) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170487410844&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT ( sorry Eds if I'm not allowed to post links ) Thanks Guys Colin

    Sun

I was once shooting over rape and the pigeons were only dropping right in thr middle of the field. My only option was to set up my hide at the base of a single oak tree that stood in the middle of the field. For the first couple of hours the birds were spooking off as my hide was too obvious to them no matter how small and concealed i tried to make it. It was a clear winters day and the sun was low in front of me so even if the birds had been coming in shooting them would have been tricky. I had nothing better to do so I thought I'd stick it out but decided that if I did get the chance of a few shots I didn't want the sun glaring in my eyes, so I spun my hide round to the other side of the tree Now the sun was behind me and WOW what a difference! Now the sun was working to my advantage and as the pigeon aproached my pattern the sun wa in THIER eyes and soon became clear to me that it was blinding them from seeing my hide. After that I had a great afternoon. Nothing to write home about but I managed to shoot about 15 and was a much more enjioyable afternoon than it was morining. So my advice would be that in the right situation you should look to see if you can use the suns position to your advantage.
  15. Last time I was out I used my rotary and once I had a couple of dead birds on it it turned a quiet day into one with a noticeably more action. I have purchased a pair of Air Pros for it and they turned up the other day. Must say they look pretty good and i'm told they work well too. I guess the proof is in the pudding.
  16. Thanks for the replys guys, they seem quite impressive and yes, I'll maybe see them do there thing soon Jez. Cheers
  17. Hi all, Has anyone got or used these fold up decoys? Watched a few youtube videos and they look bloody good! My only reservation, which no-one seems to question is how do they look from above?? They obviously pivot out from the pigeons back therefore there is no broadness/shape across the back! Be really interested to hear any views on this. Cheers Colin
  18. Hi all, We are at that time again where the crops are well and truly flying down and there is plebty of stubble to get at. If anyone has any pigeon shooting to offer I would be very much abliged. I Can travel around the Kettering, Stamford and Oundle areas, so kind of Northants, Lincs, Cambs borders. I am an experienced and sensible gun but just havent managed to get the guns out as much as I'd like recently so would really love to warm the old barrels again. I look forward to maybe hearing from one or two of you kind gentlemen (or ladies) Thanks Colin
  19. Thanks for the warm welcome. I know Great Addington very well. I went out with a girl from Great Addington and spent a great deal of time there. Very beautiful little village and surrounding country side. I also worked in Wellingborough for 2 years and spend the odd week end carp fishing down the road at Stanwick.
  20. Glad I didn't go then. I used to attend a lot of game fairs and really enjoyed the day out but Burrghley does sound tragic...although only 15 mins down the road from me am pleased I didn't waste my time.
  21. Hello there, I'm Colin from Weldon in Northants. Have noticed there is a bit of a Northants posse on hear so hello fellow shooters;) Not a million miles from Cambs or Leicestershire so be sure to give me a shout as am sure I will be able to hear you if the winds blowing in the right direction. I'm new on hear so just wanted to join in and maybe join up with anyone who may wish to offer me any shooting in and around the area. I used to do a lot of shooting and also ran a small pheasant shoot part time. Not been able to get the guns out for a year or two so if anyone can help me out I'd love to be able to warm the old barrels again. I am an experienced and sensible gun and just haven't had the opportunity to get the deecs out of late. I know its the wrong time of the year for most crops but would appreciate it if you could bare me in mind even if its to shove me at the other end of the field to keep them moving. ( I'd be more than happy with that ) Anyways, look forward to maybe getting a kind greeting from one or two of you. Colin
