  1. Dam it ! I must make one last post before bed fenboy , the most respected wildfowler & birdie member on PW told me the other day that he has to use a pogo due to the obvious problems of having to use steel shot & the amount of recoil it gives & I do understand this . Sit tight & with luck a PW member may just tell you some interesting things about using non toxic in older guns including steel & muzzle loaders , but for God sake don't mention pogo sticks & start crowing about what great things they are because he will just loose the rag ! . Sweet dreams
  2. Fenboy I never tar everyone with the same brush not even pogo stick users & not even persons from the boot shaped country , in fact I use to have have a 5 shot Franchi Hunter years ago but that thank heavens I saw the light & sold it to a coffee grower in El Salvador in the seventies , lots you don't know about me either . Have to go now fenboy but please note despite the hate mail I get on PW from some I have a sense of humor ATB Pole Star
  3. Same here fenboy but I would not want you & your pogo stick here anyway because we have enough problems with the goons & people from the boot shaped country who need that third shot & more to make up for their lack of marksmanship ! , & I don't need a little drain as I have my own farm & loch frontage to a loch so why would I bother with a drain & a pogo stick . Why would you want to come too Orkney well sadly its become the number one place for the numbers boys to come & bring decent goose shooters into disrepute & get Orkney in the news & show us all ( including you ) in a bad light ! perhaps these types don't visit your little drain & in which case I envy you & consider you very lucky . Anyway drink your coco & take your sleeping pills & toodle off to bed & don't forget Teddy & some time tomorrow I will post up some pics of what gentleman use too shoot geese with & if you would like to come to Orkney give me a call sonny & I will sort it for you . Take care Pole Star ps must rush as have too be up at 5am to check the wind so we can have a good morning on the geese pps if you ever make it up here my friend you will not need to bring your pogo stick because I will lend you a gun like the old wildfowling greats use to use
  4. You should see the amount of entertaining hate mail I get .
  5. Funny thing my dear chap I did notice you were checking my profile some time ago ! , I like you fenboy because you never cease to entertain me & like a hungry pike you swallowed the bait . You need too get out more & perhaps try a trip to Orkney ? so sleep tight tonight & don't let the your bed bugs bite . ps lots of geese here & lots more than you will find in your tiny fenland drain & you don't what you are missing sweet dreams . ATB Pole Star
  6. ? Punt gunners are a secret society ! Like the Masons
  7. Well if this chap is up here & out & about Chad63 he might just be located ? Apologies for cock up in double posting by" the police " on page one but have had too many early mornings & late nights on the Port fowling is hard work !
  8. Hello Terry things ok & will PM you ATB Carl
  9. If only anything was easy ! but that is the first time I have ever heard of an armed response unit being called out to a couple of punt gunners & it was nice to hear the police took great interest in the punt gun . Anyway when was the last time you saw south London druggies & bank robbers ect bothering to go punt gunning ? I wonder what that visit cost the tax payer
  10. A friend up from England just told me of an incident they had a while ago while out punt gunning when they came back into the shore & they were met by the by the police because a member of the public had heard a very loud bang , saw lots of smoke & had thought a bomb had gone off . After having a friendly chat with the law another squad car then arrived with the armed response boys but I understand that this meeting was also a friendly one & the police were completely fascinated with the punt gun God love em , but alas it seems even punt gunners are not immune from a visit these days , what is the World coming too ! . Location has to remain a secret though , must have a go myself one day . sorry to disappoint you Fenboy but these chaps were not Italian & don't use pogo sticks
  11. Well I think the registration & licensing of commercial goose guides would be the best start ? Anyone agree ? .
  12. I agree with some of your points fenboy but please note this was my first comment regarding this video & the first time I have posted for over a week now & as for those who blight the very thing we love perhaps you could be so kind enough to suggest how we might bring our own house into order ? , that would be a good start ! .
  13. See what I mean CW ! strange thing is I did not mention the things you claim Fenboy this is a public forum & it is read by all & every one, the Italians the police the RSPB & not to mention the antis & the numbers boys that will bring us all down . So why another attack on me ? you must surely agree with me that those who bring us into disrepute need to be converted ?? . Yes I am all for bag limits but only with guarantees from the government & the RSPB that it will not be the thin edge of the wedge , whats more it is high time all goose guides were licensed & submitted bag returns . Have a nice day mate . Pole Star ps no offence
  14. Welcome to pigeon watch CW but be prepared for the long & lonely road of exposing wrong doers & wildlife criminals on this forum & not too mention the insults & ridicule you are likely to get from small core of persons on here but do keep up the good work because too many just bury their heads in the sand & pretend every thing is all "" Hunky Dory ! "". You are not preaching to the converted so ignore those comments , there are those in the background who read this forum & say little or nothing & a lot of them are what I can only refer to as the " small w...y numbers boys who are never never never satisfied & always want more simply to boost their pathetic egos . Some of the things that have happened here where I live are down right disgusting & these are the very things which will in the end undermine us & bring us all down , but be warned & as said its a long & lonely road being a wildfowling & wildlife guardian & a conservationist on pigeon watch . Will PM you .
  15. Karpman if you can get to Tring museum & get a pic of that albino woodcock have a close look through the museum & some where in there is a thing I heard of years ago in the Shooting Times which was called a Chickant ? which is Pheasant X Chicken cross , its like an odd Cock Pheasant looking bird with some Chicken characteristics , it really is most odd . ATB Pole Star ps I want to go again but its a hell of a long way from Orkney
  16. Different law here Figgy its called Udel law which is law in Orkney & Shetland , strange but thats the way it is so I understand . No locals shoot foreshore here unless its Ok with the land owner , chance it if want to risk it . Only a few moments ago I saw a crewcab drive all the way down the lane to some ones land next to mine & then reversed all the way out & then reversed all the way down my lane while 4 chapsin kamo were in & out surveying the land . I called the 3 farmers who own land there & it seems they have not been contacted by anyone so tomorrow morning will be interesting as 2 of the farmers are also shooting farmers & the reply I got was " well their not shooting on my ground " . .
  17. Article in the Orcadian news paper 24 Oct page 5 headed Wilfowl shooting advice , Orkney islands council has issued a reminder that wildfowlers need permission from the landowners before shooting geese & ducks . This has followed queries from the public asking if access legislation allows people to shoot on land owned by the council or in private ownership in Orkney ect . At last the penny is has dropped !!! . Remember its a long expensive trip to make to finish up getting arrested & loosing your ticket . No news on the other case yet but it maybe in todays paper ? . 18. Some nice mounted Pike & Carp ect let me how you like the Museum . Good luck ATB ps I was so busy taking it all in I forgot to take some photos Karpman especially of that snow white Woodcock so I hope you can make up for my failings & get some pics to post on here because I know a lot of you will be interested
  19. Last week I got a chance to have a trip to the Tring Museum in Hertfordshire which was the first time I had been there since 1960s as boy when my Mother took me & wow what a collection , if you do not know about this museum & are interested in Natural History & wild life around the world as opposed to some of the mere trigger puller numbers boys then the Tring Museum is a must & is well worth a special trip . Its free to get in but this is no back garden shed collection which was originally started by Sir Walter Rosthschild & is run as part of the London Natural History Museum . The reason I have posted this here is because there is a most magnificent albino Woodcock in the collection along with an albino Swift alongside other part & full albino specimens as well as many other birds, mammals , big game & wildfowl ect ect & to take it all in you will need a full day . We found plenty of car parking space there but the cafe was a let down & seems only to be open weekends & bank holidays so out side of those times its a vending machine job !. Do pay it a visit if its your thing & take the kids along as they will love the education & so will you , its fascinating . ATB Pole Star
  20. I think he will get a knock on the door tomorrow morning !
  21. Oh if only we could have those innocent days back Gunnerbob ? I brought my first 12bore from the kid 3 doors down from from me in the Village , I gave him £2 for it & it was an old Belgium side lock with no stock no trigger guard & 2 broken firing pins , I must have been no more than 14 years old & I took it to school to make a new stock for it in woodwork & got an old trigger guard for it that a mate found in the ashes of a bonfire . Myself & a mate soon filed some new firing pins up from from 2 self tapping wood screws & home proofed it by tying it to a tree stump one evening & tying a long string to the trigger , after that we were in business & no bunny & pigeon was safe anymore , all innocent boys fun ! . My next gun was a Bakil single 12bore my younger brother told me about so I gave my 13year old brother the money for it to get & when he went to get it the young chaps mother said to my brother "" has he got a license for it ? my brother said yeh he's got a licence for it ! , & the deal was done or as Tommy Cooper would say " just like that " & the last I heard of that lad who sold me that gun he became a police man whose job perhaps is of national or even international importance , so don't ask ! . What has gone wrong with the World since , a mate of mine even had a rusty old WW2 Sten gun & he use to climb a tree that over looked the road from the garden wall & innocently ambush any passers by just like little boys do . But one day I think he must have ambushed an old soldier because not long after the police called to his house & gave his dad a good ******* & took it away ! . Did we do anything wrong we were country boys & thats the way it was when I was a boy , all innocent & no one ever hurt , yes times have changed unfortunately ATB Pole Star . ps so so long ago now not even 30 years after WW2 it makes one feel old pps oops this is of the topic , sorry Dekers
  22. If you are shooting rabbits & the like for the pot stick to subsonics , if you use HV s when you go into the next field the rabbits will have all bolted , I told a couple of young newbie lads that only a few weeks ago & they still cant work out why theirs makes a noise & all the rabbits clear off even though they have a moderator fitted . I chuckle when they keep saying to me "" How come yours don't make any noise ? "" I replied well I told you they crack when they go through the sound barrier but you just don't listen ! , use the Australian made Winchester hollow point subsonics with a moderator fitted & use a bolt action , this perfect for rabbit control . . And I don't care if anyone differs ! . ATB Pole Star ps I use Brono bolt action fitted with a moderator & its just silent death to rabbits & even with hollow points there is plenty of meat left to eat instead of being blown all over the place !
