  1. Scotslad i think he puts in about 2 of those small hand held garden trowles into a mixer so not alot. I thought he was mad but it works and its cheap and easily available. He's been doing it for a 4/5 years now and not had a problem.
  2. A friend makes loads with wheat, molasses a bit of anasieed oil and uses cement without any issue. Mixes up a cement mixer load and uses a few scoops of cement then pours the mix into buckets to set.
  3. Collins nets are at Upton Dairy probably them but they have the quill ones for similar money. Did you get them recently or a few years back? I will ask Graham what he can do.
  4. Kes who sells the top hats for £17 ? Quill do them but they are £30 odd.
  5. Untreated water can harbour any number of bacteria and viruses, although it may not be the cause it is a significant risk. If it's not good enough for you to drink then it shouldn't be in the pen.
  6. Have a look on eBay for the trap man he did have some old stock Fox cages on there for £75 deliverd, very good sturdy traps.
  7. They are also a disease risk to your poults.
  8. If it is ok i will post a link to the advert here as it may be more appropriate. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/275793-incubators-and-hatchers/
  9. Due to the imminent arrival of a larger machine I have 2 Western TB7's and 2 Bristol Hatchers. One of the TB7s has a game drum and will take up to 12384 pheasant eggs, 4128 per week. New fan belt 2 years ago all drum clips and good fan blades, full complement of trays and inserts and 30-50 spare trays. The other TB7 has a drum out of a macron machine and will take up to 14416 pheasant eggs approx. 4800 per week. New fan belt this year all and thermometers last year, all of the drum clips present. This machine takes the metal trays that hold up to 212 eggs. The first hatcher is a PH3500, it has all of the water trays and hatching trays. The second hatcher is a PH4000 with the metal hatching baskets, all of the water trays present. The machines have been serviced annually and PAT tested by incubator services and sales ltd with no expense spared. The TB7 with the macron drum is for sale with the PH4000 hatcher @ £1600ono and the other TB7 with the game drum comes with the PH3500 for the same money £1600ono. Will do a deal for all 4 machines. I also have 2 trolleys for the egg trays. Can load onto your transport.
  10. Thick and thin soft ones, they are easier to remove when catching up.
  11. You can use Virkcon S at 1:1000 in the drinking water, there is a guide at the dupont website. http://www2.dupont.com/Virkon_S/en_GB/applications/water_system_disinfection.html
  12. The code of practice for England can be found here: http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2010/07/22/cop-gamebird/
  13. The code of practice does not basically outlaw their use. A well managed raised laying system with enrichment meets and in some areas exceeds the code. Uninriched units will not meet the code. When I started game farming I did not think there was a place in the industry for them, this was based on what I had heard and not seen obviously a naive view. Having visited a few farms that uses them I can see there is a place in the industry. They obviously have there downfalls just like grass pens do but they are anothere way of doing things that should not be shunned by ignorance. A well managed raised system is just as good as a well managed grass system and likewise a poor grass system is just as bad as a poor raised system. It is down to the quality of the man or woman managing that system that makes the differeance.
  14. I would imagen £3.60-£3.95 budget for pellet up around £60t.
  15. I would make sure the gates are big enough to get a crate of birds and a person carring them through or even better gates for people and a bigger gate you can back or drive into. Seen plenty of pens people have spent a lot of time on only to find the gate is to narrow for a crate to go through. Same with general acces to the pen makes life easier with filling feeders, water etc.
  16. If you’re a member of the national gamekeeper’s organisation you can get a discount on a new ranger. I got 7% of a 3.2 limited and a dealer discount. Only downside is the delivery time on 3.2's and Wildtrack, if you’re not too fussy on colour etc 2.2s are much easier to come by. Toyota also do a discount on the Hilux for BASC members.
  17. You can get 7% off from ford on a new ranger if you’re a NGO member, i got a further 10% off from the dealer.
  18. One thing to remember is that gapes is not the only worm that pheasants can get, it would be prudent to worm at the recommended intervals to cover all eventualities.
  19. We have some spaces available in our syndicate for half or full guns. The Shoot is 5 min from the A23/A272 junction and comprises of drives over mixed woodland and ponds. We shoot Saturdays over 8 days and the dates are as follows 20th Oct, 3rd and 17th Nov, 1st, 15th and 29th Dec, 12 and the 26th Jan. 1500 Poults to wood and 150 Mallard. Full gun £2000, Half £1000. There may be days available please contact me for details.
  20. I would take at least 5 live but ill looking poults, stuff can be missed on 2 birds as it is not a big enough sample. Holding off going to a specialist vet is a massive false economy. Birds drink 60% of their water intake within the first few hours of light so ideally birds should be on any medication asap.
  21. I bought a tonne at £180 to keep us going until are normal bloke gets harvesting.
  22. It can be down to a number of things most likely poor temperature or even slippery surface that they hatched out onto.
  23. As I understand it whatever price you agree with a dealer less 12-17% (depending on model) discount from ford.
  24. They are Chinese, small towing capacity probably ok for a cheap pickup. If you can afford the outlay then as pointed out not cheaper in the long run and probably better of with a more mainstream make. There is a cracking offer open to NGO members on the new ranger. It makes these great walls look expensive in comparison.
