Absolutely brilliant pictures GG, how the hell did you manage to get such sharp pictures of the birds, as I would imagine the margin between the out of focus foreground and background was very small?
Normally take one sharp shot of the perch ( this is to stack the images later in Photoshop ) I then manually focus about 200mm behind the perch.
Camera mounted on Gimble head and sturdy tripod. I think it was set up in AV mode F/5.6 ISO 800 x 1600 ( the light was poor ) carn't recall what shutter speeds I was getting but it was not faster enough to freeze the wings. In better lighting conditions I would have opened the F stop to F/7.1 for larger DoF.
A few crushed nuts pushed into the rear of the perch to get the birds in.
Camera remote control used on high speed burst. Then wait and hopefully get lucky.
