Bakerboy - Seen a few good fields of birds on the Cottered/Baldock road so they are about in the numbers you've snapped… just not on any of the permissions I have! That said its dead as a dodo on the farm up the road from me, best day out so far is 6! Hopefully getting out next weekend so can see whats up. I've run an S200 in .22 with 10 shot conversion for 6 years and having tried a good few of my friends rifles I wouldn't change it for the world. Light, accurate and very, very reliable. The addition of the gauge would be nice but as mentioned above, I just count the shots.

Had a similar thing about a few weeks ago shooting over a rape field. Shot the pigeon and then set it up as a decoy, after 2 hours shooting I packed up and on picking up the pigeon noticed that its skull was exposed. It seemed too precise for any shot or a result of it falling out of the sky, really puzzled me. Having read this thread there are a lot of stoats in that area but I'm pretty sure I would have noticed movement within the decoys.

I take a small magnet on a string with me. Any spent carts I can't find, dangle the magnet over the area and it picks them up. Not an ideal solution as it doesn't stop carts flying all over the place but I've yet to lose one.
