1. Still can be a proportion but generally in the past we used to claim routinely £520 for use of home as office as this was the level HMRC were ok with. It's not £3 per hour it's £3 per week that HMRC will accept as a use of home as office cost without checks etc. I'm not saying it's not ok if you're careful, the £3 rate is accepted as allowable with no issues by HMRC as this is the amount employees can be paid without any detailed calculations being needed. However if your actual property expenses are more you may be able to claim extra. The days of a £10 flat rate for using home as office have gone and I think now you can get away with about £3 per week from HMRC. Apportioning bills etc. is not a good idea if you're looking at selling the property at some stage due to capital gains tax implications. The fact that an accountant is chartered, certified etc means that they have gone through professional training and have to keep up with latest developments as part of their continuing professional development and also have to follow institute rules, have professional indemnity insurance etc etc. There is a world of difference between an aco****ant and a bookkeeper and it depends what service you require. Discouraging the wealthy from living and working in Brittain isn't a good idea either. Why should you pay proportionally more just because you are doing well, you're already paying 40% of your earnings so the total goes up as you earn more. I don't earn anywhere near that amount but I don't think it's a good idea. Closing loopholes that are exploited is a better plan.

The glass is included in the £300, fitting say £100-£150 (which isn't a bad hourly rate for 2 hours work) = £400-£450.

Tried an online estimator for the windows which came up with a price of £250 plus vat to make the window (assume trade would get a discount). I reckon it can't be more than a few hours work to remove the old uPVC window and install the new one so £400 seems about right. Thanks

Can you position the feeders higher up so the cats can't get at the birds? Failing that I'm sure a bucket of cold water everytime they appear in your garden might dissuade them from coming onto your property?

Hi all Just trying to get an idea of a price for a uPVC bathroom window supplied and fitted. My previous experience of window companies was that they start very high on the off chance you accept and then if you come up with a quote you've already had then they suddenly are able to ring their manager and give you a special deal because they can put a sign outside your house and foot fall blah blah blah but you have to accept the offer there and then. Would like to have a rough idea before we start haggling. It's only 1 window, in 3 sections so that ends would have an opening windows and middle is fixed, it's roughly 235cm x 73cm with frosted glass in white uPVC. Any ideas would be gratefully received. If you're fully comp insured then it's free to glue small cracks or about £90 for a new windscreen which does affect your policy. Even if you are not I think the glueing is fairly cheap to do, call Gavin at Autoglass or sometimes have them in supermarket car parks.

Yep I use it quite a lot. I buy a few things through Groupon which is cheap in itself but you can log onto Quidco and get an additional 5% cashback by accessing the Groupon site through it. I also had my debit card registered which got me some cashback just for shopping as normal in B&Q Debenhams etc. Not sure if B&Q still gives in store cashback on your caard but you can still get 4% cashback shopping online, you just have to go through Quidco website. It's always worth checking if there are any cashback or deals if you're about to buy something of a reasonable size/amount. I'm just about to buy a bathroom suite through B&Q and I will probably do online and get an extra £60 in my pocket.

I certainly don't want to live once I get past an age where I'm dribbling and c******* myself and everything hurts all the time. What's the point living in that sort of state? I would like to be able to make a decision then have time to get all my affairs in order, gather family and friends and drift peacefully off rather than waiting for organs to fail or the hospital to withdraw the food and water. Of course I might change my mind if I make it to that age but I'd at least like the choice and possibly have a living will if I lose my mental capacity.

It's still called a bonus at Lloyds albeit a small one (I'm a contractor so don't get one anyway)

While you read in the press that Lloyds have a £375m bonus pot please consider that most bonuses are around £2k or less. Not all bankers get massive bonuses however it's what the media would like you to believe because it sells papers. There are 2 types of bankers, high street and investment and they get very different bonuses.

Could they move the older folks to desk jobs as they near retirement? I'm sure there are plenty of things people could do in their final 5 years before drawing their very generous final salary pension.

I don't get bonuses and have to pay into my own miserable pension pot whose outcome is dependent on the world economy, I don't have option to strike. Accept that public sector has had a pay freeze for 3 years but I had to accept a 10% cut last year, so not feeling an awful lot of sympathy for public sector
