  2. Well done Dave, another big one for your wall. It looks like it has great volume and even when died should still be about 600g so I'd say you've got yourself another gold there mate. I've not really got started yet but I'm certainly looking forward to it this year. Cheers, Mark.
  3. Nice one Dave, look like a good symetrical head.
  4. BP, Over the last 10 years the birds in this area have changed their habbits with regards roosting and nesting. We get young pigeons 12 months of the year now, nothing to do with mild weather, we shot young birds straight after 6 weeks of snow last winter! The reason for this is the birds are roosting and now nesting in built up areas, towns and villages, peoples back gardens. They love to nest in Leylandii and thick Holly bushes, we even see them nesting in the corners of straw barns. One farmer phoned me on Christmas eve last year (in the snow) to tell me he had a woodie sitting on eggs in the roof beams of his barn. As for roosting, we used to also have great pine woods for roosting, with massive flightlines. Now the best flightlines come from the towns, safe roosting. And if it's wet they have lots of clover to pick at and don't need to fly anywhere. The Woodpigeon is fast becomeing the Suburbanpigeon!!! Mark.
  5. Fitted to this rifle is a Meopta Artemis 7x50A, good clear optics with no scratches or misting, sold as a package.
  6. I've shot quite a few nice bags over green winter wheat fields, we had a couple of 30+ days a fortnight ago over this. They are NOT eating the wheat seed or chickweed or any other weeds, their eating old TATTIES!!!! It's quite common for wheat to follow on from potatoe crops and they often only disc the soil before sowing, this leaves lots of small tatties on the surface and at this time of the year they are all rotten, allowing the pigeons to pick at and eat this high energy food. Cheers, Mark.
  7. I shot over drilled beans on 23rd Feb in Fife, that's early for us up here!

  18. Don't get me wrong, the vast majority are. But when your dealing with lots of different shooters from all over the world some have got their own ideas of what pigeon shooting should be like, you get all types. I believe the fact that people are paying for it also has an affect. I'm in the situation now that the majority of my clients are repeat guests year after year so they get to know the score, and I get to know them too. Cheers, Mark.
  19. Motty, When dealing with clients I've stopped using birds shot as an indicator of a good day and count the shots fired instead. I get a good few guys in the year that fire 300 shots for 50 or so birds, I know plenty of guys that would shoot 200+ birds for that. I've always said that the aim of my services are not just to provide 100's of shot birds, you simply can't do it. It's nice when big bags happen but if someone fires 100 shots in a day I believe I've done my job. I would rather 4 guys shoot 50 than 1 guy shoot 200. In the past I've had guys phone up to get moved off a field where they could quite easily shoot 50 birds in the day because they are only after 100+, thats not my thing. Cheers, Mark.
  20. Most modern jackets are way too dark for my liking. There are a lot of choices and good makes out there but it has to be light for me. Mark.
  21. Here in Scotland the law is a bit different, there is no 50 foot rule, you can shoot right at the side of a road or footpath. In any case the public can walk where they want in Scotland, not just on footpaths, so you have to be careful even if in the middle of nowhere!! You can be charged with "reckless discharge" and in the case of these two idiots "reckless endangerment". If one of these pigeons had fallen on a passing cars windscreen and cause an accident then these guys would have had the book thrown at them!! Mark.
  22. I shoot very few myself, but it's been a bumper year so far for my clients, over the 95 days of spring/summer that I took bookings this year, it looks like we will hit the 10,000 mark. Cheers, Mark
  23. Sounds like he was direct drilling winter rape, minimum tillage. They do it quite often up here, no need to plough, just disc it and drill it. Cheers, Mark.
